Bird Flu: Should we be worried? (1 Viewer)

At this point, you’re much more likely to be gored by a hippo, so prep accordingly.

Any update?
Not great that it’s become an issue in several species domestically, though not a significant risk for human transmission…yet.

Hard to predict if/when that will happen, but the larger the viral reservoir, the greater chance it mutates, and recombines with other strains. Still, the bigger threat remains in the developing world, where sanitation and human proximity to animals is a recipe for disaster.

And I’m not optimistic we’ve learned much, if people are more concerned about inflation than future pandemics.
Curious what this means from your perspective:

Not sure, but more concerned as time passes. Still not TP-hoarding concern.

At least we already have a template for flu vaccines, and therapeutic options.

If you thought COVID was fun, wait until you get a load of . . .

BIRD FLU!

Will they not let us call it bird flu because it’s offensive to all the women Frankie Valli is addressing in the crowd?

Tsah-bah-bump.

I went duck hunting earlier this year, with 1 more trip planned and i admit it worries me. I wore an n95 mask when plucking the bird(got 1 teal) and will do so again, in addition to all the precautions.

I’ll just throw this out there, but maybe a good time to lay off slaughtering birds for a while?

I have not had an opportunity to go hunting in years and the only reason I am going is because I wanted to eat wild duck specifically. It does not taste like farmed duck or chinese duck.

In my 20's i did quite a bit of waterfowl hunting and ate it because I was poor and a cheap meal, not because it was good. But I have not had it in over a decade. I am a better cook now and I want to see if I can now make it taste good.

Wrap it in bacon. Cook it. Eat the bacon.

Your choice, of course. While any transmission is an extremely low probability event, there are plenty of duck in the world, and you'll surely have other opportunities to eat them in the future, after flu season, and H5N1 is better contained.

I always liked it. Sandwich a couple of strips around pineapple and wrap in bacon. Don't overcook.

Now geese are a conundrum. Didn't matter what I did, tasted like an old leather show that a donkey had eaten and shat out.

Will the media scare tactics work this time like it did last time(Covid)...you know which was the root cause of inflation and bunch of other issues we now have to deal with.

😂

Haven’t been around in a while. Good to know TripItUp is still Speedballing OANN.

Back to the real world:

Media definitely chasing their clicks for sure, but sensible people know to listen to the epidemiologists. Nothing to panic over at this point.

We have since moved to a more rural area in East Tennesssee and learned a couple lessons on what “preps” worked and what needed tweaking from COVID.

We still both work remote and the new place is much larger and on more land so we’re better suited to ride out the early stages of another pandemic (whether it’s this or something else).

Anticipating an increase in house cats dying.. that should get the Facebook moms buzzing.

From what I understand, If Pigs begin dropping, level of concern goes up a bit.

Until human > human transmission hits this is fairly easily avoidable. Not sweating it yet.

Nice to see YLE is still online and sharing her wisdom.
