Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

FBG1: Five Guys and InNOut are comparable but Five Guys is about twice the price.

FBG2: "You can split it", "animal $tyle fries", "free peanuts", "sorry you're so poor", "I can't go to InNOut because it's so far away (but it's too crowded and the fries suck)", "they don't yell at my Five Guys", "you're brainwashed", "bacon, dude"
What's your opinion on Astroburger? Back in the day it was the boobs.

You forgot "iced tea".

I like it but hipsters overrate it. a little pricey. i think i've only had the chicken sandwich. Grilled and came on a wheat bun. Probably the healthiest fast food joint if there is such a thing.

Five Guys makes a very good burger. Far better than McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Jack-In-The-Box, or the like.

I prefer In-N-Out, pound for pound, even before taking price into consideration.

But Five Guys and Smash Burger are both better than any other fast food burger besides In-N-Out.

The fries at In-N-Out are not for everybody. They can be bland. I personally like them either animal-style or with enough salt and ketchup, but they are nowhere near as good as Five Guys fries if both are eaten plain.

This thread is making me hungry for In-N-Out.
bump

MT's post is very reasonable by the way. I like both places and don't even love FG as much as this thread makes it seem. Just don't get the obsession over price, but obviously that's a factor in evaluating any restaurant/chain.

My complaint with In-N-Out fries is that half of them are cut so short. Hard to get a good dollop of kethcup on them. You get a lot of crumbs basically.

Animal style does cool fast which makes taking them to-go a problem. But hot in the restaurant they are real good. Need a fork though otherwise they just break apart.

And $8 for this mess.

ETA: the bun looks tasty.
I'm not a 5G-hater, but it is pretty impressive that they've got a burger joint using crappy buns that you can't spend less than $8 at. (Little Cheeseburger, Little Fries, no drink). That's $8 to say you want the kid's burger, kid's fries, and the ##### water cup. Three things a man wanting a big, juicy burger is rarely going to say.

It's mostly worth it, but they've got a nice little racket going.

They just don't have any legitimate competition in the "I want a burger and some fries that are a minor step up from fast food, but don't want to tip anyone" market. At least not on the East Coast.

At Five Guys they only give you one napkin but it's a HUGE napkin. My seven kids each tear off a piece for personal use and we still have plenty left to bring home. We haven't bought paper towels in years. This place is GREAT.
At In-N-Out, you only have to wait 40 minutes to get a really inexpensive Kleenex that they call a napkin!

it's no secret that some people don't like the INnOut fries. Some do though and it's because they keep it simple and let the ingredient speak for itself without processing. They don't bathe them is salt either. Some people want more salt or a different kind of frying oil. That's OK. You can bump all the old posts you want but somebody's personal opinion that something sucks doesn't make it true.

At least you won't have to use it. That cold, congealed, plasticky cheese doesn't make much mess.

I don't get animal style anymore cuz there's enough flavor, fat and calories in a double-double. Do they charge extra now for burger and fries animal style?
I get animal style but hold the sauce because I agree with you. No charge for animal anything.
no charge still accurate? I know when I've ordered it, I was charged and it seemed excessive to me at the time but I don't recall the details.

All fries need to be eaten piping hot once they absorb a little moisture it's all downhill. The trick to In-N-Out fries is to order them well done. That guarantees you get them fresh out of the oil. No sitting around.
For me, the trick is animal style. I can't tell you what I have against In-N-Out fries.... I just don't like them much by themselves.
Animal style, well done.
wait. you just said somewhere else that you don't like the fries animal style. now I'm confused.

Heading to In N Out for my first visit ever, big five guys fan. Will end the debate later. Time to research this "secret menu"
Double-double animal style, fries well done
how much you paying for the double double animal style here?

honestly have no idea and google not helping much.
I have no idea. I've honestly never thought about it. I was just helping out a first timer with the secret menu.

In Cali, there's no reason to eat at Five Guys. The rest of us don't have In N Out though.
 I live equidistant from both. Frankly, I prefer the variety of condiment choices that 5 Guys offers. Sometimes when I want just a plain ol' burger or don't feel like dropping $25 to feed my family, In & Out works just as well. They're apples & oranges to me.
Who gets a plain burger at In & Out? Animal Style that ##### up.
:lmao:

I like the fries at In-N-Out. Prefer it to a $4 bag 'o grease.

JoeT had never even "heard of animal style" at In N Out until I brought it up in here recently. Yet it's been talked about going back to the very beginning of this thread over and over again as a solution to making their awful fries actually edible.

And again it's not so much what 5G costs. It's the lack of ROI. I am more than willing to spend money on good food but let's get real. The burger is better than Wendys, McDs, etc. Yeah high bar there. The fries are fries. There is nothing special about them other than they dump them in a bag. Oh and you "know" where they come from because I am sure no one would just make that up. What does paying twice as much get me in true value? Not a damn thing that I can see.

:lmao: That place has been overhyped since the late 1980s. "You're going to Hollywood? You HAVE to go to Astroburger!"

everybody in here banging the In N Out burger is so much cheaper and a better value is quoting the cost of a regular burger. I'm assuming adding animal style adds a couple bucks to the price but nobody has mentioned that, yet you said in the beginning of this thread that basically nobody ever orders a burger plain at In N O.

Sorry, no wait, thankfully, I wasn't involved in this thread in 2012. And until this week I had never heard of "animal style" fries and you were the only one mentioning it.

You should save all of the extra dollars and invest in the Eminence Fund.

I could be wrong but I don't think animal style burgers cost extra. If they charged me more I didn't notice.
I don't think they charge more for animal style burgers. Just fries.
well, that's good to know. honestly had no idea.

why do they charge $3.40 for animal style fries though?

the only thing keeping this thread alive is the argument that FG is overpriced, and maybe it is. I guess I don't eat there enough to notice.

whoa, whoa whoa. Animal style is primarily used for burgers. I don't know anyone who gets the fries animal style. I certainly never have. I'd guess a decent percentage of customers get the burger animal style but not many get the fries that way. I honestly never knew it was an option until a few years ago. Anybody here advocating getting the fries animal style were just trying to present an option to you that you might like better. Again, "Animal Style" is something that has to do mostly with the burgers.

It doesn't add anything to the price (I don't believe).

So you rarely eat there. Good to know.
