Flex Position (1 Viewer)

3nOut

Can anyone point me to any studies showing stats and strategies on which position players are better to start at flex? Over the course of the season, I built a decent deep team with a couple of studs. The issue now is that I have a hard time deciding who to start as my flex. We start 2WRs and 2RBs with either position also eligible at Flex.

The players I have at WR3 and RB3 are fortunately putting up WR2 and RB2 numbers. In my opinion, my starters should play regardless of matchup while my flex should be someone I can rely on to get x number of points and swap them out as necessary. I'm just not sure which position is safer to start at Flex. I'd most likely start a RB over a WR with similar matchups, but do you start a RB with a bad matchup over a WR with a good matchup because RBs are more consistent at scoring regardless of who they play? Does that make a difference?

My gut feeling is that RBs put up more consistent numbers than WRs since they usually get more oppoprtunities and don't have to rely on QBs to get the the ball.

I don't want to turn this into a 'Who do I start thread', but as an example (you can use other players as your examples), I am having a difficult time deciding between Forte, R Bush, P Thomas, Maclin, Holmes, and L Moore.

So who do you go with assuming everyone is healthy, a RB because he's a RB or a WR because of his matchup?

Wow, can't believe this fell to page 3. Not one reply all day. If it means anything, Bloom's flex ranking this week has a WR as my best option while Dodd's says a RB.

I'm just not sure how many "studies" are done on fantasy football stats, especially something like this which is so dependent on other factors such as scoring, players, overall situation, etc etc etc. This just seems like something you gotta go with logic and situation.

Depends on your roster. Consistency of the other players plays a big part, as well as who is your WR or RB.

If you have a RB who gets a decent amount of touches (think Stewart or the Dallas backs back in the day) then play him.

But if the rest of your roster is pretty secure, then I'd go for a WR in PPR, they're more likely to "go off" and get huge numbers.

This is just my observation, nothing scientific about it.

Tried this already, earlier in the season. Here is the thread.

People overwhelmingly said RB and I tend to agree with them. But this season my WRs are steadily kicking butt while my RBs are stinking up the place. Just my bad luck though, not the norm.

I (generally) feel like WRs have a higher ceiling and lower floor. If I need consistency in a given week (if I feel that I have a slight advantage over a tough opponent, for example) then I'll start the RB. If I'm looking for a breakout (severely outmatched; or maybe if I'm trying to hit the league's high score for the week) then I'll play the WR. I've got Mike Wallace as my WR3, and I've had good success using him as a flex, though I'm sure to rotate McCoy in if I don't think the Steelers will need to go to the long ball that week.

You have McCoy as your flex? Your roster must be scary

As is my record. I'm leading the league in scoring, but it's taken a 4-game win streak to clime into playoff contention. Sitting at 6-4 now. Vick/RoethlisburgerGore/Bradshaw/McCoy/Blount/BestNicks/Megatron/Mike WallaceWhitten
