Galloway Signs With Patriots (1 Viewer)

The guy had over 1000 yards and 6 TD's as a 36 year old. No reason to think he can't do that in a FAR superior offense, even as the WR3. With the attention Moss gets, you can expect Galloway to get quite a few TD's and yardage.

The more I think I about it, the better I feel snagging Galloway late in drafts and watching him perform as a solid WR3 with a decent ceiling.

I think 60 receptions, 1000 yards and 6 TD's is realistic thanks to Moss being on the opposite side.

are the Pats getting ready to throw the ball all over the field in 09 like they did in 07MossWelkerLewisGalloway
What exactly about those names makes you think "all over the field" ?
like they have been a running team over the past 2 years. they are a pass first team
That was the point I was tryng to bring up. Lewis and Galloway don't change anything, just other pieces but no real upgrade over Gaffney and whoever else. Brady will throw for 4000+

There are not enough balls in this offense for those kind of numbers for Galloway unless Moss or Welker miss a significant amount of time. His stat line will look alot like Stallworths did in 2007 46/697/3

This signing is more noteworthy for the name recognition than for what it means to the Patriots. As Chase mentioned, 38-year old receivers, even formerly great ones, just don't produce. I know the Pats have a way of getting production out of guys most couldn't, and I wouldn't discount Galloway from having a surprisingly strong year as a WR3/WR4 in their offense, but I think, to be fair, this is a minor ripple on the fantasy landscape. For redrafters, Galloway probably ranks as a late end game pick in 12-team leagues [assuming of course nothing happens to Moss or Welker before draft time]. And for dynasty leaguers, I would think Galloway has almost no discernible value.

A 38-year old receiver has broke 200 yards receiving only nine times in NFL history, and five of those came from the G.O.A.T.

NAME POS YR AGE EXP G REC RECYD YD/REC RECTD FANT PT1 Jerry Rice wr 1998 36 14 16 82 1157 14.11 9 169.705 Joey Galloway wr 2007 36 13 15 57 1014 17.79 6 137.50Rice had the best season by a 36 year old WR (with Steve Young at QB) and Galloway had the 5th best with a combination of Garcia and Luke McCown throwing the ball. Now with Galloway on one of best offenses in the league, I expect him to do slightly better than Stallworth in 2007 - 50/700/5. That would put him around WR36 in PPR and doesn't account for what he'd be able to put up if Moss or Welker were to get injured.

It is all well and good to look at age and say that players can't perform after a certain point. But if you dig a little deeper you see an athlete who still has deep speed that 1. keeps himself in tremendous shape2. has a top 2 QB throwing him the ball.3. has weapons like Welker and Watson to draw coverage underneath.4. has Randy Moss to draw the deep safety to the other side of the field.5. has a good running game to draw safeties in.6. has an offense that just 2 years ago put up record breaking numbers.7. has a head coach that likes to run up the score. Those are all possitive things. But add in that he will be playing in a division that hasn't played against him since 2005 and I see real possibilities. Now throw all of this out if he comes into training camp missing time due to muscle strains or whatever or if Brady limps in to the season but if the guys come in healthy Galloway will put up 500 yards 5 tds easily. That being said,I think the main benefactors will be Moss, Welker and Brady.
Don't mistake what I'm saying. Galloway is a solid, smart signing for New England. But we also have to remember it's March. I wouldn't be shocked if they cut Galloway before the season starts, or I wouldn't be surprised if he was the WR3 all year long. And yes, if he's the WR3 all year long I could see him putting up 500-600 yards and a handful of TDs in that offense.

galloway's 37.

he's old enough --- you don't need to tack that extra year on there to make some point.

and that 'pass happy' offense of 2 yrs ago was largely circumstantial.

I'm not saying they won't be throwing the ball, but don't look at '07 and think that's what they want to do every year.

Any Galloway news to report out of NE?
Nothing major...just typical training camp stuff. Right now the papers are saying he and Greg Lewis are both vying for the #3 WR spot. I've also heard he still has the wheels even though he's getting up there in age. One thing of note...I've heard Chris Baker has looked real good and is connecting with Brady. I think that's something to watch. Brady hasn't had a TE he could really trust in quite a few years. Both Watson and Graham have dropped their fair share of catchable balls over the years. If Brady ever gets a TE he can rely on that's a player that could put up some sneaky numbers. Nothing crazy but definetly enough to hurt any chance a #3 WR has to be fantasy relevant.

Gratzi!
