Fitzgerald-Eagles History (1 Viewer)

Just saw this interesting tidbit on NFL.com:

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald told CSNPhilly.com on Friday that the Philadelphia Eagles offered the Cardinals a first- and a third-round draft choice for him in 2008.

The story doesn't say what kept the trade from happening, and does not include a comment from anyone in the Eagles' organization.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000064817/article/larry-fitzgerald-of-cardinals-i-was-almost-a-philadelphia-eagle?module=HP11_headline_stack

Later that year he caught 5 balls for 65 yards and 2 TDs in Week 13 at Philadelphia. They also played in the NFC Championship game, where we all know the Cardinals won. Larry Fitzgerald had 9 catches for 152 yards and 3 TDs at home.

He hadn't played against them in years until last year, where he went off for 7 catches for 146 yards and 2 TDs at Philadelphia.

For those of you that aren't good at numbers, that's 3 multiple TD games in a row against Philadelphia since the trade didn't go through. Something tells me that maybe Fitzgerald felt that the Eagles undervalued him in the contract talks somehow and he's made it a point to stick it to them ever since.

Yeah I was looking at these stats and they are quite interesting. Then I was looking at the stats on PHI's secondary. PHI hasn't allowed a receiver to go over 65 yards in their past 7 games. The secondary has seemingly gelled.

Fitz is the ultimate feast or famine play this week. I think however, it's very likely we see a 4-5/60-80/0 day. As an owner, I'd like to be proven wrong.

Fitz has owned us. As I posted in another thread, if DRC is on him I'd temper expectations a bit. If nnamdi is on him he'll score twice. Seriously, nnamdi is great but is not able to track a thrown ball very well. We all know Fitz is probably the best in the game at going up and grabbing just about any pass thrown his way. Couple that with nnamdi's apparent inability to do the same and I see a potential huge day for Fitz.

Again though, if it comes out that they are planning on DRC covering him I'd be a little nervous as DRC is playing as he was advertised prior to coming to Philly...probowl material.

As was shown last game, they are now moving DRC all over the field instead of quarantining him to one side. I think it's quite possible Fitz will at least see SOME of DRC tomorrow.

But when he's not... :football:

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves with this namdi and drc talk. For those that don't remember, in the game last year, on the plays namdi covered Fitz he had zero catches on 2 targets. The rest of the game he went off for 7 for 146 and 2.

True story I am making it sound like nnamdi is crap. He's obviously not. Its just that from what I've seen DRC seems to be better at tracking balls in the air. Nnamdi's talent is physicality off the line. Fitz is the kind of wr that can still make plays after having his route interrupted. Kolbs gonna be running for his life and chucking quite a bit.

Let's see who PHI has shut down in the past 7 games, whether or not the "they've held WRs to under 65 yards in the past 7 games" stat is actually relevant or not..

The last WR to do well against them was D.Branch on NE in week 12, he had a stat line of 6/125/0

Week 13 - Played against SEA, there's no WR worth mentioning here.

Week 14 - Played MIA, held Marshall to a 4/27/1 stat line. Interesting because I remember he had very few TDs on the year last year.

Week 15 - Played NYJ, so no one of real merit. Keller put up a 3/73/0 stat line on them. Holmes put up a 4/40/1 stat line. Interesting.

Week 16 - Played DAL, now we have some WRs who are worth something! Held Dez to a 6/62/0 stat line and Austin to a 4/40/1 stat line.

Week 17 - Played WAS, so on on of real merit was shut down.

Week 1 (2012) - Played CLE, no one is really worth mentioning here.

Week 2 (2012) - Played BAL, Boldin flailed and Flacco never really looked towards T.Smith. Statistically, this was the most impressive game the secondary played from a defensive standpoint.

What does this say to me? It says start Fitz. They couldn't hold Marshall, Holmes, Dez or Austin under 10 points (1PPR) in the last 7 games where they've been "shutting down" WRs.

But none of those teams have game manager kolb :) . I very we'll may sit fitz (and dez) over amendola and McFadden in ppr league...ballsy but I'm near the prove it to me first range with fitz and dez this year. That said, I feel like such a big deal was made of fitz getting his lowest stat line since rookie season that the staff al,ost has to be trying to incorporate fitz a "little extra" tomorrow to make sure that doesn't happen again...
