Film Study Of Terrelle Pryor's First Start (1 Viewer)

The thing is really long and the link is here. I just want to talk in general about how he did. First off, his chemistry with Denarious Moore was way off. If he earns the starting job, I think that Moore's long term potential talks a hit. He did, however, target Rod Streater heavily. Something to keep an eye on. In general, he wasn't great. He frequently put far too much touch on his passes and threw the ball into traffic. There were 2 occasions where he missed a guy who had a solid chance of scoring. However, he did throw an absolute gem of a touchdown to Moore in the 4th and a great bucket throw to Streater to set it up. I came away and impressed and plan on finding him on several of my rosters. What say you?

The question with him is roster space. I'd love to keep him but would have to drop a Tanne, Rivers, Schaub backup type to make that happen. Debating it.
You gotta let go of the backup type for the high upside play. That's what I drew from his performance.

If you're lucky, you can get a Colin Kaepernick type player, someone with great raw skills that needs to be coached up to NFL standards.. In the little bit of the game I watched, he definitely showed some potential, but looked well behind NFL readiness. To me, it's more about what OAK does in the offseason relative to assistant coaches as well as Palmer's status. Cutting Palmer would be about a net $5mil in cap savings (13 mil salary less 8 mil in guaranteed + pro-rated signing bonus), which is not really that much if you're talking about a starting QB. If OAK decides that they want to move on though, Pryor is in an intersting position especially if OAK can get someone at OC or position coach who can really help.

Like others said, it's about depth. Iin one of my dynasty leagues, our rosters expand to 30 players after the NFL draft, so I'll grab him then to see what happens.

I think the only take-aways from his only start are:

1. He showed good presence. He didn't seemed overwhelmed by the situation.

2. He missed a lot of passes to open receivers – either throwing the ball short or floating it.

I think the jury is still out on whether he can improve on that performance. Getting a hiring solid OC and QB coaches will help. Getting more reps with the first team and developing chemistry will also help. He is a good athlete so it will allow him to over come his short comings to some degree.

Great thread. I'm not sold on Pryor at all and think he'll probably fail, but this gives me a slight amount of pause... good stuff, thx.

It's the blackdot envelope thingy that will let you find the post easily far into the future since you have posted at least once in the thread. AKA Black Freakin Dot when it's a good one.
Ahhh, got it. You liked the post then?
:blackdot: is to mark the thread so I can come back and read it later. I haven't had a chance to go to the link yet.

Do we really think the Raiders just dump Palmer an give the reins to Pryor?

(I have a hard time believing this)

His focus on Streater and timing problems with Moore could have a lot to do with reps in practice more than anything. Moore ran all year with the first team when healthy and I am guessing Streater has been Pryor's go to WR on the 2nd and 3rd teams since training camp.

There is probably some truth to that. It just seemed that Pryor was consistently on the same page with Streater, possibly making him an intriguing option next year.

If they decide to really rebuild, Palmer has to go to the bench.
We'll have to wait and see, but I see Palmer as the starting QB for Oakland next year at least.
My thinking is more along the lines of, if they start out 0-6 or 1-5, what do they have to gain by starting Palmer?

Interesting Piece

I particularly like what I saw from him as far as the energy he seemed to bring and his leadership role that he took like throwing Mike Goodsen out of the way after the "fight." Yeah he is raw but he seems to be somebody that maybe "gets it"... As a PSU fan (yeah i know i know) its hard to praise that little punk but people mature... they move on

Im not saying Pryor is going to develop into an elite player... maybe not even a good player... but IF he develops then his ceiling in FANTASY FOOTBALL is ridiculously high and his cost is most likely very low at this point to add as a flier to your dynasty rosters.

I agree that his best chance to start will come with a mediocre or slow start to the season next yr for the Raiders.

edited to add that I was impressed with his response to the question as to whether he should start next yr. I like it when young players show respect and even though we all know he WANTS to play and he is confident in his abilities he also seems to feel that Carson is there for him and he respects Carson for who he is as a man and NOT just a football player that happens to play the same position. I found it refreshing.

Really good points about his attitude. Think some maturity could go a long way in regards to his development and learning the pro game.
