12/21/2011Great Burgers and Fries! Really tasty food. I love how they yell when you come in! Two at the door!
She likes Einsteins Oil change place also. They yell every time they touch something on your car. Really creepy.

I've never walked into a FG, been yelled at, had peanuts thrown at me, & forced to order a fries that were too big - Maybe others aren't as suited for difficult social situations like I am... Situations such as ordering a fast food burger/fries

we got inundated with people telling us InNOut was about to go down.
I wasn't one of them so don't take it out on me.

I get In N Out anytime I'm near one. That winds up being like once a year.

I just don't see the point in comparing it to chain that has a location a few miles away (for me and most people in the US I'm guessing). If I love In N Out, I can't ever get a decent burger anywhere else?

Out of those three I think one has actually been raised here. And it isn't fast food. Fast food doesn't take 15 minutes and cost 11 bucks for one person. Restaurant pricing, restaurant wait, but I have to go get the food myself and it isn't really all that.

seems anyone in here who likes FG has to defend that view because it's not the super awesome value that In N Out is. and because they give out free peanuts.

so, I guess a chain that charged a few bucks less and put away the peanuts would be acceptable to the In N Out crowd?

What kind of local burger places are you guys talking about? Bars?
If you are ever in Columbus, go to THIS ONE!
So I'm trying to think of a local burger place around Baltimore. Obviously, there are lots of bars that sell burgers, but not really one that sticks out as a burger joint. We have plenty of Mexican, crab houses, pit beef stands, etc. but no real burger places.
In my area that I can think of:

Jake's Hamburgers

JC's Burger House

Twisted Root

Country Burger

Scotty P's Burgers

Mooyah Burgers

Gazeebo Burgers

Peace Burger

I'm sure I'm missing a few.

All 3 of my points have been raised multiple times (maybe not "throwing peanuts" but you get the idea).

Again, I go to FG, walk out under $10 & have my food in under 7 minutes every time...

Maybe other experiences aren't the same as mine, but I'm a fairly frequent consumer...

Yeah, he should stay away from New York if he's picky about food. The lack of good burgers in Manhatten has produced a HUGE market for Five Guys. Likewise the lack of good pizza in New York has produced a HUGE market for Sbarro.
huh?
I believe he's saying New Yorkers are so desperate for a decent burger that they'll wait in line for an hour at Shake Shack, so 5G is a welcome addition.

I ordered one sandwich and a small drink, 11.00. Sorry I didn't get the kiddie burger and water.

Is 7 minutes considered Fast Food?

I understand this completely. When I visit New York, I can't wait to eat at Chipotle and Panera. Gotta hit Applebees at least once before I go too.

For someone #####ing about cost for 12 pages, why don't you sit down nightly at any of the places near FC42's house?

Here are 3 burger specific places that the wife likes:

Bare Burger

The Burger Bistro

MooBurger

I personally like FG better than all 3 of these, yet I can't walk out of any of these places for under $50 for ####### burger and fries with the wife and kid (and that is absolute minimum!)

Nor is it a bag of potato chips.

Who is saying you can't ever get a decent burger anywhere else?
seems anyone in here who likes FG has to defend that view because it's not the super awesome value that In N Out is. and because they give out free peanuts.

so, I guess a chain that charged a few bucks less and put away the peanuts would be acceptable to the In N Out crowd?
:lmao:

The InNOut crowd has to defend it's place from fry experts and professional meal sharers. How does Buffalo Wild wings do in Buffalo? Not great I would assume. Now imagine people telling you it's better than Duff's or whatever and citing the 50 free sauces or that you could share an order of fritters because they were so huge. You'd be like gtfo.

Would you get a bunch of people explaining angrily how much better Hooters is?

In Cali, there's no reason to eat at Five Guys. The rest of us don't have In N Out though.
 I live equidistant from both. Frankly, I prefer the variety of condiment choices that 5 Guys offers. Sometimes when I want just a plain ol' burger or don't feel like dropping $25 to feed my family, In & Out works just as well. They're apples & oranges to me.
Who gets a plain burger at In & Out? Animal Style that ##### up.
:lmao:
You are confusing the burger animal style and the fries animal style. The animal style burger comes with no extra charge.

BW3 is an Ohio-based chain. I don't know if any exist in Buffalo but yeah, they likely wouldn't do well as every corner bar in Buffalo likely makes better wings than they do.

"professional meal sharers" :lmao:

it's ok to like a place even if it's not perfect in every way. I didn't realize 5G was such a threat. People in California don't even like the peanuts apparently, and they charge way more so what's to worry about?

you guys are lousy with good burger chains in California. the rest of the US doesn't have that, which is why a place like 5G has had success in their expansion.

Start a Hooters thread. I bet you would. Then when Aaron shows up and says Anchor bar is better he'll get the "not all of us have an anchor bar nearby" argument and the thread will be off.

I know a good bankruptcy attorney in North Carolina if this has caused problems for you.

Why is that funny? Animal style is better,

Who gets a plain burger at In & Out? Animal Style that ##### up.
everybody in here banging the In N Out burger is so much cheaper and a better value is quoting the cost of a regular burger. I'm assuming adding animal style adds a couple bucks to the price but nobody has mentioned that, yet you said in the beginning of this thread that basically nobody ever orders a burger plain at In N O.
You are making an incorrect assumption.

yes, that's been covered. my bad. google let me down.

I remembered ordering animal style fries in a trip to vegas a few years ago and seeing the $2 upcharge or whatever and thought it was a bit excessive. I mistakenly thought the same increase would apply to the burgers.

I don't think you understood which one of the wings places is better in my analogy.

If they opened a Hooters in Buffalo would you go?
no.

hooters food is terrible. I try to avoid them in any city.

I guess Buffalonians don't like all those free, extra dipping sauces, giant portions and busty waitresses. You guys are lousy with good wing places in Buffalo, the rest of the us doesnt have that

I dislike Hooters because:

  • The food is terrible. Even the wings.
  • Those pantyhose are terrible. All I can think of is how sweaty (and not in a good way) those broads must be under there. Like one of those cultures you breed bacteria in in Biology.
  • My proto-hipster reactionary drive kicks in when dudes gush over the place. Go get a decent meal somewhere and then go to a strip club and/or go home and porn it up.

are you saying the food at FG is terrible? i thought the three main complaints we've heard over and over in here were:

a) overpriced

b) they yell at you

c) wtf peanuts?

This is a thread about Five Guys and yet most of it revolves around a comparison with In N Out. Why is that?

You're trying very hard to push something that isn't very common at In-N-Out.
not pushing it.

#1 I thought there was an upcharge for animal style on the burgers like there was on the fries. seems like I was wrong there (but it sounds like they charge $2 to melt some cheese on the fries?)

#2 I have seen quite a few examples in here of people suggesting or recommending animal style fries. I didn't make it up. I thought it was more popular, but it seems like I might have been overstating things a bit there.

I'm not pushing one over the other in here. I said very early on that people in California have no reason to eat at FG. I like both places. I'm just here for the laughs mostly and there have been a ton in this thread. I don't know why both places can't be good.
They can both be good. I have said repeatedly that 5G has a tasty burger but that doesn't seem to be getting through to people.

Hooters has suck food, has always had suck food that cost too much and now the only reason for going there is gone. Last one I was in most of the waitresses looked like ten pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. At least the food is OK at Tilted Kilt and they actually have some hot women there.

I'm not saying it's terrible and I've never eaten at a Hooters but I bet you'll find people here that love the food at Hooters that would make that same argument you just posted. You'd tell them to gtfo.

well, I guess

I'm not sure what I'm getting wrong though. The fries thing?

I like both restaurants (like Shake Shack too). I'm just saying one is a national chain and one isn't so comparing them seems rather pointless. If I think In N Out is way better, it doesn't change anything because the nearest one is probably a thousand miles away.

EDIT: Hooters and BW3 are national chains that seem like they could be directly compared with one another pretty easily. Most people have a choice there and can pick the one they prefer. Not many people have the same choice with these two burger options.

Twisted Root is solid. Uni took me there during our day-long bender. Recommend.

I like Hooter's wings. Don't care who knows it.
My wife loves them. She thinks they're better wings than anywhere else. I don't complain when she wants to go. Our three young kids also seem to attract the other waitresses over. Probably a nice break from being oggled at all night. Again, I don't complain at all... but their wings do suck balls.

FWIW, the only Hooters that I know of in Buffalo closed like 6 years ago. There may be some that I don't know about in the southtowns.

There are a few BW3's here, but I don't think they do very well. I've been to one of them like 3 times when they used to have a good price deal on a certain weeknight (Tuesdays, I think?) back when I was in college.

Alright - I'm imagining thousands of idiots living near me. Now what?
