Game Thread W3 - Oakland V Buffalo (1 Viewer)

We are still in the 3rd quarter and it's only a single-digit lead for the Raiders, but this game is done. The Raiders are controlling both lines of scrimmage and the Bills keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Marshawn Lynch is a beast!!! 3rd and 5... takes a dump off 3 yards behind the LOS and runs for a 1st down.

I just wanted to check in and apologize to Raider fans. I suggested BUF would rout OAK and I could not have been more wrong. Congrats!

It'd be nice if the Buffalo playcalling would be a little more urgent right now. All of these screen and short passes down two scores in the 4th quarter is a little stupid. Especially since they're not completing all that high of a percentage of them anyway. The Broncos destroyed the Raiders by going downfield constantly on Hall. Why aren't the Bills getting Evans or Parrish matched up on Hall and going after him?

And here I thought Hardy would be a good spot start. Still no sightings at all today? No targets at all?
Until he learns to run routes, he's probably only going to be in at the goaline. And since Buffalo can't even get into the red zone, Hardy won't see many targets.

The offensive execution by the Bills today is reminiscent their offenses from prior seasons. We can't even get the play in on 3rd down.

OL is sucking so there's not a ton of time to throw, bogus offensive PI call the one time they do go downfield, etc.

It's surprising to see the Raiders lay off the blitzes here in the second half. They were very effective with the blitz in the first half.

Nice. Lynch has definitely been the Buffalo MVP so far this season. His YPC doesn't reflect it, but he has made something out of nothing so many times. That offensive line needs to figure out how to run block because it's been ridiculous so far.

Now the defense needs to get a stop.

Agreed, GB the old no huddle of the 90's.

Great throw by Edwards on the TD. Still need a miracle. Would have liked a little more urgency still on that drive. Not sure why they weren't throwing deep like that all game.

WOW! Bills should NOT have won that game. Have to have serious concerns about a team that needs a last second FG to beat the Raiders, but they kept trying to give the game away but the Raiders just didn't capitalize on that enough.

So Buffalo officially is #1 in the AFC East right now. :towelwave:

Lawl at the raiders practically gift wrapping this for the Bills. Guess I gave them too much credit to hold on to win. NJ Bills

Wow. Ballgame.
If this game were a wrestling match, the Bills would lose via a sleeper hold.
no faith in these guys? GREAT WIN today. Takes a special type of team to win games like this. Love what Edwards and Lynch were able to do today.

I'm all excited because of this win, so maybe I'm being over-exuberant, but we have not had a team since the Marv Levy era that could pull this game out of their hat. Kelly & Co used to do this all the time (play down to your opponent's level for 3 quarters, and then suddenly turn it on in the 4th). I don't think there's a Bills team in the past 10 years that wins this game. Combine this one with the win in Jacksonville last week, and I'm having trouble containing my expectations from here on out.

I'm a guy that thought that Losman wasn't given a fair shake. But no way would the Bills have won today with him under center. Edwards just seems to have "it." By the end of the season, he's going to start getting talk about being one of the young up and coming QBs in the league. The Bills have a fairly easy schedule this year so they should have time to grow while still being able to put up wins. Guys need to start holding onto the ball though. Way too many fumbles in that game. And that offensive line still needs to block better, especially in the running game. Sad that I think they were actually a better run blocking team in Week 1 without Peters than they have been since he came back. Luckily for the Bills, Lynch is just an absolute monster that can turn negatives into positive plays.

I'll admit I didn't have any faith and they played like crap for 34 minutes, but hell, saying the Bills didn't deserve it is a little strong. I mean they were supposed to win handily and they didn't - that doesn't mean they were the inferior team on the field. 100 more yards of offense, a couple BS calls, a rare Lindell miss - it's the sort of game NE always pulled out of the hat prior to last year when they were blowing everyone out. And of course Trent was $. No apologies needed imo.

Trent was awesome. Rob Ryan is running the simplest defense in the league and should go bye bye.I really think Kiffin didn't call timeouts to seal the deal on getting fired.

Heh, maybe Kiffin will run the wishbone at Syracuse? Not a bad idea given the QB's we've recruited post-McNabb.

Also, Dan Fouts for a HOF QB seems clueless on clock management. Down by 2 with the ball at midfield with 2:15 left: "They need to hurry up and run another play here before the 2min warning".....Really Dan? Why?

:own3d:Ya, we made the plays at the end, but it was really the Raiders that gave that one away particularly down the stretch. Why on earth did Kiffin not go for 2 on their last touchdown? How come the Raiders did not use any of their time outs at the end to preserve some time? Not to mention that we lost the turnover battle (-2) and all of the other self-inflicted mistakes in all three phases of the game.I echo the thoughts about Edwards just having "it". The guy has the poise and intelligence of a 10-year veteran. It might not be saying a lot, but I have not had this kind of faith (or any faith) in our quarterback since Jim Kelly. And I'm not trying to sound like a homer, but I would rather have Edwards over any other quarterback in the league except for Brady or P. Manning.

Do you think the Raiders even let Kiffin get on the team plane back to Oakland or do they make him pay his own way on a commercial flight?

If they are going to blame it on him, he should refuse to get on the plane.Ryan played the worst kind of prevent defense, and D. Hall gives more cushion than any CB in the league. The offense scored enough to win. Then they rushed 3 defenders for the 2nd half. Bills played great in the 2nd half, but the Raiders helped them plenty.

Yeah, it seemed like the ball was rolling around on the carpet after every other play up until the 4th quarter. I think Lee Evans should petition the league to have the film of this game burned. This was kind of a fluky game, though. A bunch of uncharacteristic fumbles. Several drops by receivers. Stupid penalties at bad times. Missed blocks on pass protection. I just don't think our players took this game seriously at first.

Look, I'm not going to argue that the Bills win this game against a decent team, but:A) There is not a coach in the league (not even Shannahan) goes for 2 when up by 8 with 6 minutes left.B) While I agree that Oak should've taken their time outs on defense, they only had 2 left on a 1st&10 from the 24 with 1:11 left. Even if they use them as they should have, they have less than 30 seconds left. It was dumb for Oakland not to give themselves a chance at a kickoff return or whatever, but it likely did not make the difference in the game.
