I had my first draft yesterday. 1st year 8 team H2H league that will be expanding to 10 or 12 next year. I drafted 7th. We can keep 5 (possible 6th keeper with most points, best win % or overall championship) so I went young in some areas

Start - 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF, C, 2 Util, 7 pitchers (no starter/reliever requirement).

C - Soto (8)

1B - Berkman (4), Konerko (25)

2B - Kinsler (3)

SS - Tulowitzki (9)

3B - G Atkins (13), Kouzmanoff (21)

OF - Braun (1), Sizemore (2), McLouth (7), C Hart (11), Ellsbury (14), J Dye (20), M Cameron (22), M Bradley (23)

SP - C Lee (10), J Vazquez (12), J Lackey (15), M Cain (16), J Danks (17), M Garza (18), S Baker (24)

RP - KRod (5), Papelbon (6), Marmol (18)

I know my pitching is weak. I waited way too long to get any good starters. I think I've got pretty good power hitting however. How bad did this rookie do?

great keepers. braun, sizemore, ellsbury, kinsler.....maybe mclouthi wouldnt worry too much about pitching in an 8teamers. work the wire. plenty of gems to be had im sure.

I don't like spending two early picks on closers. In an small league, you should be able to chase SVs. You missed out on some pretty good bats taking the closers back-to-back.I think for an 8-teamer, you should probably stick to AL or NL only but your mileage may vary.

Thanks. I figured I'd try to build a solid core to compete the next few years after we expand. We had 3 guys interested that weren't able to get in this year for whatever reason.

Thanks as well. I should have clarified that we get 10 for a save. I talked to my boss who is a long time player and he said to load up on closers if we're getting 10/save. Once I got those 2 I sort of abandoned that. But thanks for the input. Its my first go at this since like 1995 when I last played so I'll take the constructive criticism where I can get it.We talked about going NL or AL only based on our league size but in the end figured it would be best to go both as we will be expanding. This is basically the trial year and we'll modify going forward.
