Final Fantasy XV (1 Viewer)

This is set to be released tomorrow after over a decade in development. I was a huge fan of the Final Fantasy games up til about FFX and then I just lost interest because the games dropped off in quality and style.

Haven't seen any real reviews drop on this yet so hopefully some will hit today and will get a sense if this is a bomb or not.

Either way I am probably going to get it and hope it lives up to atleast some of the hype.

Wasn't even aware this was a thing. I've been fixated on the FF7 remake since it was announced. What's the scoop here? Why is it so hyped? Just the name, or is there a new shtick? It's not MMO, is it? I hated when FF went MMO.

Not MMO. Supposed to be more in line with the traditional FF but has a new battle system. Not the traditional turn-based anymore, more like a dynamic one with aspects of the traditional. It seems similar to the Dragon Age Inquisition fighting system just from the looks of it in trailers. New storyline and everything, seems to be more of a present day timeline with car technology, cities etc.

The E3 trailer from earlier in the year... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otVk3EEjgd8

i haven't played one since FF XII, which was pretty good..   I didn't love X..     IV (2 on SNES),  VI (3 on SNES), 7, 8, and 9 are 5 of my favorite games of all time...  Chrono Trigger which Square produced was up there was well.

I have enjoyed a few of final fantasy's tablet games as I don't do console gaming anymore

Check out Conan O'Brian's gamer review on it.  You can find it on the YouTube.
This is pretty funny.

It does seem like they went too far into Androgynous Anime with Magic, but like most here I loved the earlier games and eventually lost interest when they went online and I simply had a large gap of time where I stopped playing games altogether. I'll check out reviews and everyone's comments here.

Was intrigued a bit. Then watched the Conan bit and wonder what in the #### happened to this series.

:blackdot:

Have played most of them including the most recent XIII series which I didn't mind.

Not sure about the new battle system. Really like the turn based strategy instead of relying on the speed of button mashing... If that is how it is now.

I did mess around with the tablet version of what was IV. Thought they did a really good job with it.

Mentioned it a while back in the video game thread, but I'm hyped. I actually loved FFXII, but that was a decade ago (oof). FFXIII was just okay and they just kept tacking more stuff on top of it for years on end, and I didn't get into the online ones. XV is the first FF in a long time that looks genuinely cool to me.

For people that like the good old fashioned turn based JRPG's check out final fantasy dimensions on the google play store..  fun game, decent enough story.

I also just downloaded and am getting started with Final Fantasy Brave Exidus, also pretty old school cool

I was lukewarm about the idea of a new FF, and then I watched the Conan video, and now I DESPERATELY WANT TO PLAY IT. I guess Conan and I have different tastes.

Agreed. I prefer turn-based battles, which is what worries me about this new game. The pinnacle of that for me was FFX where they'd show you the order of upcoming turns, so you could intelligently use your Hastega and Delay Buster abilities.  FFX is a very close second for me after FFVII, and I'm among the minority of people who really liked FFX-2 as well.

I see it's free.  :hifive:
I'd be interested in more of your thoughts as you progress. Can I play this offline if I don't plan on in-app purchases?

Yeah, I would almost rather pay instead of it be free and then probably have you pay for "upgraded" equipment and stuff for your warriors.

We'll see how this goes.

I forgot I preordered this about 9 months ago.  Shipped last night.  I might have a chance to play sometime in December.  Maybe.

Been playing after work the past few nights and have maybe 10 hours into the game so far. I really enjoy it. Graphics look great, a bit of a brotastic storyline but it grows on you. I'm just really now beginning to move into the actual storyline instead of small little quests and stuff at the beginning of the game. Still learning more about the combat system, though I really like the use of warp strikes. I haven't got really into the magic system in the game since I'm having too much fun with the physical combat. The system itself is a hybrid similar to like Dragon Age or Skyrim but with the option to have a wait mode which skews it a little more to traditional wait and see combat while still being have a real time element.

The skill tree is fun but also stresses me out about wasting points on a useless skill etc but combat itself doesn't seem to hard yet and have no issues with any enemies so far.

So I went to look into maybe picking this up earlier today only to find out it's not on PC. I mean, I have a PS4 sitting right here neside me, but I was really trying to migrate all my gaming over to PC. Now I'm flummoxed.
