Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

I've seen the hot dog & grill cheese on the menu, but I always thought they were there just for show
my kids get the hotdogs or grilled cheese. A lot of younger kids don't like hamburgers. And apparently Mr. Tremblay as well.
I like hamburgers. It's just that in the In-N-Out vs. Five Guys battle, I think it makes sense to evaluate not only the burgers, but the other things they offer as well. In-N-Out has some of the best milkshakes of any fast food place. Five Guys doesn't have shakes. I wanted to see what the Five Guys hot dogs were like. In-N-Out doesn't have dogs.

My verdict is that when I go to Five Guys, I'd rather get a burger than a dog. But the dog was perfectly good. I'm not complaining.

Were you going back in with your cup and going straight over to the drink machine, filling up and then walking back out? And doing this multiple times?

Or were you ordering food and brought your old cup with you for soda?
This.

Yes, I did it multiple times, but were talking I did this like 2-3 times over 4 weeks or so (never drove by/went there except for my 2 hour school commute once a week). If I was in there a few times over the period of a week I could see how I'd be called out on it, but at how infrequently I went in there - and I dont look conspicuous either - I was shuked at getting busted for grabbing free refills. I also informed her that nowhere on the signs, machines or walls does it say when my free refills ended. I saw a lot of Zagat ratings for various years, but no time frame for when my free refills expired.

So if you want to get out of 5G for under $10 then you need to steal from them.

Got it.
Go through the drive through at McDonalds and pick up some fries and coke, then walk into FG and order a cheeseburger to complete your meal. No stealing involved, and it's under $10.

Glad I could help you figure that out, but to be honest, any nimrod should be able to come up with that on their own. It's not FG's fault people are so ignorant.
Not a bad idea on the drink as I think all pops at McD's are $1, but Id rather pay the extra $$ for the better fries at 5G's anyway.

So if you rob them of soda, you can keep it under $10.
I actually got kicked out of a 5G's because a manager/assistant manager noticed I was coming in and bringing in my previously used 5G's soda pop cup for a refill. I dont know if she was looking for a promotion or what, but I was like "damn, you care that much about your fountain drinks"
:lmao:

This is a shtick, right?
Nope, no lie.

I was traveling once a week for school at that time, this was 2-3 yrs ago. Got my lunch a couple times at that 5G's on the way to school or back, whichever. I kept my cup I guess because why not for a free drink next week, and I figured why not keep it and get a free refill next week when I might not get lunch their on my way in case im not in the mood. But yeah, this "manager" called me out and basically said she had seen me come into 5G's and just fill up and refill without buying anything, bounce after a couple times (which was true, but seriously, you watch #### that close?!). I just threw my cup in the garbage and told her I didnt realize fountain drinks had reached the price of getting a promotion, good luck, you must be on the fast track!
And you are proud to tell that story as the manager being the #####?
Somewhat, but mostly because of people who think they are on the "fast food freeway" to a promotion by clipping me because I want a free soda pop that I was overcharged for in the first place.

I'd like to think the managers of an establish like that are doing more than being fountain drink gestapos.
SODA FOR LYFE, YO!
:lmao:

I'm at Five Guys. I paid 6.04 for a hot dog (no fries, no drink). I'm waiting for it to come out. I'll let you know how awesome it is.
I knew they had hot dogs on the menu, but Im shocked at the price. How are they charging about the same price or even more for a dog than the burger?!
The burgers are a couple bucks more than that. The bacon cheese dog is $5.59 before tax ($6.04 after tax) while the bacon cheeseburger is $7.69 before tax ($8.31 after tax). The little bacon cheeseburger (one patty) is $5.89 before tax ($6.36 after tax), so still more expensive than a dog.

I was going to get Five Guys but figured since we were spending so much on dinner, might as well hit up Alinea instead.

I can't comment on hot dogs or grilled cheese. I go to FG strictly for two things, burgers/fries - & they're excellent.

Also, although I try to avoid sugary drinks, their brand of iced tea is Gold Peak, so they win the beverage war.

How many days a week do you fatties eat out? The $4 extra at 5G is killing your wallets so I'm guessing you're eating out no less than 7 days a week.
How many times does it need to be pointed out that the price component is about value not cost.If I can get an, arguably, better meal for $6 then why would/should I pay $10?
It's not a better meal
Their fries are not comparable & therefore this can't be argued.

wow, were you in the Olympic thread too complaining about NBC not showing stuff live after you cord the cord on cable

Some of you are being willfully stupid. A 'regular' at 5G is a double anywhere else. The larger sized fry at 5G is enough for 2-3. If those items plus drink are $14 that's at least 1.5 times more food than a fast food place. Probably 2 times.
Or I can go to a place where I get a large patty double cheese burger, plenty of fries and still have a soda while not spending 14 or anything close to it.

I say we burn the place down!

I don't know where $14 comes from either.

I just did the online order, regular cheeseburger (2 patties) & little fries (prob bigger than an extra large at INO) = $9.78. This is a gigantic meal that would leave most people very full... They'll give you a cup for water, and if you're that concerned about the $2, you can use it for soda.

Lets put money aside here... Lets just pretend that either meal was free, would anyone still chose INO over FG?
Double Patty Hamburger(no cheese) + Reg Fries + Drink + Tax = $14.

If you want volume, you'd choose 5G. If you want flavor, InNOut.

Nothing against the place per se I just don't see the value not like I won't eat there or anything. In fact my lunch buddy wants to hit them up this week I think and I'll be fine if that's what she wants to do, I just know it will be the most expensive lunch I have all week by far.

Went a little Freudian there perhaps.

Does Five Guys too brass know about this thread? I think they should.
Pretty sure they've been posting in it.
Yeah, along with the In and Out brass.

Amazing that people still bash the 5G prices with a regular fries. I agree that I think the main sticking point (when you are there alone) for 5G is price, but you don't get the regular fries by yourself and if you do you are basically eating 3 orders of fries, so put that in your comparison. If you buy regular fries by yourself and complain about the price, then make sure you list the 2 cheeseburgers and 3 fries you fatties get at In and Out to compare. Seriously, anyone who can eat 5G regular fries in one sitting by themselves needs to stop going to 5Gs. If I go by myself, I just get the cheeseburger and maybe a drink (work from home, so I grab drink before I go pick anything up). The cheeseburger itself with some toppings is more than enough. I like the fries with my kids because I can split one little fries for the 4 of us since (hey Nipsey) they love the peanuts and eat those as their side with a couple fries. With the 4 of us all getting drinks and burgers/dogs, we get out of there somewhere in the $7 per range.

I get more fries than I'll eat at most places. They took something really cheap to make and piled it on so they could charge you more. It's amazing to me how people fall for it.

And then it finally dawned on me, we don’t really get any extra fries at all, do we?

The genius of this little show is that for all intents and purposes, it looks and feels like we get extra fries, that the guys and gals at 5 Guys are being cool and generous, but upon a little post-carb reflection the truth is that they planned on giving that amount of fries out anyway, and budget for that. But they package it in such a clever way that you think you are getting this great deal, this something for nothing.
Like I said you aren't getting anything extra and you paid for every fry.

You gotta stop this....I don't go uptown anymore and our Showmars isn't open yet (coming soon). Every time you bring it up my mouth starts watering.

That seems excessive... I think a boycott and possibly some picketing will be sufficient. How dare this place offer a big juicy burger and delicious french fries and then have the audacity to charge $9.78 - Those bastards!!

Sorry, but have to  at anyone talking about getting their family dinner at 5G calling other people "fatties." I'm sure you and your family are all Slim Jims with those dietary habits.

I went to 5G's tire shop over the weekend to get some new winter tires for my A5. Sure I spent $2400, but I walked out of there with 12 tires.

Sometimes you have to spend a little more to get a little more.

I went to In-N-Out tire shop. Only cost me $300 for four new tires! Of course, they're all those spare/donut tires, so I can only go 45 miles on them, but the price was perfect.

Plus, I only had to wait six hours for someone to help me out.

LOL, we don't go there much at all and when we do, the kids eat more peanuts than fries. There's a huge difference between going there after a game or instead of going to a restaurant on a Saturday night than 5G being our "family dinner" as we try to eat at home as much as possible. To be honest, I am pretty sure the peanuts are why my boys like going there more than anything else. Many times, my youngest two don't even eat a single fry, but I will stand by my fatty statement. If you are alone and can eat a whole regular fry order then you have a huge appetite.

I will agree with you a bit, there are usually some people in there when we go where you think to yourself that 5G really isn't the best place for them to be.

So, the regular burger/fries gets derided in here as too much food, and the little burger/fries gets derided as the "kids menu."

Bunch of Goldilocks in here.

Only the fries which they have you guys convinced you are making out on. You aren't but you seem to think you are so I guess that's what matters.

I don't think they're some tremendous dirt-cheap price or anything, but they're really tasty. So I like to eat them.

Had a bacon cheese dog and cajun fries yesterday for lunch at Five Guys and I felt really guilty for spending good money on good food and actually enjoying the meal instead of spending less for something I don't like.

I hope you whip yourself while standing in line at In-N-Out today.

Let's just agree that everything in the universe is overrated, and experiencing joy is a sign of weakness.
