Game Thread W13 - San Diego V Buffalo (1 Viewer)

Chargers has all the talent in the world two years ago and lost to the freeking Jets at home.
This team is better than the '04 version, if they can get healthy.
Well said. The '04 Chargers don't compare to the current teams even w/ the injuries. In '04 SD was 11th in the league in offense and 18th in defense. This year they are 5th in offense and 9th in defense(and that's missing perhaps the best defensive player in the NFL for 1/3rd of the games). Not saying stats always tell the whole story but in this case they are so much higher in both offense and defense it certainly is an indicator. In '04 SD had three pro-bowl players but I'd be willing to bet it has more in '06. Again, not always the best way to judge level of talent but I wouldn't be surprised if that # is at least doubled in '06.

did mcgee get hurt? Noticed he finished without a tackle today.
I don't remember them throwing to his side of the field. They seemed to be going at Clements, who appeared to be matched up with Eric Parker most of the time. Regardless, the Chargers WRs were neutralized in this game...Bills didn't have an answer for Tomlinson or Gates though.

Hochuli is a cheater
I thought his knee was down before he let go, but it clearly wasn't on replay. Great play by Losman to make a throw with Phillips on his legs. Not sure why it wasn't reviewable.
Yeah, that was a terrible call. Losman was not down; he was not in the grasp; his forward progress had not been stopped. It should have been a complete pass. The Chargers also got away with what should have been a pass interference call later in a critical situation.

yep. I was very impressed with the Bills defensive backfield overall today. They gave separation, but seemed to react quick and were on top of San Diego receivers as soon as the ball got there, either breaking up the play or tackling the receiver immediately. The Bills were impressive today. You guys are in dire need of a possession receiver (either a TE or big WR) to help JP on third downs and a red zone target. Too bad Charles Johnson will be gone by the time the Bills pick, he'd be a perfect fit.

I don't think it was, but I also don't think it mattered.

Did you edit your post? I could have sworn I quoted something else. There are no edit tags, but it wouldn't surprise me if admins could do that. The replay was inconclusive, but the ref was right there and the ball definitely changed rotation as it passed Cromartie's hand. Either way, I agree that it likely didn't matter.

Marty called a TO at the end of the game and rushed out onto the field. Seemed really strange at the time. Here is the reason.

Hart's injury

Linebacker Shaun Phillips had to be restrained, and head coach Marty Schottenheimer called a timeout at game's end for the sole purpose of allaying tensions.

The Chargers left the field thrilled with the 24-21 victory but upset by their belief the Bills' Mario Haggan intentionally yanked on Clinton Hart's ankle during an onside kick.

“The guy twisted Clinton Hart's ankle,” Phillips said. “We don't play like that. We're professionals here. To try to break somebody's ankle is a problem. If you want to give somebody a rib shot or pinch him, it's OK; it's part of the game. A little bit of cheap shots is going to take place. But you cannot, not under any circumstances, try to maliciously hurt anybody. You just don't do that. You're messing with a person's livelihood; he has a family. You don't do that to people.”

Hart was carted off the field and was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.

“Someone was up under me, pulling my ankle,” Hart said. “I had to decide, 'Do I hold onto the ball and let them pull my ankle until it breaks?'

Injuries were the reason that piling up on one side of the ball during an onside kick was made illegal, but it seems that a few teams are getting around it by loading up everyone in the middle. I would expect a rule change to close the loophole next year.

I was listening to the game on the ticket yesterday, and they were all over this when it happened. I can't believe that went down, as I didn't suspect the Bills of having any dirty players. I'd like to think it was accidental, but it sure doesn't sound like it.

Oh it looks like Osgood got hurt yesterday too. I'd consider it a moral victory if the Chargers can get through a game with one player or less getting knocked out and needing an MRI at this point.

I don't know if it was intentional or not. I hope that it wasn't and if the league thinks that it was he should be suspended. But let's not pretend that the Chargers are so clean in this either. Angelo Crowell is done for the year because somebody kicked him in the leg and broke his leg.

Is this one of those Chuck Norris jokes?
I thought it was a little odd too, but that is how the injury was described:
Crowell was injured when he was kicked by another player, and left the game during the first defensive series for Buffalo. He came off during a television commercial break and didn't return.

Was it on purpose? Who did it?Edit: Reading Aaron's link there doesn't seem to be any reason to assume this was done on purpose. Injuries happen, but what happened to Hart is BS. You don't try and break someone's ankle in a pile, especially when the game is essentially over.

Maybe the Bills are just classier than the Chargers and take care of things behind closed doors instead of complaining to the media? Maybe it was just an accident in the middle of a play? I don't know for sure. Just like you don't know whether someone was actually trying to hurt Hart or not. I haven't seen video of either play so I can't make a judgement about one or the other. But like I said before, anyone intentionally trying to injure another player should be suspended. If that means a Buffalo player misses games, so be it.

It was in the pile, there is no video. I trust that the three SD players that saw it happen were not making it up. They really gain nothing by doing so.Crowell's injury is a reach. The only one in the media, Bills organization, or any forums I have visited that have even implied it was the result of an intentional act is you.
