Fred Davis Thoughts? (1 Viewer)

Fred Davis is a solid TE play - this was the first time a Shanny team put up a doughnut.Davis has the hightest chance of scoring each week imo.
Agreed; Davis too solid of a play to bench, unless you're rolling out an elite TE.
I agree too. I think what we will see is more conservative numbers until the fourth quarter of games. By the 4th quarter, the Skins should be playing from behind and defenses will look to stop the big play and be content with Davis making catches underneath. Davis's yardage should stay solid but his TDs might be limited due to defenses focusing on keeping the Skins in front of them.

Nice call. Davis was shutout basically the whole game while it mattered. I watched the whole thing and he dropped an easy one in the 1st half. Beck also was targeting him on a corner route that got picked. After that he pretty much stopped getting thrown at until the last drive where he salvaged an average day. I did see a few plays where he broke open but Beck was already committed to another receiver or was checking down already. I don't know what 49ers rank vs TEs are, but they did a nice job with Willis, Bowman or a safety always around him. I expect better days ahead.

So Helu got 14 targets yesterday...was this gameplan or is Beck becoming the new captain checkdown?
Captain Checkdown. There were multiple times Redskins receivers were breaking open down field and Beck didn't let the play develop. He might be getting a bit gun shy now. Put Rexy back in.

Is Davis likely to decline now with Grossman back and Helu more in the game plan?
I think Rex looks his way more often. But Davis isn't doing his part with drops. I'm not as high on Davis as I was just a few weeks ago. Still I don't see the Skins being very competitive in many games so they should be passing a lot.

Sure, but teams will also be able to key on Davis completely. He's our only weapon now, because with a shotty offensive line, Helu scares no one. With Moss, Hankerson, Hightower, and Cooley all out, Davis is the only threat to defenses.

In theory yes that is correct. It doesn't mean they will just not cover Gaffney, Armstrong or whoever they put out there. It means Davis will deal with more attention some of the time, but if he's as good as he thinks he is, he should be able to still get his. Teams will still respect the playaction for a second and that should be enough for Davis to break free. If he doesn't drop some of the passes he has been recently maybe his QBs will go back to him more often.

I'm trying to trade him, Ford and Helu currently for Hern...I just don't like the direction the Skins are going. They are in Cleveland territory of futility.
