Foreign auto repair help (1 Viewer)

So I'm traveling from Washington DC to Maine for Christmas. My finances family lives there so they are hosting a large family gathering. I got to Maine two days ago. Yesterday my truck would not go out of park. The transmission is fine, but there is a problem with the linkage allowing it to go out of park. I got the vehicle towed to an auto repair shop from a good ole boys club type thing. You know, a guy that has a friend that knows somebody. Obviously I don't know anyone here. Anyways, after two days of it being here it's not looking promising. The conversation started off by someone telling me they had trouble moving my truck to the lift and dented my tailgate in the process. It's fairly severe, to the point where it would have to be replaced. Secondly, he can't identify the part number, but one of his friends 1.5 hours away might have the part of be able to work on the one I have currently. I have to be at work Monday and am in a bind. What's the best way to bring up the tail gate situation? I would assume he has insurance for that. I was going to wait until after the truck was fixed to address it. I might have to catch a flight home Sunday and then come back up just to get my vehicle. So I hope everyone else's Christmas is going better than mine.

What I would probably do is have them write you a check for the damage. Then get a rental (one way) with a hitch and trailer and tow it home. Assuming that's an option. No idea really but I see uhauls towing vehicles often so assume it is.

I didn't think of that. That might work. I got a good mechanic in VA beach too. I guess then I have partially worked on dinged up truck we would have to hash out.

If the place has good customer service they'll give you 15% off your next purchase with them for denting up your tailgate.

Sure it's the linkage and not the neutral safety switch?

You can check that by turning the key to where it unlocks the

column-on or acc but not start-and see if you can shift it.

If that's it you should be able to find a youtube video on how to

bypass that and drive the truck

Is it one of those mechanics that also has a convenience store b/c maybe they can give you some beef jerky or copenhagen.

Yeah we tried that and unfortunately that didn't work. We have it apart and know the issue so I'm heading out early in the morning to try and get the part to fix it.
