Game Thread W12 - Chicago V New England (1 Viewer)

I'm just curious if people think that turnovers necessarily = ugly game. Many of the Bear turnovers were ugly but most of the Pats turnovers were the result of some pretty heady defensive plays by the Bears -- The strip fumbles, the jarring hit on Watson that popped up the INT - Those are jsut good defensive plays. There was a lot of hitting going on in that game -- Good smashmouth football. The only really ugly part of the game IMO was Rex the Wonder Dog.
:goodposting: Don't forget the Bears offensive play calling. We were running all over the best defense in the league. And what do we do? Throw bombs on first down over and over. :hot: :hot: :hot: :hot: :hot:

So seriously, is next week Griese time?
Nope. Can't see the Bears going with anyone but Rex. He is still technically in his 1st season.
Yes, but technically, he is ####ing awful and technically, you guys would have a chance with a QB who was average.
That's pretty much what all the Chicago beat writers were saying this offseason. The defense is great, they just need the offense to approach 'average' (as they've been near the bottom the past two years). I think they fell in love with Grossman during the first month, as there is NO pressure whatsoever from the media to let Griese play - as Grossman has shown flashes of brilliance.I think they should have run the ball more in the 2nd half though. They were having success, so why switch to this home run bomb nonsense?
 There's no excuse for continually putting the game in Rex's hands each week, considering his recent problems. The coaching staff get a big  for that.

Nice victory today.

Your team made more plays and Rex Grossman couldn't avoid the big mistake.

All of the homerism stuff, etc. etc. I was just joking about. I have the utmost respect for each and every member on this board.

Hopefully we'll see a rematch in February.

Of course the Bears would have to win a couple of playoff games to make that a possibility.
The dude is not a Pats fan. He just comes into every Bears thread whenever they're not playing good and bashes them. Then, he suddenly disappears when they do well. I don't even think he has an actual favorite team. He's a tool. Plain and simple. I have him on ignore but I still stumble across his idiocy sometimes when others respond to him. I wish there were some way to block that too. :hot:

What an ugly game. Does the fact that those are supposedly two of the NFL's best teams say something about the overall quality of play in the NFL right now? Yes, it was just one game, but when you think about how ugly all of the best teams have looked for a good part of this season, it makes sense.
These two teams played an ugly game - there have been some GREAT games between good teams, too.
It was a fairly ugly game, but it was a good game as well. The turnovers in this game were mostly forced turnovers- Samuel jumped a couple of routes and made fantastic plays on the ball, the Bears playing the tip drill and forcing fumbles. And it came right down to the last 2 minutes. Brady's shake and bake on Urlacher alone was worth the price of admission (and tapping him on the helmet after the play, which Urlachs wanted no part of). This was a good game- young upstart on the road vs cagey veteran at home, and ultimately it came down to the Brady making money plays at the end and Grossman making one too many mistakes, about what you would expect. Good game

Completely agree. Our defense was money and our running game did very well. Cutting out the mistakes is what it's all about though. If Rex and Ron Turner can somehow get their heads screwed on straight, I like our chances to do well in the playoffs. However, That's a big "if". Outside of our qb play, I'm still very pleased with the Bears. Rex had 4 stinkin turnovers at New England and we were still right there in the end. I think that says a lot for the rest our team. We'll be a contender for a long time to come, imo. I can lay my hat on that.

That's my fault Flap, sorry. :( I've tried to ask him numerous times who his favorite team is, but he has me on ignore. Which is odd, because it should be the other way around. :lmao:

I didn't think the game was ugly despite many turnovers. Both defenses made some awesome plays forcing turnovers, although I have to give New England slightly less credit on the turnovers because I think Rex handed them the ball a little more easily. Samuel did make the best of those situations though and he does deserve a ton of credit.

Overall, I thought it was a great game to watch. Again, I think the Bears beat themselves though. If we play again, and if (a BIG if) Rex doesn't #### it up, we can take the Pats.

Maybe. Better shore up that pass defense first though... Brady found a lot of holes in that "Bear 2"... I'd expect other teams to pick at the same areas in the future.

Thats true but that's the nature of the defense. You are going to give up underneath stuff in order to hopefully prevent the big play. In the cover two, you have to get to the QB or he can eat you alive. The key to the game for the Bears D was stopping the run so they could pin their ears back and get after Brady on 3rd and long. Cover 2 is great if the passes coming out are forced or off balance, because you have guys all around the ball that can pick it off if the pass isnt perfect. Its a bend but dont break- turnover forcing scheme. But it will always give up yards, and can be beat with accurate QB play and good route running.

That seemed to be the key yesterday. The Bears didn't sack Brady once and the O-line gave him pretty good protection most of the game.

50% of bradys completions were to running backs. The entire game I was yelling at the TV trying to tell just one of the linebackers to cover the RB coming out of the backfield. They apparently didn't hear me. I thought they did a great job covering everyone else .. Watson did make some nice catches thoughETA: that's exactly what I thought Brady was going to do. pick them apart with the short stuff. he did it and it worked. it just ticked me off that i saw it coming and the bears apparently didn't? those runningbacks averaged a ton of yards per catch for coming out of the backfield.

Is Tommie Harris seeing double teams all of the time now? No pressure on Brady all day.

I laughed when Maroney juked Urlacker.

I laughed when Brady juked Urlacker.

I wet myself when Brady slapped Urlacker on the helmet and Urlacker looked like somebody just fed him a #### sandwich.

I caught Brady's weekly Monday interview on EEI this morning. He said that Urlacher said something to him like "Aw man, you just made me look bad." It was in good humor.

Well Patriots fans... I ate my fair share of crow on this day back in Week 12.

I was hoping for a rematch since you can't beat the Bears in the Super Bowl - and both our teams play like crap in Miami.

But one team simply didn't have it today.

Whereas another certain 'one trick pony' led his team to the Super Bowl.

So as Cubs fans always say in August, wait 'til next year for you.... :goodposting:
