FF Starting Lineups (1 Viewer)

Everyday people are posting questions. They give their league rules, to include the starting lineup limitations, and it's the same thing with every league.

QB/2RB/3WR/TE/K/D

Why on earth would you only have one possible starting lineup option?!?

In my league, we have 4 starting lineup's to choose from.

QB/3RB/2WR/K/DST

QB/2RB/3WR/K/DST

QB/1RB/4WR/K/DST

QB/5WR/K/DST

TE is not a mandatory position, they are considered WR.

We have tweaked our scoring system over the past 10 years to make all positional scoring comparable to each other.

Having 4 starting lineup's allows team owners the freedom to go to the draft with a multitude of strategies, and then REALLY play coach on game days. When there is only one starting lineup for the whole league,

the drafting strategies will mirror each other. Open things up people. I guarantee once you do it, you won't go back.

I'm in one start no RB start up to 5 WR league too but it is a TE required league. We have punters too. :lmao:

Total Starters: 20

Number of Starting RBs: 0-3

Number of Starting WRs: 0-5

Number of Starting TEs: 1-3

Number of Starting PKs: 1

Number of Starting PNs: 1

Number of Starting DTs: 1-3

Number of Starting DEs: 2

Number of Starting LBs: 1-4

Number of Starting CBs: 2-3

Number of Starting Ss: 1-3

People like different things. Some people like blondes, some like red heads, others like brunettes. You have some that just don't care and like them all without a real preference.Same holds true in fantasy football. You'll have guys like myself who will get into just about anything as long as it's some fantasy football action. However, some people like to play what's familiar to them, and if that's what they enjoy during football season, that's what they're going to play.BTW, I like TE as a mandatory position.

If you do this why even play FF ? Freedom in the draft - more like zero knowledge required in your draft.

 Having a larger (or smaller) number of "starters" at a given position sets positional scarcity/abundancy, which sets value. Often times these positional limits reflect the positional scarcity in the NFL. For example, in terms of FF relevance there are a limited number of viable QB options (generally just the starter is FF viable on each NFL team) - hence 1 QB, as you often have to cover bye weeks, injury, etc. Many team imploy RBBC, therefore there are more viable FF RBs. Most teams have at least 2 WRs that are viable from a FF standpoint (some 3 - like the Colts or Saints for instance), therefore, as there are more WRs available, there are more slot for them. In a draft in which all starting slots are deemingly "flex" spots (save for 1 QB,K & DST) - you artificially change value based on scarcity/abundancy. Keeping the lineup closer to a "set" system assures that all owners are on a more level field. I am not opposed to flex positions - as they do help teams be creative in their drafting strategies - but to reduce all skill positions to "flex" is to weaken the type of skill needed at the draft. You no longer need to look at a lineup - simply always select "best skill player available".I also think that many owners in such a system will seek to mathmatically determine what is the "optimal" lineup (i.e. given the scoring system) - then draft to that optimum lineup. NTTAWWT - heck, that's what everyone is attempting to do in a sense - but once the optimum lineup for the specific scoring system is discovered, why not just make that the set lineup requirement? In effect that is exactly what happens. Many like the standard 1/2/3/1/1/1 lineup, because it is balanced and balanced to the positional scarcity of the NFL, thus keeping owners on a level playing field and positional scoring fairly balanced.
