Game Thread W9 - Detroit V Seattle (1 Viewer)

And that's why you're Detroit.

4th and 1, Seattle lines up to try and draw them offsides. Hasselbeck says "hut" about 40 times, Detroit never jumps, now it's pretty clear they were just trying to draw them offsides. Then with 1 second left on the playclock one of the Detroit players finally does jump.

:)

FG good. Still half a quarter to go, but I wonder if they shouldn't have gone for the TD.

Also not a fan of the 3rd down play -- quick throw to Fitzsimmons that would've been a yard short even if he had caught the ball.

Also also, I'm starting to think that Calvin must be seeing triple coverage on the plays where I don't see (the ball thrown near) him.

Stafford's noodle arm huh? The guy has one of the strongest arm's in the league. Now if you wanna say his incredibly inaccurate arm, then i'm with you. Calvin has played the entire game as far as I can tell and he hasn't done jack. They don't even give him a chance to make a play at all. It's like if the Cardinals just didn't throw it to Fitzgerald at all. It's embarrassing. Keep throwing one yard screens to backup TE's guys, its working wonders.

Dude, Casey Fitzsimmons makes plays. I don't know what league you're used to watching but he's a dynamic talent. If you ever need a one yard and down he goes play, he's your man.

Well, they tried to get the ball to Calvin... incomplete, then Stafford's 4th INT. Seattle only had 3 picks coming into the game.

This just shows how terrible the entire Lions organization is, didn't Crap decision Stafford get the job because of his "Chemistry" with Calvin Johnson?

Drew Stanton can get the ball to him better, this is just completely awful. I feel bad for Lions fans as this team has talent but just wastes it.

As a Dolphins fan I would love to have someone of Calvin's talent, and you know darn well that Sporano and Henning would get the ball to him iwth all kinds of formations and trick plays.

:bye: Make that 11 throws to Fitzsimmons. This is unreal, funny, and sad all at the same time.

Ok stafford is horrible. Who was that going to?

I mean he hit that DB in stride.

:bye: Calvin went inside and the clown threw it short and outside (where B. Johnson was running).

5th pick is pick 6. Lions are who we thought they were. Grats Seahawks fans -- hope you weren't actually ever worried there.

That's the second time this game Stafford has thrown an out when Calvin wasn't running an out and it's resulted in a pick. Wonder who's on the wrong page here.

He is just not accurate at all. He is CONSTANTLY throwing behind his WR's. Maybe he will improve with time, but I know that was an issue at Georgia too, so I'm not so sure. It's incredibly frustrating watching him play. I know he's young and will get better, but man, he makes some bad throws.

Bring back Drew Stanton and Dan Orlovsky or whoever played QB last year!!!! Give us Culpepper!!!!!!!!!

That kids accuracy sucks and is terrible, what good is an arm if can't even hit the farm that has the barn with the broad side on it?

Bring back Scott Mitchell! Almost all the INTs were long passes where he couldn't find the WR. Sad thing is the Lions had this game if Stafford is relatively smart with the ball past the 1st quarter. I'll give Detroit... oh, let's drop it to a 1 in 3 chance of beating Cleveland at home. Otherwise, if they can't "shock" the Seahawks, Lions fans (endangered species as they are) might as well plan/hope for 2010.

If you think Drew Stanton is better than Stafford, you really need to give up football.

Maybe he is talking from a financial point of view because Stafford is not showing he is even close to the $ they paid him.

Yup halfway through his rookie season it's clear he blows.

Here's a gem I remember reading on CBS a few days ago where Megatron was talking about them being on the same page:

News: Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) was a limited participant in practice for the second straight Thursday. Johnson remains a game-time decision. Coach Jim Schwartz said Johnson wasn't doing more work than Wednesday but added the quality of his reps has improved. Johnson said despite missing some time recently, the chemistry between he and rookie QB Matt Stafford hasn't been disrupted. "It's still there," Johnson said. "The kid has a heck of an arm and we have good chemistry."
That chemistry really showed on the field today.

In reference chemistry with Calvin, yeah, bring back Stanton. If your franchise QB can't find a way to get the ball to a freak of nature that is the tallest, fastest and highest jumping player on the field, then yeah, Detroit - we have a problem!d

No matter that he is double and triple teamed on most plays. Of course.

He was all last year, he's a freak of nature!!! Look at his height compared to the corners and safety's let alone his leaping ability and skill at tracking the ball. Yes you get your stud the ball.In high school I would throw into 3 or 4 guys covering my buddy because I knew he had a better chance of coming down with the ball and he always did. Give Calvin a chance, he did it all last year without the team they have this year!Detroit is clearly better but they could be actually winning more if they can get him involved. As far as the money for Stafford is concerned, who cares? I'm just talking chemistry with Calvin since that's what Schwartz said was his reason for making Stafford his QB. Clearly either Schwartz is blind, stupid or someone flunked chemistry 101.....

Or perhaps CJ is still not recovered from his knee injury.

He might be but he was clearly open on a ton of plays and Stafford couldn't get him the ball. Calvin's second reception was an awful pass thrown way behind him and in the ground, he made a great catch! That had nothing to do with his knee but was poorly thrown as a lot of the passes were. Again, he got the job because of his chemistry with Calvin, yet he has no chemistry with Calvin, not just today but pretty much all season.

I thought it was fairly obvious that Stafford didn't have the normal zip on his passes. Might have been residual effect from his knee as well.

He's a rookie, just missed a month with a significant injury and he plays on a team that went 0-16 last year. Who do you expect the guy to be? Joe Montana?

It's scary to think what a QB like Brees or Rivers (who are fantastic at putting the ball in a good spot for their WR to make a play on it) would do with Calvin.

Exactly and again the point everyone keeps overlooking is he has the job due to his chemistry with Calvin, I ask again, what chemistry?d

Relax on the chemistry thing. You're a Calvin owner or fan, and so am I, and we want what's best for our boy (haha) but Stafford is young. He's gonna suck for a while and he's gonna show flashes while doing it. It's frustrating for sure, and i share your frustrations, but the only way Stafford is going to get better is by playing. So by thinking that Drew Stanton would be better, you're out of your mind. Stafford will get the ball to Calvin. I was mad today because they simply were not throwing it to him at all. He had 6 targets but 4 of them were not close, and everyone knows the only way the guy is going to produce is if they put him in a chance to do so, and the game plan today was incredibly poorly designed.
