Well, we knew that after dropping the first two league matches, and then losing a nail-biter in extra-time to Brighton, was going to put a lot of pressure on us to get a result in North London. We opted to
try out a new tactic, trying to put Tottenham's defenders under a lot of pressure.
Now, in retrospect, perhaps the 1-1-5-3 was a
bit ambitious. And maybe we should not have gone with the overload mentality. But the coaches* and I thought we needed that extra spark.
At the end of the day,
the final score probably flatters Tottenham more than it should. I honestly thought when we pulled one back at 27-1 that we were going to make a game of it.
Some of the lads
did not put in their best performance in this game. But, I knew after this game that Trent Alexander-Arnold was too good for this team, so I made plans to sell him on to another team - for the good of his career. I think he appreciated being allowed to leave for Huddersfield on a free transfer.
The press were not too kind. In fact, if you ask me, they rambled on too long, screen, after screen. I mean who has time to scroll that much? Its just one match. We'll bounce back after the international break.
There were a few disgruntled senior players who seemed upset after the game. I am not sure why. I saved them the humiliation of that drubbing by not playing them, so you think they would be thanking me. But, as the dissension grew louder, we sent Milner and Sahko packing on free transfers, and loaned Leiva out for the season. That freed up enough money to award a couple of our younger players with new long-term contracts. I think its a win-win.
*I say "coaches" but I really just imagine that is what the coaches would have recommended if we had any coaches.
