Middle aged man with no asthma, non-smoker, and no HIV type illness the odds are absolutely tiny you would die of this thing with or without treatment. So, can I get some odds?
Has anyone who hasn't got the shot got the flu? I've never had a shot or the flu.
still holding up here with neither shot nor FluHas anyone who hasn't got the shot got the flu? I've never had a shot or the flu.
Had the flu last week. It's not 100% effective and you have to start it within 48 hours of symptom onset, but personally Tamiflu was great. I had all of the classic flu symptoms, fever, chills, sore throat, malaise, etc. Tamiflu knocked out the fever, chills, and sore throat within a day. Felt like garbage, but I had the flu 15 years ago and had all of the nasty stuff. Didn't help with solid bowels and eating, that took a few days. But wasn't in agonizing pain with stomach pains like I was the last time I had the flu, so that was a positive. I have an HSA so $90 for generic Tamiflu is not cheap, but I'd get it and take a shot at it if you're within the 48-hour symptom window. It can make the flu suck a lot less, worth the gamble.PIK95 said:I used to have asthma because my mom smoked like a chimney. I never did. I'm clear on the other fronts. I really hope this Tamaflu doesn't kill my stomach.
Precisely why I went to the doc as soon as I developed a horrible cough post-flu. These bacterial infections run rampant through folks with flu-compromised immune systems and I made sure to get on antibiotics immediately. Who knows? May have saved my life.culdeus said:I mean the scary part is it sounds like people get to feeling better after the flu, then something serious in their lungs hit and they drop dead within like a day. If you get exposed to strep throat during the illness, like at a doctors office, that is one way people end up RIP. The flu doesn't kill you but the strep does.

It's up to about 25% again currently. Some years it can be over 50% effective in terms of prevention. And that ignores the fact that some people who do get the flu after being inoculated get a milder, shorter sickness. The article said the flu shot is typically 30% effective
The flu vaccine is more effective than expected, federal health officials said on Thursday at a special news conference held to discuss the dangerous flu season, which is expected to kill more than 50,000 Americans.
This year’s vaccine is about 25 percent effective against the H3N2 strain of flu that is causing most illnesses and deaths, said Dr. Anne Schuchat, acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In a bigger surprise, the vaccine is about 51 percent effective in children, according to the C.D.C.’s preliminary analysis.
Like health officials are going to give you the truth. Lol like Philip Morris reporting on the dangers of smoking.
That was my fear yesterday. I didn't know it was possible to feel that bad. Pretty good this morning, just really achy.I have a good friend at work whose wife almost died from the flu 2 years ago. She was a healthy 40-year-old mother of two. Ended up in the ICU on a ventilator for about 7 days, then moved to a rehabilitation place for another 2-3 weeks after that. I make sure everyone in my family gets the flu shot now.
