The first time I played this game was about 9-10 years ago and had no idea what the damages could be so I joined the $1 draft. Luckily "won" but got butt- ####ed by Linus Scrimmage and didn't get paid.

I didn't have butler that high but your first three were in my top 15. Had Wichita state third and vcu like ninth. Iowa state in the early teens. 

As for the point of winning money, you're not wrong, but it's akin to playing dollar slots versus ten dollar pai gow. I prefer the latter approach to this b/c, mainly, if I lose too much I just don't want to have to explain to my wife why I owe like 200 dollars to phantom people on the Internet. So I'll play a bit more conservative, push a bunch, and hopefully get buzzed on the free drinks.

I don't want to lose 200 either, but my wife hasn't looked at our checking account in 4 years. I could be heading to Mexico and she would have no idea.

Wichita was an easy #1 for me. Baffling that they went in round 2 in the other league. Considered Kentucky for a minute as well.
