Game Thread W5 - Kansas City V Arizona (1 Viewer)

3 straight rushes from Dee Brown inside the 5. Way to go for the jugular Herm..
Thank you.I don't know what's worse, Martyball or Hermieball.
Why would you pass in that situation? Keep running the ball, let the time tick and kick a chip shot.
:goodposting: Finally a voice of reason.

Why the hell would Herm throw the ball in that situation? Especially considering Damon Huard would be the guy throwing the ball.

Herm was correct and the scoreboard proves it.
Don't you at least try a fade pass in that situation?

Do whatever gives you the best chance to score a TD. Your best skill position players in this situation are pass catchers.I would have no problem with running three straight times with better personnel (LJ). With your best weapon out, you have to improvise somehow.
A few less than risky passes he could have used to score the TD.

Keep in mind that if they would have thrown the ball and not scored, the Cardinals would have had even more time to drive down the field...That 51-yard FG attempt might have been much shorter if the Cardinals were even left with 10-15 seconds more.

Good grief man, I kinda feel bad for Dee Brown. The dude sits on the sidelines forever, behind arguably the best runningback in the NFL. Sitting and waiting for his chance. Going to all the meetings, doing all the practice drills, working out, etc. When he finally gets the call, in a Cinderella situation from the 5 yard line to win the game................he looks like crap and fumbles.
:lmao: I never feel sorry for NFL players sitting on the bench. I think they have one of the greatest jobs in the world. They get paid to stay in shape and study football. Look at the bright side, he gets his gig back, being a bench warmer.

This just shows how Herm's conservative play just kills a team. He had an opportunity to knock em down and force the team to go for a TD.... instead... tries to run the clock and settle for a FG. Good thing Rackers isn't accustomed to clutch situations, so he couldn't hit his normal 50 yarder. I feel for the Chief fans.
You are way too hard on the guy. He ran down the clock and kicked a FG, leaving Leinart with well under 2 minutes to drive down to the other 30-35. There was no chance they'd drive down and score a TD, so it was basically a gamble to see if they could stop Leinart to the 35. Had they gone for it and got stuffed with Dancing Dee Brown a 4th time, they might well have lost the game by the strongest-legged kicker in the league.Christ, take a win when you get one.... the Chiefs were playing with a backup QB and a backup RB... and you expect them to go for it on 4th and goal with a tie game? Get real....

Not 4th and goal- no- never in that situation. Talking less than risky on 3rd down.

Let's see. 3:30 left. The opposing team has an explosive passing game. Your starting RB is in the locker room with a broken neck. Dee Brown is terrible. Everyone knows what's coming because you're name is Herm Edwards. Dee Brown chokes on his second carry by fumbling. The opposing team's kicker is the best in the league. You don't want to go into overtime with Damon Huard and Dee Brown. You just don't. You're on the road. And we all know what to do when you're on the road. You go for the win. You go for the jugular.

There is 2 minutes left in the game. Tie score. Why on earth would you pass. Incompletion stops the clock. What if Leinart had another 30 seconds at the end of that game?

 Then what happened out there? Unless the scoreboard is wrong it looks like the Chiefs ran the ball three times, kicked the FG and won.Herm pushed the right buttons and KC won.End of story.

Uh, they went for the win. They kicked a field goal with under 2 minutes left.

Herm was correct and the scoreboard proves it.
Damon Huard has thrown 5 TD's to 0 INT's in three starts with a 110+ passer rating. If nothing else, the guy makes good decisions. I'd much rather put the ball in his hands than someone with zero experience who just coughed it up on the goalline. But that's just me..

So you'd rather have a career back-up throw the ball around instead of playing it safe and taking the sure FG?You'd make a great NFL head coach - I think the Raiders are hiring if you really want to pursue it.

Just so we're clear, the only play I'm referring to is HB dive on 3rd and 2. When you're that close, and 30 seconds is really the only thing at stake, you've got a TE who runs the best "fade" and "jump ball" routes in the NFL, and Dee Brown is clearly choking under the pressure, you have to take that shot. Your logic is sound if the Chiefs are on the 25. They weren't. They were inside the 5.It's a bit ironic that you call yourself "Onions", because you clearly don't have any.

THE CARDS SUCK!! I can't believe I spend my Sundays at that damn stadium, and I spent my money on those damn tickets. :bag: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

Can't believe you think the Chiefs shoudl throw the ball there. :loco:
Yes, I have a problem with three consecutive goaline runs by Dee Brown. Just because he didn't fumble again and just because Rackers didn't convert the field goal doesn't mean that is was a good decision.

Do I take my shot with Dee Brown or do I take my shot with Tony Gonzalez? I pick Gonzalez.I hold no grudge with those that would have chosen the safe route in that situation. It worked out this time. They got the win. If Rackers had any stones, that game goes to OT. Maybe Herm knew that Rackers aint a pressure guy  If so, then brilliant!

Entertaining game...as a KC fan it was an entertaining thread!

KC won the game and as a KC fan, I will take a road win no matter how ugly it is. Some SB teams made a habit of winning ugly. As a jaded homer, I was resigned to a beating down 14-0....but look at these points. KC won despite:

1. being down 14-0 on the road.

2. Playing a backup QB.

3. Playing without their starting LT or his best backup.

4. Overcoming a head coach's conservative nature.

Herm called the end of the game perfect. Your defense had held AZ to 2 FGs since the first 5 min. of the game. You play to win it with your PK and your DEF. He did the right thing there. But, until the 4th QTR he didn't throw the ball DOWN THE FIELD. He went "dink and dunk, dink and dunk, run into the line, dink and dunk, etc.".

Herm underestimates Damon Huard. The guy has proved he can make every throw in this offense given time in the pocket. Unleash him. Having Trent around has helped immensely I think.

I don't know if its Herm or OC Mike Solari. I was just listening to some coverage and apparently, Huard came off the field screaming @ QB Coach Terry Shea after one series in the 3rd. Shea has the direct line to Solari upstairs. That makes me think Solari is mostly @ fault.

if that is the case, then Solari needs to get the heck out of dodge and let Green or Huard call their own plays.

I think all road games are going to be like that...at least until Green gets back and shows he's back. And maybe even beyond. Herm simply doesn't want to get into shootouts on the road, or risk turnovers. Can't really fault him for it, I've seen those types of things kill the Chiefs over the past few years.

I agree. If **** Vermeil were still HC, I think we would have lost being down 14 so early. DV's team's had no emotional or mental toughness.
