Game Thread W14 - Pittsburgh V New England (1 Viewer)

The big matchup was the #1 defense vs the #1 offense. And all eyes on what could be the best offense in NFL history. Result: steelers defense getting shredded. Amazing.
Not amazing. Both the Steelers starting safeties are not playing. Exactly where they are getting beat.
After today's performance, we can crown this offense as the best ever, super bowl win or not.
sorry but that crown should go to a team that can at least moderately run the ball. best passing attack ever, maybe.
Guess what. The passing attack is part of the offense.
right, a part. so i'd consider a team that can throw the ball well AND run the ball well to be superior to a team that can only throw the ball well. but that's just me.

OUCH lol.

Steelers are outmatched...

Outplayed...

Definitely outclassed....

Like I said OUCH

Coming into this week, NE had the 8th best yards per game on the ground.
:P The Patriots actually CAN run the football. They just choose not to. They elect to throw it a lot.

That looked like pass interference on the 3rd down play, but a stupid play call on 4th down. Steelers can only blame themselves.

Serious question:

On the 3rd down play, when Harrison was covering Holmes, and didn't turn around for the ball, is that a penalty in the NFL? Or is that just a college rule?

Is face-guarding still illegal? It looked like on the 3rd down play the NE defender never looked for the ball.

We really haven't seen any bottom line evidence of that...

I think the real question is why you choose to run a fade route on 3rd and goal...

It should have been a penalty, as Harrison had a bit of his jersey and appeared to hit him a tad earlier, but this is the Patriots we are talking about.

Holmes would have had a much better chance if he just ran the slant on Harrison instead of the fade. Bad play call.

Can anyone remember the last time the Pats RAN the ball!?!?3 plays inside the 5, and 3 straight passes... It's stuff like this that makes it hard for me to believe that the Pats are so "unstoppable"Granted, PIT is mising some DBs, but damn, just go into the dime defense and make them beat you on the ground... doesn't seem too hard... I know NE has some talented WRs... but still... you can double team Moss, and still have one body on each WR/TE with a LB manning up against the RB and 3 down linemen...
If you go to the dime inside the 5 you are basically giving away a rushing TD. Brady would walk it in himself. And doubling Moss at the goal line really worked in the first quarter didn't it?
1- I didn't say they shoudl do that in the goal line, just saying... NE has what, 7 rush attempts? 2- Sorry, I'm not watching the game, I don't know what's going on when Moss scores3- At least the Steelers would be trying something different if they go to the dime... because what they're doing now is definately NOT working... wouldn't hurt to try something else. What's the worst that could happen? They lose by 35 instead of 21?

I thought that too.. you have to be looking back and playing the ball. ?? Not calling it a bad call... but, it seemed off??

Were the '98 Vikings a great offense on both sides? If so, they are on the same pace for yardage rushing as those Vikings with Robert Smith in a dome fast track.

I don't agree with the jersey and hitting defender early, I just have a serious question. Are you allowed to not turn around for the ball in the NFL when you are defending the pass? Or is that just college? You guys are going to make me look this up :lmao:

I liked the call. They had a SS on Holmes. New England is just a better team than Pitt.

Yes face guarding is technically illegal, but that is sticking your arm up to cover the players face. Probably could have been called

Some of you guys can continue to argue about the Patriots. For me, as a Steeler fan, I've seen enough. the Steelers have a good team and a very good defense. Overall, they are perhaps a better team than the one that won the 2005 Superbowl. But they are getting crushed today because they are facing the best offense ever in the history of the sport. Period. I don't need any more convincing.

Let's be honest. Nobody is going to stop the Pats this year. Not now, not in the playoffs or Superbowl. They could have lost last week, but that was their last off game. Not going to happen again. As much as I don't want to see it, it will happen.

The Pats are definately one of the best offenses in history... regardless of how well they can run the ball. All they do is pass, and guess what, NO ONE can stop them. Even as predictable as they are in their play call (pass vs run) no one can stop them. Definately one of the best offenses ever assembled

Robert Smith had over 1K yards that year... but, they still basically finished middle of the bunch in rushing. Or the very bottom of the top third.

Pats are very very good in a big big way but the stillers are not as good as you seem to think they are.

No one arguing their ability to pass... that's what fuels their run game.. spread offense and teams having to play the pass. But, in no way could they ever be such a dominating run team that they could line up like Minnesota and everyone know they were running.

So what? Minnesota can't line up and throw the ball so I'm not sure what the difference is. They never attempted to try and be a smash mouth team. They also don't have Adrian Peterson.

This is just pitiful.

Although it will provide a small chuckle for me next week when the announcers in the Steeler game talk about "the #1 rushing defense in football". Yeah, you can get that way when another team can complete 60 passes against you.

Actually in the LR I hope Pats go undefeated... I believe they will fall in the playoffs if the go undefeated. If they lose 1 game.. probably be more hungry.

The Patriots line deserves so much of the credit here.... though when everyone is playing out of their minds its hard to say where the credit really lies...

If I were the Pats I'd sit Brady at this point... but if he has 10 seconds to throw back there its hard to say you're risking injury...

Adrian Peterson can be stopped... NE cannot. Enough said...

Look at them, marching down the field on the #1 D in the league...

as it was said earlier, they are unstoppable... and as much as I hate to admit it, they are the best offense in the history of the league... no one will stop them... they will go undefeated... and all of us NE haters just need to accept it with disgust and hope that the Packers can beat them in the superbowl :) ;)
