There are a few free agents I'm eye-balling but no one on my bench that I can drop.. when can we drop players that played today and pickup free agents? Right now, "A player has already played and is no longer editable for today. (Error #174)" note stops me.

are you sure...mine always kicks in at 12 a.m. eastern time.eta..maybe it varies upon league setup...
