Gradkowski throwing well

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer

Sunday, October 10th, 2010 at 11:44 am in Oakland Raiders.

I wouldn’t ordinarily file an update on a simple pregame warmup by the starting quarterback, but there was part of me that was wondering this week about Bruce Gradkowski.

Gradkowski was listed as limited this week and coach Tom Cable said there was no question he would play. In media availability periods, however, Gradkowski did little more than loft wobblers at half-speed or play the spectator.

So perhaps the Raiders were guarding a secret, and Jason Campbell would be today’s surprise starter?

Chalk it up to an active imagination, or perhaps healthy skepticism, but Gradkowski appeared to be having little trouble on the field before the game making the requisite throws with awkward twists and turns.

But with an exisiting bruise to the A-C joint of his right shoulder, Gradkowski might want to rethink challenging Shaun Phillips today the way he did Bernard Pollard last week against Houston.

Spectacular weather at the Coliseum today. Perfect. At first glance, parking lot much more full than a week ago and the anemic 32,000-plus attendance. Could be 45,000 or so.

Chargers-Raiders inactives

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer

Sunday, October 10th, 2010 at 12:33 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Designated as inactive for the Raiders today are RB Darren McFadden (hamstring), CB Walter McFadden (hamstring), RB Michael Bennett (hamstring), LB Travis Goethel (lower back), G Robert Gallery (hamstring), DT John Henderson (stress fracture) and WR Chaz Schilens (WR).

The Raiders have so many inactives that No. 3 quarterback Kyle Boller is active if they choose to get real creative, and that LB Quentin Groves, also injured with a hamstring pull, is techinically active although not expected to play.

Daniel Loper will start at left guard for Gallery, Matt Shaughnessy will start at DE in place of Trevor Scott, and Scott will play at OLB for Groves.

Inactive for San Diego are SS Darrell Stuckey, CB Fred Bennett, S Tyrone Carter, LB Larry English, ILB Brandon Siler, G Louis Vasquez and DE-DT Vaughn Martin.

Mike Tolbert will start at running back for San Diego in place of Ryan Mathews and Antwan Applewhite starts for Shawne Merriman, who is active.

Nnamdi, playing middle of field breaks up pass to Buster Davis. Raiders block punt out of end zone for a safety. Rock Cartwright is there. Untouched. 2-0 Raiders.

3 wides, Murphy in slot right, incomplete pass to left, poor timing between Gradkowski and JLH. JLH turns way late. Never had a chance. Seabass to attempt 50-yard FG

It's GOOOD!!

Chargers D is finally clicking this year and the #%#### special teams has to go and #### it up!! It's always something with the chargers.. :kicksrock:

Seabass forces touchback again. 9 yard sdeep in the end zone. Guess you could say Raiders special teams are ready to play today. FG, 2 punt blocks, a TD, 2 touchbacks

Rivers finds Darren Sproles uncovered, flag on the play, big yardage to the 49 _ 29 yards. Chargers flinch on line. Now it[s third-and-15. Thats a 34-yard difference. Raiders rolling

Third-and-15, Rivers to Malcom Floyd back shoulder throw down sideline. Nnamdi tight coverage. Floyd makes terrific catch. Asomugha called for PI. Declined. Gave up reception anyway. San Diego never has been afraid of going after Asomugha. They're back at the 49.

Tolbert tries to get free to left, gets hit hard by Trevor Scott for 2-yard loss. Scott wasn't kidding Friday when he said he'd be ``everywhere.''

Third-and-8, Sproles again open on left for first down, vs. McClain. that's a mismatch in favor of Chargers. Asomugha called for defnsive holding, declined. Another third-down conversion for Chargers 11-yard gain.

Tolbert gets good yardage to the left, breaking tackles. First SD run play that's gotten anything. He gains 9 yards. Raiders need to make a play. Tolbert is looking real solid.

Jacob Hester carries up the middle for apparent first down, penalty flag, defensive offsides, penalty gives Chargers first down. Seymour the culprit. First-and-10 at Raiders 25

Playfake, Rivers to Chris Wilson back to left, Beautifully conceived play. They get 16 yards before Huff rides him to turf. Raiders are clueless defensively on that play.
