Friend Moving to Cleveland--advice? (1 Viewer)

lol--besides "Don't", I suppose! :D

A friend I work with has been offered a position which sounds worthwhile, but it would be a big step and she's worried about it of course. She is well established in her career here, has family who would presumably stay so she'd be commuting back on weekends. She's real concerned with what she's read about crime, and imagines living in an apartment with protected parking, looking in town or maybe on the edge so commute would be minimized. She's not excited about serious winter weather after coming from the relatively mild Carolina climate. Likes what she's seen of the Lake, and is really looking for town attractions including dining, museums, arts & theater...I don't know about sports so much but maybe....

Any local advice? Starting with a safe and comfortable residence convenient to downtown; and despite the expectation that she'd be "back home" every week I suspect she would not be commuting more than every other weekend or less once she's settled in. I would say she's pretty cosmopolitan despite being real comfortable around these parts!

TIA--I told her this place is the best jumping off point there is for info! I'll check in and out...

I would suggest Tremont or Ohio City, both almost downtown but safer. Near West Side. Plenty of entertainment. World class theater district as well as museums. Weather is not great in the winter. That wind off the lake can be extremely cold. Will avoid most of the snow if she is downtown or on the west side of town.

Sounds like you and Doc Holliday are both pointing the same direction--thanks!

Going from Carolina to Cleveland? Leaving a family behind? Her husband better start hiding money. Unless this is a 1 year stepping stone and then she is back to the south with a big promotion and salary bump there is no reason to do this. If she is dead set on it she will be fine (other than potential family issues). Cleveland is a pretty neat town, lots to do and good people.

Not a problem! The family has long been well traveled.
