more carries but no FB....

There's a good chance the list of Jaguars out for the season could grow.

Coach Jack Del Rio said on his radio show Tuesday that running back Fred Taylor could be placed on injured reserve because of a thumb injury suffered Sunday at Chicago. In addition, the club will place fullback Greg Jones (ankle) on injured reserve and is considering a similar move for receiver Jerry Porter, who suffered a strained groin against the Bears.

To fill holes in the roster, the club plans to bring in former Jaguars running backs LaBrandon Toefield and Alvin Pearman today for workouts.

I don't get to watch the Jags hardly ever, but I thought Jones hasn't played hardly at all over the last three years anyway. Definately could be wrong, though. As a MJD owner, I'm happy about this.

No Taylor, no Matt Jones, no fullback & a decimated offensive line.

MJD is going to get more touches but 11 defenders are going to be tracking his every move.

Should be interesting.

Of course this happens after Im out of the playoffs (2 weeks ago this might have been great...MJD gets the TD rather than Taylor against Houston and Im golden...yeah I know

I play him this week, so of course this happens. I agree with you on the injuries, but the fact is Green Bay is not good at stopping the run, and MJD should see more passes out of the backfield as well. I actually picked up Mercedes Lewis in one of my league, based on the injuries to Taylor and Porter, and the suspension of Jones. They have to throw someone the ball.

 :lmao:

The only time the Jags use their fullback is in goalline/short yardage situations. And the O-line is actually getting healthier.

I expect big things from MJD this week.

They use him to open holes, don't they? Or is he simply a short-yardage specialist in their offense? I don't get to watch them much.

I haven't seen many Jags games...can anyone confirm this? I thought they ran out of the I formation a lot. But maybe they run double TE sets and single back formations. Losing your FB can be very bad (see LT2). Trying to decide between MJD and Pierre Thomas...any info would be great.

I'm definitely not an expert on the Jags, so I could be wrong, but from what I remember they use a lot of single back and shotgun formations with either double tight or three receivers. This is definitely the case on passing downs.Either way, MJD with 20+ touches vs. the Packers is almost a lock for 100 total yards and a score.

ETA: Jones was inactive last week as well and MJD did well against a better run defense than the Packers.

As horrible as the green bay D has been recently, this must be a good start from a FF perspective. Woodson could return an int for a TD here.

MJD is going to get plenty of opportunities but the Packers defensive game plan has to be something like:

"Okay you 10 guys follow MJD wherever he goes and the 11th guy follow MJD but keep one eye on Garrard."

As much as MJD was involved in the passing game WITH Freddy, you have to think he will be getting close to 30 touches WITHOUT Freddy. I mean, he's the only option they have now. You have to think 20-25 rushes, and another 8-10 receptions aren't out of the question for him.

A lot of us have been waiting a loooong time to see what he could do in the lead roll, but Freddy has been relatively non fragile until now.

Beautiful! Chaka, I'm writing up an article on MJD this week. Could I get your permission to use that?

Taylor's thumb to end his season?

Fred Taylor, RB JAC

News: The Jaguars might be without running back Fred Taylor for the rest of the season. Taylor was getting a second opinion on his injured left thumb Wednesday before deciding whether to go on injured reserve. Taylor tore ligaments in his thumb Sunday at Chicago. The thumb was purple, red and swollen at first, but Taylor said it has gotten consider better since and felt like a bad sprain. He said he would like to play vs. the Packers on Sunday, especially because this could be his final season in Jacksonville, but doesn't want to do anything that would make the injury worse.

I'm a big fan of Fred Taylor and his success, but as an owner of MJD this couldn't have happened at a more perfect time. Chooo chooo!!

(TheHuddle) Updating a previous report, The Associated Press reports Jacksonville Jaguars RB Fred Taylor will miss the rest of the season after tearing ligaments in his left thumb during Week 14. Taylor will undergo season-ending surgery on the thumb and will be placed on Injured Reserve.

Analysis: It's not as if the Jags are still in the hunt, and Taylor sought multiple opinions before hanging it up for the year. Maurice Jones-Drew will get the bulk of the carries the rest of the way, especially with Greg Jones also on IR. Given his age, his salary, and his declining role in the Jacksonville offense Taylor may have played his final game in teal and black.
