This thread will be pinned once the game starts.

Extra info regarding how players look will be appreciated.

If there are any injuries, please post about them in the separate injury thread

Jets getting pressure early. On Houston's first drive, Schaub was pummeled twice. If he didn't enter this game hurt, he's certainly going to leave it that way. Jets bringing a bunch of pressure from different sources (ILB, OLB, Gholston playing as RDE on the opening play, S blitz).

Jets offense looking as expected with a rookie QB and weak receivers. Houston sells out on the run the first play, Jets can't pass for much after digging a hole on a big loss on the first down run.

Jets have been playing Eric Smith and Jim Leonard a lot. I haven't been able to see if the Jets are playing 3 safeties and one corner, taking out a LB (3-3-5) or if Rhodes has missed some time. I definitely saw all 3 safeties in on one play.

Jets D is swarming all over the place, but I don't think HOU is making it hard on them. Schaub does not look good so far. It's early, though.

Looks like a mistake to start Thomas Jones today...Washington's been in 75% of the plays thus far.
Haven't counted plays, but seems more like 50/50 early.I've seen TJ make the first guy at the line miss twice, I think he looks good so far.No surprises, though, we had to expect Leon would get more work, but Jones is still going to be the guy, especially RZ.REALLY impressed with Sanchez. Just had to call a time out there, but he's showing some good poise for the most part so far (this drive is like 8+ minutes now).

short FG by FeelyPersonal foul on Jets enforced on kickoff.

Biggest complaint right now is the Jets are playing too conservatively. They're a running team with an obviously unproven QB. They are weak at WR, and their only proven WR is a guy who isn't a blazer and only runs intermediate routes. There are NO reasons for the Texans not to keep 8 or 9 in the box, and have both safeties close to the line; and that's exactly what they're doing. Even with Flacco, at least he had the big arm that teams had to respect. The Jets need to go deep, they need to stretch the field, and they need to move the safeties back. Until then, the running game will still be in neutral and the short passing game won't be as effective. That's what we're seeing here.

Texans fans booing after Slaton loses 3 on an off tackle play on 2nd down.

14 yard screen pass to Slaton fans go nuts.

Loveit.

Jets fans have been complaining about the lack of blitzing for years. I always thought that was overrated. Good example of that here, when the Jets send the house on 3rd and long, and a short WR screen pass gets behind the defense and goes fo ra first down.

Top two pass rushers out you gotta figure they'll be blitzing a fair amount.
Ellis isn't a top pass rusher. And while Pace is out, Gholston could be an adequate replacement there. The Jets will just be blitzing a lot all season long. With Pace/Thomas/Gholston, the Jets should have good pass rush at the OLB spot. Ellis' replacement there with a nice FR.

He led the team in sacks in 2008. Let me know where I erred.

Is that 6 third downs passes converted now by Sanchez? Telling you, the kid is handling his first game very nicely so far. Couple hiccups he got lucky on but overall he looks good.

Oh baby.

Where was the safety on that on? Totally blown coverage on 3rd down, but congrats to Sanchez/Jets fans, nice one.

I don't have TJones, but i'm curious. Is NFL.com correct...he doesn't have a single carry? Just wondering what the reason(s) behind this are.

:wall: He just isn't a pass rusher. He gets some sacks when the play breaks down, but he wasn't a very good pass rusher a 4-3 end and he's not a good pass rusher as a 3-4 end.

Were you confused and thought my reference to the Jets top two pass rushers - with a grand total of 15 - that I was claiming they were elite on a league wide basis?Really??

Jones has 5 carries for like a half yard... forget NFL.com.... use Fox Sports, it's better this year vs. the new and stupid NFL nonsense.Sanchez has impressed, and so has the Jets D. Neither team can run the ball much.

Where the hell is AJ today?
Jets have been overpowering Houston. Schaub hasn't had a lot of time to find his guy, and Revis is most likely doing a good job covering AJ (we haven't seen on TV). I think Johnson has only one target. Houston hasn't gone out of its way to get him the ball, but right now the Jets D is just controlling the game.

EDIT: 1st half touches

Washington: 10 touches (2 rec), 43 yards

Jones: 5 touches, 1 yard

The line play has been real good on both sides of the ball for gang green. Got burned by a couple screens but they're really sharp so far. Seems like other than that free run by DeMarco, Sanchez has had plenty of time to go through his progressions.

4th down should be midfield after the punt lets see the kid run the drill.

Gotta think this half is nearly as good as even the most fervent Jets fanatic could have hoped for.
