Foley is out (1 Viewer)

Why would they? They have no obligation to pay a guy who isn't on their roster. They invested a lot of time, money, and effort into making him a part of their plans and he screws up. So now SD should pay? Why?

We'll see how the case works out but he was intoxicated, resisted being pulled over (not sure of the off duty aspect with regards to pulling over but if he was drunk he shouldn't be on the road), ignored multiple warnings INCLUDING a warning shot and advanced on the cop even after he was shot once. Dunno what you're thumb downing about. The Chargers shouldn't have to pay $2mil for a guy who's own dumb ### got hisself into the hospital with a bunch of holes in him. He let his team down and needs to pay for it.

Very difficult call to make, but the right one, IMO. You have to wonder how this will sit in the locker room - where Foley was a team leader.

I don't think we know all of that stuff yet.But if it's true, the Chargers shouldn't pay him for that reason. If it's not true, the Chargers shouldn't pay him because it'd reduce his damages award against the off-duty cop and possibly the city.

Unless the locker room is filled with idiots, they'll also feel this was the right call.

Circumstances took him out for the season.

Some self created, others maybe beyond his control.

He was getting paid to represent the Chargers on and off the field.

I guess they didn't care too much for the image he was presenting.

He has to get healthy; they need to replace a starter or improve the team.

The $$$ could come in handy in doing the latter.

I read in another post on this board a comment that Foley was attending a team function - a dinner paid for by the Chargers rookies. If that is the case, and he was intoxicated as a result of attending this team function, and the team didn't stop him from DWI...the Chargers may be liable for damages. That's how it works in other businesses. It will be interesting to see if he files a lawsuit for his pay.

for 1, cops don't take warning shots.too much risk involved. they shoot to disable. prevent themselves from being harmed. this isn't the movies where they fire a round in to the ceiling to let people know they're serious. they give you a chance to obey, if you continue to advance, they plug you.

This one did. He actually took three. Unless, of course, he was simply distracted by a couple of seagulls that flew by.

I don't believe the rookie dinner thing is sanctioned by the Chargers organization. I don't see how they can be responsible. It's not an official event and it doesn't involve any staff/management. Hell, we don't even know if he was DWI yet.

According to the report I read, no link but it's in the other Foley thread, the cop fired a warning shot. Then even after plugging the unarmed, but still 260lbs of NFL LB muscle, Foley once he still advanced on the cop. His agent said he was shot 3 times, arm leg and chest. And the officer tailed the guy doing 90mph, weaving erratically in and out of traffic. His reckless driving no doubt spurring the off-duty cop into action.Whether he fired into the air first, as the other article mentioned, or not, after the first shot (or even the second!) I think Foley could be said to have been 'warned'.
