NFL Free Agency 2025? (2 Viewers)

Saints re-signed TE Juwan Johnson for 3 years $30.75 million.
Guy must double as stadium maintenance as well.
They basically have to extend these guys they don't even want to new deals because they can't afford the dead cap hits on all the void years.

Yikes if they signed Juwan to this deal due to the cap hell they've been operating in.
Ah. Now this makes sense. Thanks for these posts.

Saints sign safety Justin Reid for 3 years $31.5 million.

They also re-signed safety Tyrann Mathieu for 1 year up to $7.2 million.

No one but Ravens fan will care, but they re-signed FB Patrick Ricard who is a vital part of their run game (also a good pass blocker). I do not understand the contract terms as I saw them, but it seems like a pay cut for Ricard.

They converted bonus for him last year, just like they did with Carr, and then carry it over into later years. He has another $6.5M that is carrying over in voids to this new deal, and I'm sure there are even more on the back end of this one.

Chase Young had multiple void years on his 1 year deal last year.

If you don't extend these players to new deals all those void years hit the cap this year.

It's a vicious cycle. They have 5 guys this year with millions in dead cap that aren't playing for them. Their top 4 guys in cap hit and dead cap hit are 34 or older, and that's Derek Carr. Demario Davis (36), Taysom Hill (35), and Cameron Jordan (36).

Bears and Vikings with some great moves. Minnesota loading up their front 7 to stop Detroit. I can see both Chicago and Minnesota passing the Lions within a couple years. QBs on rookie deals are a huge advantage.

Look out if Caleb and J.J. are the real deal. Athletic QBs are where it’s at in the NFL. The Pack looking really good, too. NFC Central will likely be the toughest division in the league next year.
Dropping a bunch of $ the first day of FA isn't necessarily a good thing, certainly not for long-term team building. At least they're building the lines though, which should be #1 priority with young QBs (or any team really).

Some names I expected to have signed by now:
Keenan Allen
Stefon Diggs
Za’Darius Smith
Justin Simmons
Kyzir White
Mike Hilton
Nick Chubb

And honestly, Russel Wilson

A few hours from NFL FA officially opening. Can't wait to see where everyone goes!
Finally some action around here
My bold prediction is Sam Darnold will sign with Seattle.
Yeah right, they'll trade Geno for cheap just to pay this guy. Where do you even come up with this stuff?
they can just lure Sam in by trading DK Metcalf
and bonus if they trade him to the Steelers it can also prevent the Steelers from signing any qb. It just might work.

With the Engram signing, the Broncos have filled their top 3 gaping roster holes (TE, S, ILB)

All signs now point to Denver snagging the top RB on their board at #20 in the draft. Or maybe even trading up

Dianna Russni:

Vikings decision-makers are still
evaluating their options at quarterback, including the possibility of signing Aaron Rodgers. The four-time MVP is intrigued by the idea of playing in Minnesota. For now, it’s a waiting game, sources tell @mikesilver and me.

Is A-Aron really the guy you want to be around JJM at this point in both their careers?
I suspect this is a 1-sided interest from ARod.

Vikings have made it pretty clear that JJM is the plan from what I’ve seen.

I’d be shocked if ARod wants to be a backup, so color me skeptical this happens.

Quadzilla to the Eagles:
Eagles signed RB AJ Dillon, formerly of the Packers, to a one-year contract.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Dillon had been fully cleared to return to football after battling a neck injury that occurred late in 2023. The 26-year-old will now make his return to the field with the defending champions, hoping to provide some thump as a backup to Saquon Barkley. Dillon has averaged just 4.1 yards per carry in his four-year NFL career, and that number has decreased every year he’s been in the league. He’s also not much of a pass-catching option with only one season of more than 30 catches; however, he does have 18 touchdowns and could be a solid short-yardage or red-zone option when the Eagles want to give Barkley a breather.

Might shop him to the Barkley shareholder for a pick in the 2 leagues he’s clogging my roster.

Nice of him to go on the IR for me last year at least.

Someone's gotta Sherpa the kid through the ins and outs of me-ism and when and not to take selfies during a hiatus.

What day they drop money essentially doesn’t matter. What matters is the quality of the deals as a whole and both the Vikes and da Bears are killing it.

We’ll have to see how they turn out, but on paper, they’ve made huge gains.

After a breakout season with the Dallas Cowboys, running back Rico Dowdle is on the move.
Dowdle is signing a one-year deal worth up to $6.25 million with the Carolina Panthers, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported. Carolina announced the deal, as well.

The Carolina Panthers and veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen have agreed to terms on a revised contract, sources told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Thielen, 34, will be returning for his 12th NFL season in 2025.

Mike Williams to the Chargers. I don’t hate it as a Herbert shareholder.
I'm pretty neutral at best as a fellow Herbert shareholder. Williams seems to be a far cry from the WR he was about 5 years ago - probably less effective at this stage than even Palmer, who just walked in FA. Was definitely hoping the Chargers would do more to put receiving weapons around Herbert - reinforces how much they are committed to the run game and just have Herbert mainly game manage. Hard to imagine them getting an impact WR in the draft that can come in right away.

Seems like injury insurance for Chuba since Brooks probably won't be back until well into the season if at all in '25.

Or they’re more optimistic in QJ than we are.

Williams is a weapon if he can stay on the field. That’s been the knock.

Yeah, backup/breather.

This was an ideal signing for Chuba shareholders

I'm not seeing it like apparently everyone else is seeing , he was really as productive as Chubba was last year. Main difference was for fantasy they let Chubba run the ball more in the red zone and he scored a lot of Td's. Not saying he's taking his job, but I am saying I think it's going to be more of a RBBC.

Not seeing the bolded the same as you. Last year trying to return from an ACL injury, sure he did not look like himself. Other then that if you go back to just beginning of the 2023 season he looked as good as he ever has looked as well the season prior. No guarantee he can return to his pre-aCL injury form but if he can this is a steal and a boon for Herbert IMO.

This is how I see it. Prior to tearing his ACL he was putting up big numbers.

Gonna agree to disagree on this one.

Feels like Chuba has the RB1 job & Rico will get the scraps.

Gotta have depth. Rico feels like depth to me.

We can agree to disagree but I can't dismiss a RB who performed just as well as Chubba and I sure can't see him not eating into his role.

Same here, Rico could threaten if Chuba stumbles sure. Even with Dak out half the season, I'd argue Dowdle had a much better situation in Dallas and Chuba was better in the wasteland of Carolina. Multi-year extension for Chuba a few months ago (even if it is structured for them to easily get out of it starting in '26.) Dallas didn't even bother bringing Dowdle back opting for Javonte instead.

Canales doesn't seem like a RBBC guy to me either, he kept trotting out Rachaad in Tampa over and over again despite his 3.6ypc. Chuba got the vast majority of the touches last year even when Brooks was finally healthy. Seems like Dowdle slots in as a Miles Sanders replacement with maybe a shot to take a few more touches.

Justin Reid is ok and everything - not sure he is THAT significant of an upgrade over Will Harris (2yr/8M) that they let go to WAS.
