Fitbit? (2 Viewers)

It does a very poor job of picking up stairs I have walked. Between home and work I have easily done 30 and it has recorded 3
It tracks number of stories, not stairs. They assume that a story is 10 feet, so for every 10 feet you climb, it records one story. So in your case, 30 stairs as 3 stories is probably pretty close.I used the fitbit while hiking up a (small) mountain recently. When I got to the top it said I had climbed 75 floors. The elevation at the top was 761 feet. I was impressed.
Fitbit uses a barometric pressure sensor on it, or something to that effect.

I always think the driving steps get cancelled out with other steps it misses. If you wear it on your wrist it's gonna pick up some bad steps. Accuracy of the belt ones is better.

Up3 now shows another 12 weeks out for me
Pretty much this.

If you want to be sure, take it off while driving.

I take it off while playing piano or washing dishes because it goes bonkers. You'll learn quickly when it needs to be removed.

Even if it's over-logging/under logging, you'll know when you've hit 10,000 steps because it's not all that easy to do.

well this makes a lot more sense. Thanks

This is where I think the Up3 will be so useful. Utilizing the same type of multiple sensors as the BodyBugg it should easily be able to tell the difference in caloric burn between activities. For example, my BodyBugg can pick up if say I'm cook for two hours and give me a slightly higher caloric burn for that time period (around 100 extra calories per hour).

I just got one of these for free through work... it looks like there is some way for me to turn steps into Amazon gift cards. I like free stuff, so I will give it a try.

Playing piano counts as steps huh? That's a good tip... any other ways to game the system?

Im new to the fitbit universe

How accurate is this thing supposed to be?

I woke up and it said I had 86 steps. Then it increased 30 steps on my drive to work (no jerking off)

It does a very poor job of picking up stairs I have walked. Between home and work I have easily done 30 and it has recorded 3

I just dont want to think I hit 10,000 steps and really only did 5,000
I get about 100 extra steps each way on my drive with the FitBit Surge. For comparison the Peak I got about 25-30.

anyone have a zip they don't use and want to sell me the clip case cheap? bottom of mine broke and the ####er is rubbing me raw but I don't want to pony up 30 bucks

Tie it to your dog's collar

Work will reimburse me 100% if I purchase one of these through our wellness plan. Can't decide on either the FB Charge or the Up24. I kinda like seeing the progress readout on the Charge, but the Up24 looks like it would be more comfortable. Any accuracy issues with either of these for those that have them?

Shoot, I just ordered one. When I sized it, I didnt see all that info. I printed out the testing strip and it read large for me.

Maybe ill be able to return it to the store when it comes in. My wife says she does that sometimes.
What's weird is, if hanging loosely on my wrist, it feels finethen during the set up process it tells you to wear it 1 finger length UP away from your wristbone and 2-3 finger lengths when you're excercising to get an accurate reading.

It might feel ok when you first put it on, but once you see the set up instructions, that's when it gets tight.

Let me know how this goes for you please. Mine is so off that I feel like I got a defective model
I just picked up a large version and i agree with you that its pretty small. Im using the 3rd to last notch which is basically the last one if you are going to use the sliding notched piece. It's ok dangling at the bottom of my wrist and pretty snug 1 finger with. 2-3 finger widths is pretty tight but i guess that's what they want. I'm also not used to wearing a watch as i havent for years so this will take some getting used to. Didn't really like wearing one when younger so abandoned it as they were obsolete anyways when i started carrying a cell phone. I imagine i'll tak this off quite a bit at work sitting at my desk anyways not that that should really matter as the only thing im missing is heart beat at rest right?

Unless you swim and money is no object then the Up32 is the best one
Did you get one of these? Was looking to order yesterday and their website says it is backordered 6-7 weeks.

My primary interest is an accurate HRM that doesn't require a chest strap. My understanding is that Up3 has the best technology for this. Is this correct?

ETA: Also, Is it possible to get real-time HR feedback from the Up3? I'd like to know during a strenuous run whether I was pushing too hard, or not hard enough. If so, I imagine it would require I also carry my phone with me?

I do not think you will get real time feedback with the Up, perhaps even with the phone. Not entirely sure but there is no display on the jawbone itself

I got a charge HR for my birthday yesterday. so far, so good. I'm a little disappointed it won't export HR data to runkeeper, I'd love to see heart rate data after my runs as well as heart rate audio cues.

Got a nice rash from the Charge HR

REally just a red spot on my wrist from wearing it so much this month I think. Nothing itchy or raised (at least not on my wrist)

This happened to me too. By trial and error, I found out that the rash came from sleeping with it on. I tend to sleep with my arms underneath my head/pillow and must have generated too much heat. Now I don't wear it to bed which kills the sleep monitoring function.

Good to know - I wear it to sleep every night.

Thank you!

I stopped wearing mine after a few days because of numbness in my wrist and fingers. Always have had some finger issues. Doc years ago said probably a nerve in elbow area. I then realized i probably messed up the elbow last weekend swinging a bat as have had some pain and numbness in my elbow and lower arm this week. Seems to be getting better but i can't wear a watch if its going to bring on annoying wrist and finger numbness. Debating on returning.

Maybe you can get the belt clip version for it?

True. At that point an app on your phone probably is just as good though right?

What about for us swimmers? Any recommendations?
Bump. Anybody use one of these swimming?
I've been looking. There's a few that are being pitched as good, but it depends on what you want it to do.

Common functionality is lap counters, time.

next level is on-thefly SWOLF, heartrate tracking (which is easy on land but becomes more complicated underwater), and GPS for distance and for open swimming.

The Garmin VivoActive is the newest one to claim to do all of the above. Reviews are kind of spotty with it, though.

The Garmin 920xt is ugly as a pile of #### thats been eaten and vomitted, and totally sucks ### as a real watch, but is supposed to handle triathlon tracking really well. It's expensive. $400-$500 when I last looked. That's more than I want to spend. the -1 model of this is the xt910, which I should have some lap time with in the next week or two (A coworker has one he is going to let me try.)

There's another company called Swimovate ( http://www.swimovateusa.com) and they have some new items that are supposed to offer all of the features I mention above, but there are some bad reviews for this as well. The original piece they had with just basic features is supposedly good , and $95. I'm considering this one. http://swimovateusa.com/products/swimovate-poolmate-watch Keep in mind that any of the swim ovate products will not work for step tracking or cycling (basically it's worthless out of the pool.)

http://www.dcrainmaker.com

This site may have already been mentioned, but if it hasn't anyone who is interested in fitness tech should be reading.

Here's his review of the garmin vivoactive in the pool:

http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/04/garmin-vivoactive-in-depth-review.html#swimming

A couple others I've been looking at:

The Garmin Swim Watch (only swimming, no steps/no cycling). $150. Probably has more features than I care about.

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Swim-Watch-Connect/dp/B008EFU5T4

More coming later. need to head home.

I ordered the UP3, but I'm getting nervous about some poor reviews I've been seeing. I really only care about accurate calorie counting (using the multi-sensor approach Jawbone purchased from bodybugg). I wouldn't mind getting heart rate readings throughout the day, but for me it's all about the calories.

The sleep thingy may be interesting as well.

one week in, and i'm loving this thing. If I track my runs thru fitbit, it shows my heart rate for the whole run, which is what I was looking for.

I do like the calorie tracking part too - myfitnesspal type of deal, where I log my food. i'm not a big fan of logging everything, but because fitbit tracks calories out, it also makes sense to track calories in. I can see now that I can have an extra 400 calories today after my run and maintain the calorie deficit I'm looking for to drop these last few lbs...whereas yesterday I didn't do a damn thing and really had to watch my diet. I don't think the available food choices are as expansive as I think MFP may be, so I may look into integrating that.

What reviews are you pointing to? I haven't ordered yet. I usually like to at least see what gizmodo and some other major sites say.

The Verge, Wired, etc.

Now to be fair, I think a lot of the reviewers are nitpicking certain aspects of what was promised, for example the heart rate monitoring is apparently not great.

For me, as long as the calories burned utilizes the bodybugg technology, I'll be good with it.

I've been wearing this for about a month and its been great, haven't done any swimming though.

Common issues I saw that led to low reviews were:

The watch resetting (which is fixed as soon as you update to the firmwear)

A dim display when in a dark room (which is bright enough for me and conserves battery, and you can brighten for a few secs by pushing the button)

Step tracking is very accurate and the heart rate monitor strap is more accurate than built in HR sensors during a workout.

Also the notifications from my iphone work well and are handy and watch data autosyncs with iphone app.

ETA: tracks calories burned too

I'm sort of between the peak and the up3. If the reviews aren't blow my balls off good on the up3 i'm going with the peak

If mine ever ships I'll post a review after a week or so.

been using mine for about 2 weeks and averaging about 13,000 steps per day. I have a hard time getting much above 10,000 steps on a weekday but do 20,000 on a weekend day or a day I'm not working..

I got the charge but probably should have gone to the the HR one for when I ever get back to running again.

we should do a FBG walking daily challenge.. anybody in?

I got the Charge HR on Monday. I had Jawbone stuff for the past year and got tired of their junk breaking down. I like it so far.

I'd be in for a daily challenge.

You are right. No real time feedback with the Up3. Worse yet, it does not track HR during exercise at all, apparently:

Despite the $80 markup, all the Up3 does differently than the Up2 is calculate your resting heart rate, but only while you’re sleeping. It won’t tell you your heart rate throughout the day or while you exercise, the way the Apple Watch, the Fitbit Charge HR and many other bands do. That means it’s useless for intense workouts, or at least no more useful than a much cheaper band.
After scratching this from my list, I went ahead and bought the Scosche Rhythm+.

I've had my Up3 for about a day. Setup was easy and it seems like the main method of reviewing data is with your smartphone. I like the app so far. The band fits well and I barely notice it's there. So far it seems to be giving me calorie readings pretty consistent with my BodyBugg so I'm happy about that. The data it provides will be much more useful in a week or so when there's more of a history. Will report back then.

Wife bought me this for my birthday. It doesn't do quite everything I wanted but I really like it so far. She got it discounted and had a gift card so was like 50-60 bucks I think so I figured it would be ok to start with and if I want to ramp up to something more serious I would wait for you others to provide information on some of the newer devices. The big things I wanted was to replace the steps I was getting with my FitBit but add HR. Obviously GPS is something I'd love to have but for the price I'm happy enough - basically just replaced the old FitBit I had.

I returned the charge HR as i just can't wear it on my wrist as it was irritating nerve issues. I think i'm going to get the One.

cool, appreciate any insight you have here. Is it fugly? I haven't seen enough photos of it in the wild.
