Game Thread W2 - Buffalo V Jacksonville (1 Viewer)

MJD has a right ankle sprain. But coming back into the game.
Did MJD fumble ?The play was reviwed...
The lateral was forward so it negates anything that happened after that.
CBS still has it as a fumble.
When they reviewed it they said it was a forward pass, so the play is dead from that moment on. Gave them the 10 second runoff for committing a penalty which ends the game. The fumble technically never existed because the ball was dead the minute it was thrown forward.

Great finish for the Bills today.

I cannot remember watching a young quarterback with as much poise as Trent Edwards. He has the pocket presence and ability to read defenses that you usually only find in old veteran QBs. Without Edwards completing 80% of his passes, we don't come within 7 points of Jacksonville.

Still, there were a number of troubling issues for the Bills in this game...

...our complete inability to open holes in the running will catch up to us sooner rather than later. I just cannot fathom how an offensive line can be so solid in its pass protection and yet fail to create any space for its runningbacks.

...our front four on the defensive line failed to get any pressure on the Garrard even though Jacksonville was starting two reserve players (one of their guards was out of the league last Sunday). If we could not dominate the line of scrimmage against Jacksonville's front four, then who will have an advantage over (aside from the Seahawks)?

...our linebackers were consistently a step slow in defending both the run and pass. Mitchell seemed to have missed 5 tackles alone and I do not even recall ever seeing Ellison on the field. An opposing offense that is adept at using the middle of the field in the passing game will really have its way against our linebackers.

Actually, I think the play stays alive and the forward lateral is considered a penalty. In the event of a turnover, the defense can elect to decline the penalty and take possession.

Wow, everything about this game was so un-Bills like. Losing the momentum and the lead in the 3rd qtr on the road against a decent team has translated into a guaranteed loss for so long. If they don't fold, the defense always gives up the game-winning score. Instead they forced a 3&out after re-gaining the lead with 4 minutes left.

- Youboty came up big - tackled better than anyone on our front 7.

- The 2nd down playfake QB keeper almost made my stab my eyes out. Huge/clutch kick by Lindell at the end to make it a non-factor.

- Good to see Hardy make a play for the exact reason we drafted him.

- Fantasy #'s be damned, it's pretty tough not to like Trent.

The protection being vastly superior to the run-blocking has been the case for a while now. I didn't think that was as much of an issue today to the extent that there were more holes than last week and in the preseason; plus they went to a lot of spread/shotgun. Defensively the biggest issue was tackling imo. We made Garrard look like Earl Campbell a couple times and Fred Taylor also broke some 4 yard runs where he was hit in the backfield. I agree it would've been nice to see our DL dominate against backups and they didn't, but I wouldn't say we were necessarily beaten in the trenches.

TACKLING DEFINITELY. They wouldn't have converted a lot of the first downs had our guys wrapped the guy up the first time.
