An awful lot of coaches got their start as interns. It's fairly common.

The problem in the NFL is that basically all coaches actually played the game at some point. Since women don't play, that would be a huge barrier to entry, IMO.

I wouldn't exactly call that "playing", but at least she didn't fumble.
