Gambled on Standby and Lost (1 Viewer)

At least Pappas has the food service here. Just had a nice late lunch crawfish salad at Pappadeaux.

But sitting in the pay-as-you-go massage chairs without paying and shaking around like I'm having a seizure is not nearly as amusing sober. And it kinda hurts.

Don't tell @fantasycurse42 about travel problems as his decision was already made for him...…... ;)
To this day I don't know what standby is. I guess I understand the concept, but I don't know how to buy it or who would buy it or how it truly works (like what happens to OP; now he just sits there until there is a vacancy on a flight?).

Hobby Airport sounds like it should be fun, filled with model train sets and airplane kits to put together
Hobby Lobby Airport, however, sounds like a constrained form of influenza fun, constantly winds up in court and raises their prices because of their losses therefrom.

I am not quite sure either.  I know it is supposed to be cheaper and I think employees affiliated with the airlines can get these type flights for free.  It seems that if you fly standby you are basically hoping people don't show for their flight and you hop on in their place so you are stuck at the airport until there is an open seat on a flight heading to where you wanna go....

I’ve never understood this either.

Bucky's right. I'm booked to leave at 7:30 but finished my business early and came to the airport in hopes of getting on an earlier flight.

Update - the mamava station makes a great private and quiet little workspace. A little awkward but overall worth it.
This thread accomplished 2 things for me. I learned where Hobby Airport is, and what a mamava station is.

educational.

Update - the sports kiosk guy is not interested in selling Astros gear at a discount "because they're cheating cheaters who cheat".

I decided not to look up this term and instead stick with the funny thought of bearded Ron Swanson sitting alone in a lactation station that was given a cutesie name of Mamava Station

I grew up an airline brat in Miami. Dad worked for Eastern Airlines. We could fly standby anywhere Eastern flew for just the tax price. I had a younger brother and sister and sometimes we would even split up to get to our destination. I spent the night in Atlanta's airport in 1968 when I was only 10 years old with my younger sister, just the two of us- our parents were on another flight behind us. We eventually hopped a flight back to Miami in the early AM.

Now a days, the flights are so full that standby really sucks and you're probably gonna be standing by for awhile...

Update - the guy next to me made eye contact and gave me a curt nod when he left. I responded in kind.

I have to admit, it was a little weird when he first climbed in the mamava with me, but he turned out to be an acceptably stoic hut-mate.

Made it on the plane. And dodged "Hoss" according to the name tag on his Disciples shirt from sitting next to me. Life is good.

Brutally cold. Mid 50's outside. Yesterday was worse. 40's with drizzle all day. In the airport isn't bad. I'd guess 70.
It was mid 50s here yesterday and everyone was talking about how nice a day it was. If it was mid 50s in July everyone would be saying it's brutally cold.

At least you found Pappadeaux. Great food.
