Game Thread - CHI @ SD (1 Viewer)

Oh well, Bear D was absolutely awesome today. Just couldnt expect them to survive all those turnovers against a solid offense.

Bears' defense played well enough to win, but they kept shooting themselves in the foot with all the turnovers and lack of a running game. Chargers had a lot of lucky breaks but their defense played great as well and they did just enough on offense at key moments. If you saw the play on Mike Brown's injury, he was clearly horse-collared by Neal and should've been flagged. I don't believe Brown is brittle at all, he just has bad luck with freak injuries.

Bears will come back strong next week and stomp the Chiefs, book it.

Joe Buck is blaming the loss on the Bears' inability to run the ball. Then the producers throw up a graphic about how the Bears have 20 more rushing yards than the Chargers.
Chi lost this game on TOs. Plan and simple. They gave up the ball at the SD 48, their own 29, their own 32 and their own 40. All of SDs points came off of those TOs and you just can't put a team as good as SD (let alone any team) in scoring position that often and expect to win.
All CHI's point were off TO's as well if I recall correctly. So if it weren't for TO's they wouldn't have scored at all.

I guess LT's commercial wasn't enough bulletin board material for the Bears.
And the biggest talker in that whole thing was Urlacher. I barely heard his name called, finished with just 5 tackles.
Next commercial will feature LT spiking the ball at Urlacher's feet.
:hifive:
I'm sure Nike is rejoicing that they can save some money by just using actual game footage this time around.

Those last 3 runs directly at the pile by Benson and Peterson got me really ticked off.
I don't blame you. It was crappy playcalling, and also crappy O-line play.
SD D is tough but what really had me mad was that those runs were timid. Benson doesn't usually make people miss, he uses power. All three runs were tiptoing to the line with no power, including Peterson's.

As bad as the Chargers have looked, I am not looking forward to then facing New England next week.
NE's D isn't nearly as dominant. They are good, but Chicago is the only truly elite team D this season.
You do realize NE was playing without 2 of their best defensive players this week, right? Just curious how you're making an accurate assessment of NE's defensive prowess

The Bears D stifled the Chargers all day. If they do not turn the ball over thanks to pure stupidity (Benson & AP) and bad luck (the ST punt turn over), the Bears Win. The Chargers had no answer to the Bears today....none.

Feel the same way. Dont feel like we lost to a better team by any means. Beat ourselves is more like it. That stupidity and carelessness can and will be fixed.

Well, let's see....SD had more 1st downsSD had more yardsSD had a better 3rd down %SD had fewer penaltiesSD had fewer turnoversoh yeah, and SD had more points.... other than that the Bears dominated the Chargers today. "The Chargers had no answer to the Bears today....none".This entire thread is like a SNL skit that some people are taking seriously.

Was very impressed with the Bears today even in a loss. Their D looks totally awesome. As of right now they are definitely the team to beat in the NFC. It's hard to get a read on their offense though. I mean, they were on the road against a really good D. I'll give them a pass this week. But like we were going back and forth with in the other thread, against good teams the Bears just simply can't score enough points.

Other than scoring more points and winning the game, they had no answer.
Come on now, the Chargers offense and the Bears offense were absolutely owned all game long. The game, between two powerhouses, came down to a couple of fluke TO's, and the best team won. Rivers and Grossman looked the same, and LT was will never be shut-down like that again.

Maybe that changes in a month. Right now it's Chicago and noone else.

Noone dominated, but the better team won. Your offense sucks.

If the Bears stay relatively healthy, they will easily be the NFC rep in the SB....there is no team in the NFC even close to the Bears

The Aints, Eagles, Rams, Seahawks etc showed me nothing that worries me. Again, staying healthy is the key though.

You can argue the Chargers O sucked today too.....considering these were both very good Ds, and the game was actually in SD, you need to see the Bears O in a different setting to really make the call. At one point, LT haqd negative rushing yards and if it was not for some runs in the last 30 secs of the 1st half where the Bears D played prevent to make sure no points were scored, LT would have ended 1st half with negative points. Also, offenses tend to always get out of the gate slower than the Ds.....week 1 issues. The Pats O got shut out a few years back against the Bills in Buffalo....this was the year they went on to win the SB.

You win. Chicago has a better O they just couldn't score or hold on to the ball today.

I'd agree with that. CAR looked good imo though. They've already got a leg up on the entire divison. ATL should be 2 easy wins. Depending on how the injuries play out in TB the Bucs could be in serious trouble.

I didn't say either team dominated. You said you didn't feel like the Bears lost to a better team. I'm not sure what you're making that basing that assessment on but it doesn't appear to be based on anything that actually happened in the game.

:own3d: Sure. And what about the "offsides" no call. That was seven off the board...

I admit Bears D was very very tough. But I noticed when M Turner was in running, the Bears had a harder time taking him down. That was a good shift IMHO by the Chargers O....

No team with two guys like Grossman and Benson prominently involved should be this cocky. That QB flat-out sucks.

:lmao:  Only Bears fans could get beat 14-3 with their only points coming off an interception followed a massive 27 yard drive that stalled in the redzone forcing a field goal... and feel like they should have won the game.

Right now when it comes to outright blind homer-ness it's Bears fans and then there's everyone else... I've been dropping in bears-related threads all day for the sheer unintentional comedic value.

Cant wait to bump this later in the season when this team is rolling. Remember, this was the toughest game on the Bears schedule this year.

I'm not really sure what that will prove. No one is saying the bears are a poor team. They're saying the Chargers were a better team today. They were the better team. Their defense played as well as the bears, if not better. Their offense played better than the Bears offense. Bumping this thread in a few weeks or months really doesn't seem like it will make a case for anything other than the Chargers beat the Bears in week 1. Now if you want to bump that every week then have at it. Of course it makes about as much sense as saying the Bears were the better team today.

I agree they are up there in the NFC, however the way the Packers are a nice young and up and coming team, they could give them a run for their money in the division. The Bears offense looks exactly the same with the exception of losing their best RB. It doesn't appear to me that Grossman has learned anything, or taken is game to the next level. Does that worry you at all as a Bears fan??Pereniall powerhouse NFL teams are the ones that get better with each year, look at the Patriots, I don't think the Bears got any better this year.

As a Bears fan I was hoping for a close game but expecting a loss. I never imagined LT would get only 25 yards rushing and only 76 total yards. With the way the Bolts were bottled up Chicago had a perfect opportunity to win this game against the most powerful offensive team in the league. The Bears O however performed exactly the way I was afraid it would. They didn't not win the game, they lost the game. While I don't justify the loss, I am am stoked about the D. Just like I was all 2006 season though I am worried about the O. With that D They can win any game, with that O they can lose any game. Until they find an offense that's at least consistently mediocre Chicago will be full of expectations that abruptly fall short. I'm a homer, but I ain't blind.

The Bears D was awesome. When they get into the weaker part of the schedule they will eat the bad teams alive.

The O sucks. I would honestly rater start rent Green or Damon Huard than that guy. The Bears need better QB play to beat the elite AFC teams.

The Chargers were the better team and would have scored another TD if not for a blown call.

The Bears will win their division, look at their schedule.

[cough]2005 vs. Philadelphia

17 rushes, 7 yards 0 TDs

4 receptions, 26 yards, 0 TDs

[cough]

I am furious today and it's not because the Bears lost. I figured this was the toughest game on their schedule. Bear defense played absolutely amazing, but of course the sub-par offense found a way to lose.

The Mike Brown thing is what's really killing me. This Bears team is not the same without him. Check the stats when Brown is in the game against when he is not, they're a totally different D.

   :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

The Bears may very well win their division, but what the heck does it have to do with their schedule? The teams in their division have the same schedule aside from two games where the Bears play against better teams (because they won the division last yr). Like any division, this one will come down to winning the division games. I think all the teams in the Bears division improved, so I'll be happy if the Bears can win at least 4 of the division games.
