Game Thread W7 - New England V San Diego (1 Viewer)

So why didn't they call their TO's at the end?
I'm not sure which team you're asking about. The Patriots didn't have any time outs left. The Chargers didn't want to give the Patriots any additional time after the field goal.
After the FG attempt. They still had two left.Chances they will win without taking TO's. 0%Chances that Brady fumbles the snap with two more chances. .0001%One of those two options gives you a chance to win.

Wonder if that kick was good from 5 yards in
Did you see the game? The kick was wide right the whole way and hooked left at the end. If it were kicked from 5 yards in it would have missed even worse. If anything, it probably would have been good if they were 5 yards further BACK.

Who deserved to lose more?

San Diego for the two brain fart turnovers, the out of bounds kickoff, and the final false start penalty?

Or New England, for doing nothing with the first half turnovers and letting San Diego back into the game?

Lost in all this is another crucial drop by Patrick Crayton in a crucial situation. If he catches that 1st down pass then they're in much easier FG range, and with a fresh set of downs to work with. I hate that guy.

Odds of Kris Brown making a 45-yard field goal in his first game with his new team <<<<<<<<<<<< Odds of San Diego's offense picking up 2 yards

I hated that call there. The Chargers offense hadn't been stopped the entire quarter, basically had their way with the Pats down the stretch. Then they get a chance to keep the drive going and eventually go for 7, and they settle for the low percentage 3 pointer. It's not like it was a 35 yard gimme FG!

I am not sure why people are surprised about Coach Bill Belichick going for that 4th down conversion. He makes that call time and time again (see the Colts game last year). It does not always work out, but I believe that being aggressive in that situation, going for the 1 yard that ends the game, is clearly the smart thing to do, particularly against a potent offense that had all the momentum in the 4th quarter.

If you get the conversion, you win.

If you do not get the conversion, there are still several ways you can win. Stopping the Chargers completely, holding them to a FG and winning in overtime, a missed field goal, a turnover, etc.

I wish more NFL coaches would stay aggressive like Coach Bill Belichick does.

I think going for it was the right call, but the Chargers still had 3 TOs left, so simply getting the conversion wouldn't have guaranteed a win. NE would still have needed 1 more 1st down to ice it.

The drop by Crayton on 1st down was a big, big play.

In retrospect, I wonder if the play wasn't to go no huddle on 4th down, and even if the Bolts don't get it, they've still got 3 TOs left to stop the Pats.

Just felt really weird to be letting the clock run down for a 45 yard FG attempt knowing you had 3 TOs left. It was probably the right play, but just didn't feel right.

Nice road win for the Pats...there are some real positives happening this year but the pass-rush is their achilles heel and it will give an opening to a big time QB like Rivers to make some plays.

Turner deserves to take some heat here.

A 45 yarder is not a chip shot. Dont run down the clock and a call a TO. Kick it soemwhat quickly. If he misses, you get the ball back with 40 seconds w/ big leg kicker assuming a NE 3 and out. If he makes, then defend Brady who had no timeouts left; NE would have probably run ot the clock.
