Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

Apparently, they really are greasy.

Men accused of trying to steal cooking oil in NJ

– Tue Sep 21, 6:16 pm ET

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. – Two New York residents are accused of trying to steal used cooking oil from a New Jersey restaurant. Police said they caught Youngil Kim and Byung Ho Choi sucking 700 gallons of grease from two storage tanks behind a Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant in North Bergen Monday.

Waste oil can be turned into biodiesel fuel. The restaurant sells its grease to a contractor for a little more than $1 a gallon.

Police said the Queens, N.Y., residents attached a hose to a pump in a canary yellow van. The oil was stored in a plastic bladder.

Detective Lt. Frank Cannella tells The Record newspaper they "weren't sneaky thieves, they were greasy thieves."

It's not clear if they have lawyers.
The Simpsons already tried this except it was from the school cafeteria.

Sportsguy Bill simmons chooses 5 guys. Which one of you asked him?

It's no contest. Five Guys in a runaway. RT @lagredell: Since you were in d.c., have you decided on Five Guys vs In-n-Out?

What is the official ruling of Five Guys vs Smash Burger? I just had my first Smash (had the beehive) and I really liked it. Fries better at 5 Guys, for my money, though.

Thought of this thread today when I ate at Char Grill in Raleigh, NC. No comparison, Char Grill blows away Five Guys. It's not close. It's a local chain, so I don't think it can be enjoyed outside the Triangle.
Char Grill was named by USA Today as the best burger in NC: 51 great burger joints  Five Guys not mentioned...
when they mention 1 burger joint per state, I wouldn't expect it to be, it's a chain, not a boutique

The selection they made for Utah is a joke.

I said this in another thread - Five Guys is becoming the In n Out of the East Coast. Are they good burgers (and better fries)? Yes. Better than most fast food? Yes. Fresh ingredients and a fresh approach? Sure.

Are they the biggest f'n thing since sliced freakin' rolls? COME ON PEOPLE.

Taste for yourself. They are good, maybe very good for WHAT THEY ARE. But hardly some unbelievable sensation (although again, their fries rule).

Personally, Ill take Five Guys over In n Out, but both are better than your usual fast food burger. Neither of them are as good as people seem to make them be. They are the Soprano's of fast food. Better than most, maybe significantly better but so unbelievable overrated and overhyped by the U.S. lemming mentality its sickening.

P.S. - Fatburger, actually cooked to order (and you need to have them GRILLED, or they arent so great) and totally fresh are MUCH better than either. They are the closest you get to a real hamburger, thick, juicy... not fast food thin like In n Out or charred beyond recognition by Five (thousand degrees because we state we only burn burgers for your "safety") Guys.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I think they are the biggest f'n thing since sliced freakin' rolls. In terms of fast food hamburger joints. I like it better than In n Out, granted I've only had In n Out once, and I had it before five guys, and at that time I thought In n Out was the biggest f'n thing since sliced freakin' rolls in terms of fast food burger joints.:lmao:It's the best out there at what it's trying to be, if that isn't impressive/worth mentioning, what is?

Did you asked for it grilled. Makes ALL the difference (fat drips away plus char grilled)

had one the other day for the first time. Liked it very much. Got a burger with cheese and mushrooms. It was delicious, but extremely greasy (I'm sure thats part of what makes it delicious).

Didn't like the fries at all.

no.at least when I go to Five Guys, I don't have to give them any secret instructions for making a super awesome tasty delicious burger.

ONE IN THE DOOR!

Went to the one in Reynoldsburg, OH last week. been open for about 2 months. Place was packed on a Thursday night. And major kudos for them actually frying up fresh bacon for the burgers (the joints near my place in VA have all resorted to frying a big batch early in the day and just using that for all of the days orders.)

Three visits to 5 guys. That is enough. Too expensive for a so-so hamburger. Small burgers but stacked high. Fries are gosh-awful and they fill the bag to the rim where you have to eat through the fries to get to the burger. Why do they put so many greasy fries in there? And I ordered the small.

Lots of hype but fails in delivery, IMO. $10 for a small burger, small fries, and a small drink. Thumbs down.

Just went to 5 guys the other day for the first time. Good(not great) burger, decent fries.

Question: Was it just the location I went to, or do they all have a 3X3 cork board with paper and crayons to write? One of the pieces of paper said "I love having 5 guys in my mouth". :lmao:

Had Fiveguys Burgers in Schaumburg IL, The cajun fries were pretty good but nothing I would go out of my way for, and the Burger was ok I did the all the way Bacon Cheeseburger. I was expecting a lot more out of what I have heard and was kind of disappointed by it. I'm not going to go out of my way for this joint anytime soon.

Have an urge for Five Guys but not driving 25 miles to get one. :kicksrock: That's the closest place with a decent burger around here too.

Five Guys is the best burger joint in Indiana. I guess I've drank the Kool-aid. Seriously, no other burger place in these parts can touch it. Good eats.

Cool site. I'll definitely vouch for Char Grill. Cookout seems to be their local competition, though I haven't cared for those. Dunno about Five Guys.

I travel a lot. I was in Nashua NH a couple of weeks ago and went to 5 guys. I had been to one in Strongsville, OH and remember really liking it except for the price. Anyway, $11 later, I was severely disappointed and I doubt I will ever go to another one again. Now Smashburger is much better than 5 guys.

:goodposting: Came in here to post nearly the same thing. I've been there a handful of times and yesterday it was over $10.00 for lunch. Way too much when Culver's and good local places in my town can be had for about $6.00. If they had a $7.00-ish option I think the place would be busier and they'd make more money long-term. I'm done. The premium price is just too high to justify it. I don't like feeling gouged so I'll exercise the only option I have.

Had a Little Bacon Burger with Lettuce, Tomato, Raw Onions, Jalapeno, A-1.

Regular Fries and a rootbeer.

Yummy. Best fast food burger and fries in town.

My burger was juicy and not greasy. My fries were hot and not soggy.

You can't walk into 5 guys in Charlotte and get a Cheeseburger "All The Way" (NC Style) Which is Chili, Mustard, Slaw, and Onions.

Truly, a culinary masterpiece, when done correctly.

Hrm. New location is open about a mile from my house. GF goes to the gym in the same lot...said they still have lines out the door at this place at 7pm on a weekday night almost a month after it's opened.

Considering going to grab it for dinner tonight to give them a shot but I'm not sure I feel like dealing with the bull####.
