Nah. We have a lot of work to do and its been apparent every step of the way. Nothing is given to you (including a game vs the Jets or Cardinals)... you must go earn every inch. A dose of reality. If they can somehow, by the grace of god, beat New England(or even keep it close) in a couple weeks, I'll say they have a slight chance to topple Indy or New England in the playoffs- but if they get blown out then I'm packing it in until next year. This is so disappointing.
I guess I understand, you're a Pittsburgh fan but you guys just lost to the Jets. No offense to Jets fans but they're terrible. If I were Pittsburgh I wouldn't even be thinking about NE right now.If they can somehow, by the grace of god, beat New England(or even keep it close) in a couple weeks, I'll say they have a slight chance to topple Indy or New England in the playoffs- but if they get blown out then I'm packing it in until next year. What else do I have to think about? They're probably gonna win the division- and then what? Getting housed 45-10 by New England in the divisional round?I knew the O-line was bad- but I didn't think they were THAT bad. This team goes as the o-line goes. They can hang if they block, if they don't you get what you have here tonight. I don't even really think it would've changed my opinion if they won the game in OT. If they're good, they should beat the Jets by 3 TD's.I guess I understand, you're a Pittsburgh fan but you guys just lost to the Jets. No offense to Jets fans but they're terrible. How can you assume that when you have six games left to play with a 1.5 game lead?ChrisHenrysDD said:What else do I have to think about? They're probably gonna win the division- and then what? If they can rush the passer like they did today- it'll be a damn good game. They have lost a lot of close games though, it's not like they're "Miami" bad. Who the Steelers play next week at home. They better beat them by 50.That quote will be gold if the Jets can beat them though.I think you'll be surprised at how "terrible" the Jets are in four days. The Jets have been in every game the last 10 weeks, and it's just been a matter of making those critical plays. Three times Pennington threw bad interceptions. A few times they missed a key tackle.Clemens looks to be playing well, and he showed a lot of poise coming from behind today. The Jets D looked much better, and Harris is playing terrific football. The Jets were in this one again, and finally pulled it out. Ellis makes a sack/fumble he normally misses by an inch; Clemens makes a run Chad couldn't make; the Jets get to Ben on 2nd down in overtime that they normally miss. A small play here and there is what separates this team from last year's playoff team, when they made those plays. The Jets didn't play great football today, but they did play smart football. They were efficient, and didn't beat themselves. Gives some hope for the last six games.I actually think the Jets have a good chance of winning this one. Obviously the 1-8 speaks for itself, but they have played a lot better than that. Everyone gets killed by NE, so let's start in week twoBaltimore: Game tying touchdown pass dropped (twice) by Justin McCareins in the game's final minute.Miami: win@Buffalo: Jets down by 3 at the Bills 40 in the final thirty seconds.@Giants: Jets winning with 8:00 left, down by 4 with 4:00 left.Philadelphia: Jets down by 7 with 4:00 remaining, inside the Eagles five.@Cincinnati: Jets down by 7 with 1:00 left at their 40.Buffalo: Jets down by 3 with 4:00 remaining and the Bills pinned at their 10.Washington: Jets lose in OT.The Jets have obviously had a big problem finishing games, and making the big plays. But they've had a chance to win, and have been competitive, in each of the last eight games. I have no reason to think that won't happen against this Sunday. Pittsburgh will probably be up by 7 with about 4 minutes left and the Jets driving. We'll see what Clemens can do.
Well, that makes me feel a little better about the loss. I wish I would have done a little more homework on them instead of writing them off because of their record. Here's what I wrote before the game:If they can rush the passer like they did today- it'll be a damn good game. Does it matter? They'll go into NE or Indy and lay an egg anyways. They seem to be incapable of pass protection when they're on the road. This is the kind of loss that might keep the Steelers from getting a 1st round bye...Anytime.ChrisHenrysDD said:Thanks for your great insight into the matter- we weren't aware of that.Tecumseh said:There's NO excuse for an "elite" team to lose to the Jets.

I'm afraid this is right. They need to draft O linemen early and often next year.ChrisHenrysDD said:O-line is awful. New England is going to sack Ben like 80 times.
After they lose Faneca, next year is going to be even worse. I was really hoping this line would gel as the season went on, but they seem to be getting worse. If it weren't for Ben's mobility they would have been exposed a long time ago. I know that anything can happen on any Sunday, but I'm not really expecting the Steelers to be able to hang with the Patriots at this point. But a lot of things can happen between now and the post-season and the Steelers are still in pretty good shape to win the division.I'm afraid this is right. Most people won't listen to this rather obvious aspect of how well a team can and can't run the ball. The Jets can't run the ball with any consistancy either, and it has nothing to do with the RB's..... and that includes last year's version of the Jets' lousy running game too. Maybe because so many people are tired of hearing about how it's the lines that determine how good or bad an offense (or defense) will perform. Be that as it may, it's still as true as saying the sun will rise tomorrow. I don't care who the RB is, if they have to run through trash at the line of scrimmage on every play, the running game won't work. What I don't understand is the apparent lack of quality O linemen being produced in the college ranks. Even a guy like D'Brichshaw Ferguson hasn't come anywhere near living up to being an overall #4 pick. One could always rely on the dominance of the Steeler O-line. The bashing of FWP is misguided. I can't tell you the last time he's been able to even get to the line of scrimmage without arms on him. No holes. I mean no holes. He's having to have the same stutter step hesitancy that LJ was displaying because the O-Line's are not doing their jobs. The world is not right when the Steelres can't run the ball.
Oh I don't know about that, Faneca threw a lot of look out blocks Sunday. He is over the hill. I hope they let him walk. I'm starting to wonder if Tomlin is the right guy. He says all the right things, but his team's performance against weaker teams has me scratching my head. If I was the Steelers HC, I would have them doing basic tackling drills first thing Monday. Pittful performance and blame rests on the HC.After they lose Faneca, next year is going to be even worse. Faneca did not play well yesterday but it really is hard to point at one guy on the line because they all are playing like crap. The seven sacks speak for themselves but the line is having a hard time opening up any holes for Parker. The defense also had a tough day yesterday tackling. I am really starting to wonder what is up with Polamalu -- he was all over the field yesterday but made no big plays and missed quite a few tackles. It was very disappointing to see the Steelers let the Jets march down the field from their own 14 in less than 2 minutes to tie the game and put it overtime. I think the Steelers let down for this game after winning the 3 division games. That is not to take anything away from the Jets who played a great game yesteday -- they certainly deserved the win.If nothing else this should pretty much kill all of the talk about the Steelers being the #2 team in the league. At this point they need to focus on the Miami and Cincinnati games before they have to go up to New England and get blown out by the Patriots.Oh I don't know about that, Faneca threw a lot of look out blocks Sunday. I've seen similar junk being posted on another Steelers forum. Reactionary to a bad loss, most likely, but still. Happens anytime a guy gets a big contract though, so not too surprising. IMO, the only reason that Polamalu is overrated is that certain people wanted to believe he was better than Ed Reed to begin with. He wasn't and isn't. He is what he is: Overly aggressive and sometimes you have to die by that sword if you're gonna live by it. The troubling thing is that he's not making many big plays even when he IS aggressive. What a meltdown. Steelers fans beginning to eat their own- Polamalu.
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=68#s=68&amp...7&t=1454876
In 2005 Polamalu was the best safety in the league -- better than Ed Reed. However that was two years ago. Last season he was playing hurt so we all assumed that he would be back to form in 2007. Well he isn't and I am not buying that he is hurt. I am sure he has some nicks and bruises but Troy has been ineffective pretty much all season. He has 0 interceptions and 0 sacks, which is troublesome because he blitzes quite often. I think the Steelers should pull the reigns on him a bit and keep him back in coverage more.On the other hand the Steelers were ranked #1 in both run and pass defense so what they have been doing has been working most of the time. I know they have had a soft schedule but they did a good job against some decent offenses (Cincy, Cleve, Seattle). The one thing you don't want to do is overreact over the Jets game. Beat the Dolphins this week -- that is the job at hand.IMO, the only reason that Polamalu is overrated is that certain people wanted to believe he was better than Ed Reed to begin with. He wasn't and isn't. He is what he is: Overly aggressive and sometimes you have to die by that sword if you're gonna live by it. The troubling thing is that he's not making many big plays even when he IS aggressive. We've seen Polamalu play like this before though(chronically not wrapping on tackles, etc)......when he was hurt. I've been saying I believe he's injured(to whatever degree) for a month to my Steeler buddies. Every game makes me believe it more.
He missed some tackles that would have been losses or short gains that instead went for big yardage. I think people are just used to seeing him making big plays and he really hasn't had many of those this season.I'm in no way a Steelers or Ravens expert, but from watching the Browns games versus these opponents, I'd say Polamalu is more valuable to the Steelers' D than Ed Reed is the the Ravens D. Did he really look that bad yesterday?
