FOUR HOURS UNTIL GOD'S GAME STARTS! (1 Viewer)

Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring. ~Rogers Hornsby

I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game. It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us. ~Walt Whitman

That's just the way it isSome things will never change

That's just the way it is

Oh, but don't you believe them

...the windup and a 2-2 pitch. Oh, no, wait a minute, the batter is calling for time. Looks like he's going to get himself a new bat. And now there's a beach ball on the field, and the balls boys are discussing which one of them's going to go get it.

Good stuff. Baseball Stadiums are the sports chapels of America.

...Ramirez is 7 of 26 against right-handers whose names end in vowels. Here's the pitch. Fouled off into stands behind home plate. Just a reminder that Rancher Bob all-beef hot links are official frank of the...

OOo...a whole chapel?!?
Baseball is a spiritual experience. Don't hate...celebrate.

Just get down to a game, Brother. Dip yourself in that cleansing water. That'll be all the explanation.

Ok, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker

going here, two down, nobody on, no score,

bottom of the ninth, there's the wind-up and

there it is, a line shot up the middle, look

at him go. This boy can really fly!

He's rounding first and really turning it on

now, he's not letting up at all, he's gonna

try for second; the ball is bobbled out in center,

and here comes the throw, and what a throw!

He's gonna slide in head first, here he comes, he's out!

No, wait, safe--safe at second base, this kid really

makes things happen out there.

Batter steps up to the plate, here's the pitch--

he's going, and what a jump he's got, he's trying

for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt--

safe at third! Holy cow, stolen base!

He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost

daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher

glance over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted

down the third base line, the suicide squeeze in on!

Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close,

here's the throw, there's the play at the plate,

holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!

The Columbus Clippers are now the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.

And in less than 2 weeks they'll have their home opener in a brand spanking new beautiful stadium in the downtown arena district across the street from the Blue Jackets arena.

Life is good.

:bag:

P.S. What the hell is the matter with the FFA mods?... a single thread about the joy of the start of baseball season can only exist in the baseball forum?

That's just dumb.

I don't know. Maybe he was picked last and had to play right...or he wasn't paying attention at a game and got hit by a foul ball.

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.

PLAY BALL!!!

Thank God baseball is here. My draft was three weeks ago and it's been murder waiting. I've purposely not come into this forum because it was annoying the wait and with my draft over there was nothing to talk about until opening day.

I'm looking forward to a very very interesting year for the entire league.
