Finishing basement - looking for tips/suggestions (pre-drywall) (1 Viewer)

So we are in the process of finishing the basement. It's roughly 1200 SF, with a walkout. We have the studs up, electrical & plumbing are done. Insulation & dry-wall are scheduled this week. We are adding a large bedroom (for my dad to move into part time), another guest bedroom, a bathroom, a family room, a home office, a gym room, and unfinished storage/ workshop/brewery with a utility sink.

This is my one chance to wire a space pre-drywall. I'm adding cat-5e to the office, coax, and speaker wire for in-wall 5.1 surround speakers.

Is there anything else I should be thinking about? I'm thinking about running a lot of conduit for future-proofing, but I'm probably over-thinking things.

I ran an HDMI cable in my ceiling to where I plan to install a ceiling hung projector.

I added additional power outlets and switches where I knew I'd have electrical items in odd areas (e.g. power/coax near ceiling level for the TV in my gym). For the guest bedroom I wanted to add some wall mounted lights with a dedicated switch near where the bed would go - think reading lights that can be turned off without getting out of bed.

Also, have you added wood blocking in areas around where you'll mount the speakers? May or may not be a good idea, but the wood blocking would give you some flexibility on where to mount things (e.g. TV mounts, speaker mounts, etc). Drywall anchors have gotten better over the years, but when they pop loose it's annoying as can be.

Basically if you plan to hang anything with some weight or odd shape that would make hitting studs difficult, you can plan for wood blocking now.

It's not for everyone, but we left our ceiling exposed and painted it a very dark brown (sherwin williams doesn't sell a black). The look is awesome and we get compliments from everyone who sees it the first time. Plus, you have access to all the "guts" of the house.

Sound insulation? Between basement and main floor, maybe around Dad's room? Great for limiting sound, nice for sound going up from family room and gym room, etc and down/in to guest's rooms.
