Game Thread -Divisionals-Pittsburgh V Indianapolis (1 Viewer)

I was mucking it up before the game with Bettis. I had the Burger King mask on and held a sign that made fun of the steel curtain with a floral pattern curtain on a rod.

Jerome was cracking up. Just as he was looking my way, the EMTs were rolling a stretcher by and I told Bettis they were going to need more where that one came from. He smiled and we had a nice laugh. He is a genuine guy who I've always admired. I hope he gets his chance to play in a Superbowl. I will be rooting for him as a Colts fan.

Congrats Steelers, once again, the better team won today.
You sir are a class act. So Kudos to you!I said, as the Colts were lining up for the FG, that win or lose, this was the best game I had ever seen in my life...bar none.

Vinatieri sure didn't have trouble with all those 40+ yarders as the clock ran out in the playoffs.  Wonder what would happen if they were on opposite teams the last 5 years...Would people call Brady a choker because the kicker, and not Brady, missed those kicks in the Super Bowl if they ended up losing?
Vinatieri sure did have trouble with his opportunity yesterday. I wouldn't be using his name as the gold standard.
Come on, NY homer here, but Vinteri is a hall of famer! He's the Mariano Rivera of kickers!Vandy, on the other hand, is the Armando Benitez.

This has to be one of the largest posts in FBG Shark Pool history. Congrats fellas.New England homer here, just getting back from a weekend in the mountains, and a hell of a hangover from my sorrow-drowning, drunken stupor following the death of my Patriot's dynasty. The second worst part of my weekend had to be listening to this game on the radio driving home rather than watching it live. Holy schneikes! (sp.)Congrats to the Steelers, the organization and their fans. They've always maintained their class and their character and deserve another trip to the big dance.Without another rooting interest for the remainder of the playoffs, I guess I can offer one of these. :towelwave:

What is the record for pages on a FBG thread? This has got to be close to tops...To answer Capella..I guess I am a homer, but admit the 4th Qtr was amazing. The drama, blown calls, excitement...no?

About 550. So no, not really.

Sure, it was a great fourth quarter. Probably not even in my top-20 or 30 most memorable games though.

That was one hell of a crazy game. As a Pittsburgh'r who does bash the Steeler Way at times, I have to give Cowher and the entire coaching staff a ton of credit for this win. The Steelers came out with a game plan on both offense and defense that was perfect. They threw out the,"We will line up and do what we do and you have to stop it", attitude, and came out throwing. I really think that caught the Colts off guard. The only time I was getting worried about the play calling was when it was 21-10, and the Steelers started playing the dahm Prevent Defense, and the Colts scored in less then a minute, to make it 21-18. But I was happy and surprised that they went back to blitzing, which worked the entire game, when the Colts got the ball back with about 2:00 to go. It was easy to see that the Colts had no answer for the Steelers blitz. This was a big win for Cowher and his guys. Hope they can keep it rolling next week in Den. Maybe a rode AFC Championship is what these guys need.

Franco Harris down?

I'd have never believed the Steelers could win convincingly in Indy despite having 2-0 deficit in turnovers. I'd love to see stats on what a road team's record is in the playoffs when they have a -2 turnover ratio. The scary thing is that this team can play even better.

No, the scary thing is they probably would have won today's game by double digits points if the refs hadn't completely botched the game, despite losing the turnover battle.

Never heard of these guys. Are they the best, and worst, ballroom dancers?

Guess we will find out what calls were by the book and what calls were missed on Wednesday NFL Network.

I think by the book the INT was INC.
:goodposting: I have already stated that I think there will be some announcement about an obscure ruling that makes that the right call. I thought it was a horrible call at the time but then again most people thought the "tuck" rule call was the worst in history at the time.

Evilgrin and others should reserve judgement until the NFL makes an announcement this week. Its just fortunate that Pitt did not lose the game because of that.

Congrats to the Steelers fans.

This makes the way the Pats lost last night (giving the game away with Brady the biggest culprit) even harder to take. The Pats could have been hosting the Steelers next week.

Den/Pitt looks to be a pretty even game. Denver didnt play great overall last night but I thought their D showed a lot of toughness.
I know the rules - they can't justify that call. I can see it if a receiver catches the ball, gets both feet down, but then in the process of spinning, loses the ball, but you cannot call a pass incomplete when a player has made a catch, gone down, rolled over TWICE, and then gotten back up. That is a fumble, plain and simple. What the ref was feebly trying to contend was that Polamalu's knee went down, then came back up, only he lost control of the football while the knee was still down, thus making it an incomplete pass. Anyone watching that play can see that this is not even close. He rolled over 2 complete times before getting up AND KNOCKING THE BALL LOOSE WITH HIS KNEE. It was a horrendous overturn and one that really cannot be justified.I echo your sentiments that it's good it did not decide the game. Justice was served, but I still owe that official a shot in the nuts for almost causing me cardiac arrest this afternoon. :D
Did you know the Tuck Rule when it happened? It is one thing to be a knowledgeable football fan and another to know the NFL rulebook from A to Z. Dont be so arrogant that you think you know EVERYTHING about football. The ref was saying that even though he caught it, went down, rolled over that he still needed to get up with the ball in posession for it to be an interception. As he was getting up his left knee knocked the ball out while his right knee was still on the ground.

I think it is idiotic that the defender should have to get ALL the way up before considering it a catch since if he had stayed down and not attempted to get up it would have been an interception. That is why it sounds like some crazy rule interpretation issue. What else could it be to overturn the call on the field.
"The issue was whether he had possession. The ball came loose when he was getting up. Pete Morelli determined it wasn't a catch," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "That was his judgment." Exactly as I had said - this was NOT a clear-cut case of applying an NFL rule. The pass should have been ruled intercepted if the official determined that Polamalu had established possession prior to fumbling the ball. It was a judgment call - now, someone please tell me how this official could have seen those replays and judged that Polamalu never had possession before losing it?

I heard on the pregame yesterday that the team with a +2(or more) turnover margin wins 94% of the time in the playoffs.

No question in my mind that Pittsburgh took the film from the SanDiego game and then enhanced that blitz scheme. The key to beating Manning is smack that prima donna in the mouth. Nice job Pittsburgh.

I stand corrected. Morelli is a moron. However, he doesnt make that call in a vacuum. Did the replay official agree with him? What happens if the on-field ref and the replay official disagree? Who has final say.NOW people can say this was one of the worst judgement calls ever.

Everyone is on Manning today and rightfully so. This is a correlated point but what about Marvin Harrison? He seems to shrink in this physical type of game as well. Smack him a couple of times and he disappears. I guess you would have to watch the Coaches tape but I dont recall the announcers mentioning Harrison running free or remember seeing Manning miss Harrison by a wide margin on any passes.Harrison gets a free pass.I think that a number of key cogs in the INDY machine are soft:DUNGYMANNINGHARRISONFREENEY

Freeney soft? He was in the backfield an awful lot yesterday...
I have seen Freeney dissapear in a number of games. For all of the hype he gets, Mathis led the team in sacks with 11.5 and missed a couple of games.

You do know that Freeney is double teamed alot and that leaves Mathis one on one. Freeney is a beast and wrecked havoc all day in the Steelers backfield. Freeney also caused Ben's interception.

Biggest overstatement of the year.

Care to elaborate? Freeney was putting pressure on Ben for most of the game and he caused the Steelers to leave Heath Miller in to help block him.

God -- hope you're saying that because you're a homer. That wasn't even the best football game this month.
Ahh...Texas/USC was pretty good! But most of what I've read today affirms that this game was one of the all-time great NFL playoff games. That's not coming from just us homers. Peter King: "One of the greatest games I've ever seen. Ever. Ladies and gentlemen, we have the greatest game of the season. Of many seasons, probably." You'd be hard pressed to find a game with more twists and turns in the final minutes.

Sacks are overrated. Freeney gets pressure all of the time on QB's and is often double-teamed. He changes the way teams pass block.
