Fumbling the ball backwards (1 Viewer)

This happened in the Jags game. Fred Taylor got hit at the line of scrimmage and the ball popped out and went 21 yards backwards and he got credited with a -21 yard run. Is this right?

i didnt think fumbled yards counted unless the fumbler recovered it.

Yes, but guidelines for recording statistics isn't covered in the rule book.
