Sucks that Chester left STP since it's looked like he was doing a great job.
Chester is the man and with all due respect to Weiland and the guys in this thread ready to pounce on my next statement......Linkin Park made better music than STP.
:lmao:
Yes, better. Granted, it's a different type of music....sort of....but better overall.

I can understand where all the hate comes from. For one, LP was more popular in the mainstream/top 40 crowd and without looking up the numbers, I think they sold quite a bit more records in their career. Secondly, their music style is rock/rap. If you hate rap and are strictly rock/alternative, I can understand why LP isn't your cup of tea.

I was with her until she said he liked to watch Notre Dame.
His grandfather played for ND back in the 40s or somewhere around then. He used to hop into local places and play shows unannounced around campus.

I liked a lot of his music, but not terribly surprised to read the note from his ex. It's sad to see what addiction does to far too many families.

selling more records doesnt make you better ....

in what way is linkin park superior?

singing? nope

musical work? not even close

linkin park besides some nice singing is terrible.

deleo brothers with their ragtime influence and funk/jazz/blues musical work is brilliant.

I was never a giant fan of STP (Weiland was good, but I liked other bands better), but I never could stand Linkin Park. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the lead singer is named Chester Bennington.

CHESTER ####### BENNINGTON.

Did he grow up in a mansion with a stodgy English butler and a wisecracking black maid?

From Wikipedia...

Bennington was born in Phoenix, Arizona. His mother was a nurse, while his father was a police detective who worked with child sex abuse cases[2] and took double shifts.[3] Bennington took interest in music at a young age, citing Depeche Mode and Stone Temple Pilots as early inspirations[4] and dreamed of becoming a member of Stone Temple Pilots.[5]

Bennington's parents divorced when he was 11 years old and his father gained custody of him.[3] As a result of the divorce, Bennington started abusing marijuana, alcohol, opium, cocaine, methamphetamine,[4][6] and LSD.[3] He eventually overcame his drug addiction, and would go on to denounce drug use in future interviews.[7] During a Linkin Park tour, he started heavily drinking[2] but claimed to have quit in 2011, noting, "I just don't want to be that person anymore."[8]

In an interview, Bennington revealed that he suffered sexual abuse from an older male friend when he was seven years old.[8] He was afraid to ask for help because he did not want people to think he was gay or lying, and the abuse continued until age 13.[3] The abuse and situation at home affected him so much that he felt the urge to kill and run away.[3] To comfort himself, he drew pictures and wrote poetry and songs.[3] Later, he revealed the abuser's identity to his father, but chose not to continue the case after he realized the abuser was a victim himself.[6]

At the age of 17, Bennington moved in with his mother and was banned from leaving the house when his mother discovered his drug activity.[3] He worked at a Burger King and used his money for cocaine and crystal meth[9] before starting his career as a professional musician.[4] He was physically bullied in high school. In an interview, he said, "I was knocked around like a rag doll at school for being skinny and looking different."[10][11]

Noah and Lucy never sought perfection from their dad. They just kept hoping for a little effort. If you're a parent not giving your best effort, all anyone asks is that you try just a little harder and don't give up. Progress, not perfection, is what your children are praying for. Our hope for Scott has died, but there is still hope for others. Let's choose to make this the first time we don't glorify this tragedy with talk of rock and roll and the demons that, by the way, don't have to come with it. Skip the depressing T-shirt with 1967-2015 on it – use the money to take a kid to a ballgame or out for ice cream.

RIP

Loved STP, saw them live at their peak and they were great.

Too bad Weiland couldn't shake his addictions......he was a great frontman and truly entertaining to watch.

I listed like 10 songs earlier in the thread that I thought were a good encapsulation of his talent.

Then I realized there are like 10 others.

GD this band was good.

Also, I know I'll get killed for this, but take the Open Letter from his wife with a grain of salt. Not that she doesn't have good points or feel that her perspective is valuable to be out there, but she married Weiland in 2000, well after the height of his success, well after the world knew that he was battling these demons. If the stories re: his treatment of his children are 100% true, than I empathize with her, but I have a hard time understanding she knew nothing of his lifestyle, character and addiction before marrying him in 2000 (which, by all accounts was because he was famous rockstar guy)

Outside of the stage the guy was a piece of trash but cash is king and babies bring it

I thought this was done a little too soon. Drag his name in the mud when his friends and family at least had some time to mourn. I remember him on Howard stern and he looked miserable. Was tired of the road, his throat was killing him, but he had to keep up with those 60k a month alimony payments. No wonder she's bitter, her golden goose died.

Um, he stopped paying child support a while ago...

I can empathize with her pain and I feel for those kids, but this is really bad form. Air your dirty laundry if you must, but wait until the body is cold for crissakes. Masking it as a cautionary tale comes off pretty weak and transparent also.
I'm guessing she's earned the right to say whatever she wants when she wants. Sounds like he put her and their kids through hell so I've got no problem with her dragging him through the mud. Sounds like he deserved it.

She can do a cover story in RS in a few months and expound for 20 pages for all I care. Now's not the time.

My drunk STP rankings:

1. Wicked Garden

2. Interstate Love Song

3. Sex Type Thing

4. Vasoline

5. Crackerman (underrated)
thank you for this, forgot how awesome crackerman is. Frequent show opener and arguably their best song live. We saw them on a tour with Godsmack and Disturbed and wondered how they would do with that crowd. They came out with that one and instantly grabbed the entire arena by the balls. Top notch performance.
