For all those that fell they are insulted by trade offers: (1 Viewer)

Don't mess with Texas
I don't remember which shark wrote this but I kept it and changed it when needed to fit my offer. I only use this after my first reply, if offer has gotten out of hand. Use it to if we wish or maybe add a letter to this thread.

"Dear XXXX.

You are right. Sorry. I was trying to take advantage of you since your not so stellar team made me think you had no idea what you were doing with regard to Fantasy Football. While I would love to have Randy Moss and Cedric Benson, you are out of your mind if you think I'm going to trade 2 of the most explosive backs in the game (Jones, Jones) and one of the most uber-productive (Davis) for a receiver that just changed teams and a rookie with an undefined role.

As a last ditch effort to get Moss from you, I'll offer a trade as lopsided as the one you just sent me: I'll give you my 2006 7th round rookie pick for Moss. Now, try to meet me in the middle and we may have something to talk about. Otherwise, enjoy drafting 1st overall next year...

Sincerelly,

Noah"

That's a pretty clever reply.

I just can't seem to grasp why anyone would get so upset with what they perceive as a poor offer. Why do so many people take it personally? I have seen a ton of deals that I thought were a joke, but two rational, competent, FF owners agreed to it. Does anyone actually think they have the market cornered on what is an acceptable offer or not?

I'm not sure anyone is taking it personal. Yesterday I received an offer for LT2, the offer was A. Boldin, I thought it was pretty funnny not insulting. Trades offers like that don't deserve a reply only a letter.

I agree with what you are saying, and I didn't mean to say that you were taking it too seriously. Sorry if it came across that way. I was just thinking that there are so many posts on these (and others) boards along those lines. And I totally hear you about the crazy offers that come in the ol' inbox from time to time.

 No problem. When fantasy football no longer become fun, that's when one should walk away and I agree.

People take bad offers personally because they make assumptions about the thinking of the person making the offer. How many times have you read an offer you received and thought to yourself: "How stupid does he think I am?!" Well, if we stop for a second we realize the other party doesn't really think we're stupid, it's just that they either perceive value differently or (more likely) are trying to start somewhere, and know they are starting too low but figure what the hell. The thing is, we need to get past that initial "How stupid does he think I am?!" reaction, not take it personally, and NOT respond with a pissed off attitude. Doing so will only close a line of communication we may want open at a future time.

In one of my leagues I got a recent offer that was wacky, but I've done deals with this owner before in another league so I know he can be reasonable once we get past his initial offers. He offered Edge James, Buckhalter, and his 2nd round rookie pick for M Turner, Caddy, and my 1st. My first reaction could have been to get insulted, but I know it was just his way of trying to get a conversation started. I'd prefer he didn't do things this way, but he does and that's life. Nothing ended up happening after his 2nd (better) offer because I value Turner more in dynasty than he thought I would, and I gave my honest opinion of the value of the players (both his and mine) involved, but keeping it friendly regardless of the initial offer allows us to perhaps deal in the future without any previous baggage we could have created.

 This is especially true with lesser known guys. I have the 1.03 in a league, and taking a chance that it would be Lynch and he would be drafted by Green Bay, I tried to get Morency to have his backup before he really was his backup. Turns out the guy who has Morency thinks he's a lot better than I do. When he told me how highly he regarded him, my offer looked bad. I was just trying to get a possible future backup.

I hope you didn't offer him Craig Nall. THAT'S cause to be insulted.

Excellent response, thanks for the good read. Couldn't agree more with this.
