Game Thread - Cardinals at Titans (1 Viewer)

Good pass by Kolb to Steve Skelton down the middle....Skelton juggled and dropped it (Steve's the younger brother of QB Skelton)

Powell with another good run down to the 5 yard line. As another poster said, would have been great to seem him earlier against the 1st string defense...he's looking really good out there right now

Lindley fade pass to Floyd in the corner of the endzone, but Floyd just misses it.

Powell punches it in from the 5 for a TD....

BRB going to roster Powell in all my leagues.
Yes, he's looking really good, just wonder if he'd be that good against 1st string defense....24 years old, looks like he wasn't drafted and MFL shows that he has 2 years of experience, but I see no stats from him for past seasons?

Powell has been very elusive and also has ran through light contact which is great. I don't follow IDP much so I don't really know if the guys he's running through right now are scrubs or legit....

Someone please explain to me why any Cards WR is 20 yards down field on a pass route with the O-Line as bad as it is? I'm talking on passing plays. Makes no damn sense to me when the QB has 2 seconds to get rid of it?!

Javaris James ran about 8 yards in for a TD.....he ran through one defender at the end. This actually makes me think that the quality of the Tenn D on the field right now is really bad and that all the Powell domination we saw earlier might just be against a lot weaker competition...

He was an undrafted rookie in 2011 out of Kansas State from what I can see. His preseason stats have been pretty killer from what I can see so far this year..Against the Saints: 10 for 31 and caught 3 more for 26Against KC he was 9 for 92 and a TD and caught one ball for 9 more yards.Oakland was 7 for 37 and a TD. Caught a ball for 5 yards.Tonight he's 7 for 71 and a TD It might be nothing but that's 33 carries for 237 yards and 3 Touchdowns. Plus 5 catches for another 40 yards. That's 7.18 yards per carry.

For those interested in the history of Powell's NFL career...

Was undrafted and signed by the Cardinals in August of 11. In September they released him. In December of 2011 they signed him to their practice squad where he finished out the year. In January he was signed to a futures contract. It has recently been reported that he has been having a very strong camp and pushing Alfonso Smith for a roster spot.

I understand that this guy is likely nothing. He's buried in the depth chart and has looked great against the second/third string, but I like what I see. He is incredibly elusive and picks up a lot of yards after contact.

Ok, scrubs in so game basically over. For what it's worth, my impressions:

AZ:

Oline is horrible and is the source of a lot of their problems. Doesn't really matter which QB is in when you only have 0.5 seconds to throw the ball or get flushed out of the pocket. Will be a really rough year for all AZ offensive players if they can't fix the oline.

Kolb - didn't play that well with 2 interceptions, but was actually 17/22. I actually think he makes pretty good decisions when he has time to pass in the pocket. Not as strong an arm as Skelton, but actually seems to go through progressions and targets the open receiver.

Skelton - will probably end up starting after Kolb's two picks, but wasn't that great himself. Stronger arm and makes bullet throws. However, (and I haven't watched Skelton that much, so take with a grain of salt), he seems to not go through his progressions and targets his first WR regardless of how crowded it is or well-covered the WR is. So, while he has a stronger arm and makes laser throws, he needs to work on decision making and go through progressions to find the open receiver (or, the oline just needs to give him more time)

Beanie/Williams - didn't do too much...once again the oline gave them no chance to really get anything going

William Powell - a RB to keep an eye on. 24 years old, undrafted in 2011 and was tearing it up in the 3rd/4th quarter. Elusive with yards after contact...very impressive, but I don't think he was playing against 1st stringers on defense so would need to see more from him against better competition before endorsing.

Fitz - beast as always, but when the oline gives Kolb/Skelton no time to throw he doesn't get targeted much (actually Kolb targeted him more because it seems that when Kolb had some time to throw he could actually find and target Fitz or progress down to get the ball to Fitz)

M. Floyd - targeted several times and make a couple good side-line catches. Had one potential TD catch in the corner of the endzone that he just missed. Overall pretty good, but probably could have been more aggressive on the fade pass in the endzone.

Tenn:

Locker - stats look good, but he doesn't really throw many passes longer than 10 yards. On the TD throws, one was Kendall Wright doing all the work by catching about 10 yards out, avoiding a tackle and running in. Right now I see him as a solid back-up QB, but doesn't look like he has elite upside due to inability/no desire to throw long passes to attack all areas of the field.

Kendall Wright - looked very good.....as mentioned previously had elusiveness and picked up yardage after the catch. Also had a 'my ball' attitude and actually (IMO) saved Locker from a pick earlier by turning back on a slightly underthrown pass and grabbing the ball from over the defender.

Cook - had one nice 35 yard catch on a bullet from Locker up the middle (probably Locker's most impressive throw). He could be really good if targeted more, but not sure that it will happen that much.

Chris Johnson - I don't think he did that well....two things worry me: 1) Because Locker hasn't gotten to the point of throwing longer passes and opening up the field the defense can compress more and make it harder for someone like CJ consistently pick up good yardage on runs. Everytime CJ was tackled it was by about 2-3 guys. The majority of CJ's runs were probably less than 2 yards and he had two decent 8-10 yard runs to bring his total up (13 rushes for 27 yards). 2) Because it seems like right now Locker is just getting to his first read and then running outside of the pocket if that person isn't open it seems like there just aren't many dump off passes to CJ. Also, for some reason it seems that Tenn isn't drawing up many pass plays to CJ (just one target to CJ tonight that I saw). The good thing is that Ringer didn't actually get much time tonight so it doesn't seem like Tenn is worried about CJ and thinking about benching him or RBBCing him like they did for a while last year.

Fitz is such a professional. Sideline interview he talks of taking personal accountability as a WR. I'm worried he doesn't acquire the requisite stats to make the HOF when he is obviously physically qualified. That would be a shame!

Just a couple more years anywhere near his career averages and he's a lock.
