Free Agent Defenses To Be Targeted (1 Viewer)

Can you guys think of team defenses that are most likely on most league's waiver wire that should be targeted for the remainder of the season? Weak offensive opponents and such?

2 obvious choices are those that play vs. OAK & HOU at some point.

This team probably isn't available in most Waiver pools, but you might be able to trade for them.

If you can ride out the next three weeks (Bye, @SEA, NE) the Minnesota defense faces this "murderer's row" through the end of the fantasy playoffs (wks 9-16): @SF, GB, @Mia, Ari, @Chi, @Det, NYJ, @GB.

KC has several tough matchups (Den, SD, etc) but also faces Mia, Cle, and Oak twice including week 16.

The Jets have a number of nice matchups starting against Det this week. If you have a week 17 championship, they play oakland at home that week.

Giants Defense has been looking better and face Tampa and Houston back to back at home in weeks 8 & 9. May make for a nice short term filler D.

:blackdot:

Great thread for those of us who didn't spend the early pick on a stud defense.

As for me, I began the season with the Chase Stuart-recommended "Defensive Team By Committee" of New England and Miami, but I lost patience with them. While solid as NFL defenses, they weren't producing the sacks and turnovers that fantasy football demands. I waived them both, in favor of the Chiefs after they manhandled the 49ers in week 4.

Needless to say, the -1 point the Chiefs posted last week for me against the Steelers has me questioning whether to stick with them or not. Our scoring system penalizes for points allowed.

KC is one that I like for future value ... I picked them up as a filler and for that sweet week 16 matchup at home vs OAK ... others I see promise for in upcoming weeks are the NYG, MIN and NE ... most of whom are WW available

For this week I'm all over the Cardinals D vs Oakland
:thumbup:Someone in one of my leagues used this ploy since their D (the Bears) are on bye. I am genuinely scared of the defensive fantasy numbers AZ might put up against Oakland - they have good pass rushers and the Raiders can't protect the QB - 6 sacks or more is not out of the question

I've got Minny and Cincy

Would you drop Cincy for NYG? NYJ?

Minn NYG NYJ

7 Sea Dal Det

8 NE TB Clev

9 SF Hou bye

10 GB Chi NE

11 Mia Jax Chi

12 AZ TN Hou

13 Chi Dal GB

14 Det Car Buff

15 NYJ Philly Minn

16 GB NO Mia

I will probably try to follow Oakland around each week in one league and try to pick up the defense playing them each week. I would think 2-3 turnovers and 3-4 sacks each week might be realistic.

What? you expect us all to remember the rest of the Cincy sched?

Going on memory ....

Buffalo is at home for weeks 15 and 16 - Miami and Tennessee respectively.

I try not to buy into cliches, but I really like the Buffalo D against a weak, warm-weather, offensive team in the midst of December.

Plus, as an owner, I hope all those high defensive draft picks will begin to mature, right about this time.

:goodposting: I picked up KC to cover a bye week with the Falcons. We are only allowed 7 moves all season, and I was going to drop one of these two defenses week 9. I was thinking it was going to be KC I dropped, but I am starting to think they are worth keeping down the stretch. Doesn't Baltimore (wk14) and SD (wk15) make them a risk unless you have someone else to play?

I have dropped to 5-5 in my league (mainly due to injuries but also other things - I am eating cheese with my 'wine')...anyway I am taking the Defense by Committee approach to a little extreme for the rest of the season...

11 KC vs Oak

12 NYG vs Ten or Cin vs Cle

13 KC vs Cle

Playoffs:

14 Cin vs Oak or Sea vs Ari

15 StL vs Oak

16 KC vs Oak

17 Sea vs TB

While Cin has potentially some better matchups in week 12 and 14, I'm not sure about the Cin defense even against Cle or Oak right now...

I pretty much just look at sacks allowed and interceptions thrown and fumbles lost when I evaluate teams that would be optimal to play your defense against. In my league it is 1, 2, & 2 respectively for points. I try not to predict the occasional return for a TD. That said, only 4 teams were on the top 10 of each category.

Oakland

Cleveland

Detroit

Pittsburgh

It would really depend on how your particular scores the turnovers and such but I see a combo of Arizona and St. Louis being a viable committee approach (based on waiver wire type teams).

w11 Arizona vs. Detroit

w12 St. Louis vs. San Fran

w13 St. Louis vs. Arizona

w14 Arizona vs. Seattle (top 10 in sacks allowed and interceptions)

w15 St. Louis at Oakland

w16 Arizona at San Fran

Just some info for discussion.

I picked up the Chiefs, the Rams, and the Jets as my defenses for the rest of the season. Why? I'm almost guaranteed to get into the playoffs, and those three teams play Oakland during the playoffs.

Plus they have some nice matchups between now and then anyway.

TB vs Jason Campbell and no Portis seems juicy this week - even on a short week.
Exactly.Tampa Bay offense isn't good, meaning the defense will take the field more often I think. Campbell will make mistakes, no Portis is good, even though Betts isn't a bad RB, he aint no Portis.I'm starting TB Defense over Denvers Defense this week, I figure TB will get 2-3 INT's and FF's and it'll be a low scoring affair

I'm picking up Cincy today eventhough they were torched in the 2nd half last week.

I now have KC, StL and Cincy and the rest of my match ups are:

Week 11 - vs OAK (KC)

Week 12 - @ CLE (CIN)

Week 13 - @ CLE (KC)

Week 14 - vs OAK (CIN)

Week 15 - @ OAK (STL)

Week 16 - @ OAK (KC)

:banned:

My entire playoofs are going to be against Oak :D

With all of the injuries the Giants have suffered lately, would you consider dropping them for the Bills at this point?

Buffalo has a much better schedule for the playoffs (Miami & Tenn have to go there in Dec). So I would make that move.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the Bills? They're done with NE and have the IND matchup out of the way. They're 12th in my league in scoring right now and their schedule is very nice -- HOU this week, two decent matchups coming with JAX and NYJ and only one really bad matchup vs SD. Then in the playoffs, they have MIA and TEN at home (weeks 15/16).But they're not even among the top 20 defences in the Top 250 Forward. What am I missing?
