Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (5 Viewers)

Had a Double R Burger at Roy Rodgers yesterday - that burger kicks the ### of either 5G (way too dry and overcooked) or InO (way to skinny and lame)

That's the one with ham and cheddar on it right?

Not a big fan of it the time I tried it.

Ham and some cheese (I don't like cheese, so just the ham, but then load it with lettuce, pickly, onion and the super awesome roy's BBQ sauce (similarish to Arby's Sauce)

East coast guys, we just got Rita's italian ice in L.A.. Is it really popular in Philly and where ever else that's had it for years?

The custard/gelato combo is excellent.
I know the from south Jersey but the spread everywhere. We have then down here in south Florida now.

Based in PA, they have a huge presence in a number of the beachside destinations in the Northeast. HUGE presence in MD, a good number in NY as well. Good stuff overall.

For ices, I'd prefer Ralph's (I think it's just on Long Island?), and of course we have a ton of great little Italian gelato type places around the NY area.

So I was on the road today and hit up my favorite road place The Cracker Barrel. I always get the chicken and dumplings there. I was a little disappointed as I felt like they were light on the chicken and a few of the carrots were undercooked. Really never had that before. They were packed but still. So definitely did not live up to my usual experience.

Stopped by Five Guys today for lunch with my better half and this is the sign that was waiting for us.http://www.boozyburbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/2014-04-18-12.46.12-600x450.jpg

We both got a shake with 2 burgers and an order of fries.

I had the sweet caramel/cherry mix as requested by HF and it was delicious, she had a banana/peanut butter mix that was simply amazing(easily the best of the two,we both agreed).

Thick, creamy and well worth the price!

Highly recommend them if you have a store nearby doing it.
2 burgers each or 2 burgers total?

1 order of fries each or 1 order of fries total?

Not being a grammar nazi, honestly curious since it could be a huge amount of food.

Probably. But I like my shakes with two scoops of ice cream and milk. A shake made with 2 burgers and an order of fries sounds disgusting. Like a beef/potato smoothie.

We don't have Cracker Barrels out here. I didn't know it was fast food.
It's about as far from fast food as you can get. They intentionally make you wait for a seat even when the dining room is half empty. They do this so you'll shop their country store while you wait to be sat. Don't go there starved to eat. It's torture.

Yeah, we cut both cups in half

Then why are we talking about it in this thread?

That's just stupid.

Not sure how they do that. We only had one DQ here in town and I never went to it.
The put the ice cream and toppings in a metal cup and then use a huge freestanding machine with an oscillating wand sticking out to mix everything together so the toppings are distributed throughout the ice cream evenly.

I didn't know Dairy Queen used sex toys to make their treats.

I think any rules for this thread were lost by page 12.

Why do you think they're so happy?

They all do look like they're in on a dirty little secret.

This is a thread that started out discussing a fast casual, not fast food, burger chain. Then many brought their epic local casual dining burger places into the discussion.

Horse is already out of the barn.

When you finish the pint of Ben & Jerry's, the Blue Balls are gone.

Certainly are for the guy that made it for you. I know I can taste that hand spun difference.

I have to say, I've been really impressed by the salads that fast food places are cranking out these days.

Zaxby's, Chick-Fil-A, and Wendy's salads are all really wonderful. Even the McD's salad for a few bucks less isn't terrible. I still haven't tried Burger King (avoid that place in general) or Bojangles yet (can't bring myself to get anything other than the Cajun sandwich there).
Ordered an Arby's combo tonight and got the side salad instead of fries... simple, but good. Just salad, tomatoes, and a little cheese.

Cracker Barrel

Outstanding breakfast menu, lots of options and delicious biscuits. Country-fried chicken with gravy, corn, mashed potato.

Someone said its torture, hardly.

I stopped by a Fosters Freeze on the way up to Sacramento yesterday. Wow what a craphole. The strawberry shake was excellent but the chili cheeseburger looked/tasted like booty, and the fries were limp.

So on the more local side a review for my Charlotte friends. Went to a place called Sauceman's for lunch a couple of days ago. It's a BBQ place, on the corner of West Blvd and Hwy 49, that has won a couple of smaller competitions. It wasn't bad but I was expecting more. And I was a little disappointed in the Mac and Cheese. It was a bit dry. The meat was good though on a par with Mac's Speed Shop which for a chain ain't bad.
I went to Sauceman's a couple of weeks ago at 4:15pm. I ordered the brisket and it was really dry (old). Said something to the staff, and they said there would be a fresh brisket ready in 15 minutes if I wanted to wait. So of course I did. They brought out a double portion and it was great -- really loved it. Also loved their fried green tomatos. I'm not much of a sauce man, but their Golden Octane was the best sauce I've ever had.

the macaroni's soggy, the peas are mushed, and the chicken tastes like wood

What's everyone's thoughts on Arby's potato cakes. I am a big fat fan. They are always freshly made because they don't get enough orders for them and when dunked heartily in both Horsey Sauce and Arby's Sauce I ready for my monthly diabetic coma.

Yeah they are big, triangular tater tots - but they are like the Peter Luger of monster tots.

Ate here back in June and thought the pork, sauce, and sides were all excellent. And their servers were very attractive :homer: . (I live out west so maybe Saucemans is mediocre compared to local joints, but it is much better than the non-NC BBQ spots I've been to)

Had lunch there today, was a ghost town. 5 guys has to be hurting
Nope. Just the franchisee owner. Five Guys gets 6% of every dollar regardless of whether or not the franchisee makes a profit.

Wants some more peanuts? Need more fries?
Pretty standard royalty here.
And?
 I read your post as implying that it was somehow unfair to the franchisees. If that's not what you meant than disregard. Although if franchisees are struggling to make a profit corporate won't be around very long. Unhappy franchisees make it hard to grow or sell more franchises.

The moment you all have been waiting for...

My review of five guys since I ate there for the first time yesterday.

Ordered a single with a little fries. Fries were overly salted but otherwise yummy. Burger was good but nothing earth shattering, that is until I walked back to my office and promptly had to use the john. Between that and the fact that they use peanut oil for their fries (and my son has peanut allergies) gives them an overall score of 5.0 out of 10.

Carry on.
