For discussion sake: All starting NFL QB's out for season (1 Viewer)

I know this is wacky but thought it would be fun for arguement sake. Say Brady, E. Manning, P. Manning, Romo, Rivers, Favre, Rothlisberger etc. all are out for the season. Got to go with the backup QB for the remainder of the season and potential playoffs and need the other 21 guys on the field to step up. Who has the edge down the stretch now?

I'll go with the Chargers. Phillip Rivers is nice, but this is a physically dominant team all-around and Billy Volek is a pretty good backup. Of the top tier teams, I think they lose the least going to their backup.

The Steelers with Batch have to be up there. I always liked Batch with the Lions. He just got hurt too much.

Baltimore could be up there, as the difference between McNair and Boller is slight, but I think they've got too many problems other than QB right now.

Nobody in the NFC looks all that enticing.

The team who doesn't NEED to throw the ball to win.

The Cowboys and Chargers fall into this group. Neither of these teams rely on stretching the field to win ball games. They do it with short dump passes and running the ball.

This theory was tested a few times when McNabb went down. In both cases (Feeley and Garcia), they employed the run & short pass strategy to get them into the playoffs. By minimizing mistakes, they were able to do it.

 I would put the Steelers in the same category. Having experienced guys like Billy Volek, Charlie Batch, and Brad Johnson won't hurt either.

Strange...no one think Bellichick and the Pats can do it without Brady? Pats have won numerous times in the past while decimated with injuries to alot of pro-bowl and star players all at the same time. Is Brady (1 player out of 22) drop them down from "best team ever" status to nothing more than a marginal playoff team? Same for P. Manning?

Can we imagine we'd use tennis balls instead of a football too?

Im really trying to take this question seriously and I'm trying to figure out the value of the post.

Maybe FFA material ?

Yes and Yes, they are that good and their backups are marginal at best. I think the QB loss would hurt the Colts much more than the Pats though, they still have a top shelf D.
