Garrett to Ravens? (1 Viewer)

Crayton doesnt suck. The guy had a bad game. It happens. He is a young player.

Everyone who has coached Crayton has lauded him over and over again mainly about his work ethic and his great hands. The guy had a bad game.
He just finished his fourth year. Why does it take all the Cowboy players so long to develop.

Guys...can we keep this ship on course?

Local station WNST reporting Garrett about to leave the complex WITHOUT a contract...he'll be interviewed shortly, is likely headed to Atlanta, who he is to meet with today
I doubt he would take the Atlanta job. That is a huge mess. They need a veteran coach who can right the ship. I have always been of the opinion that a team that is awful like this has to start on the defensive side of the ball and then build the offense. The Baltimore job is a great job, for any coach, young or old. The Atlanta job is a no win for a young coach in my opinion.
just to clarify my comment--I meant he was on his way to Atlanta from Baltimore, to interview....in no way did I mean to infer I felt he would be taking the mess that is the HC position in Atlanta instead of accepting one here
Earlier it was reported that he was offered a contract and wasn't going to Atlanta. Does this supersede that?

He was _reportedly_ offered the job, but he did not immediately accept and appears to have continued to Atlanta to interview.

Comcast Sports in Baltimore just reported that Garrett and the Ravens were $2 million/year apart on salary this morning, that he spent 7 hours with them talking, that they were $500K/yr apart when they concluded talking and he left for Atlanta. Garrett said they were still going through the process and no decision had been made.

He's not taking the Atlanta job. It's a smart ploy to get the Ravens to up the ante though by showing there's more than one job in town. Atlanta is desparate and are probably willing to pay whatever only to be left at the alter again.

Garrett turned down Ravens?

Note that, I think the title on this article is VERY misleading.

When Jason Garrett didn't accept the Baltimore Ravens' head coaching offer and left team headquarters Tuesday, the Dallas offensive coordinator likely opened the door for Philadelphia Eagles secondary coach John Harbaugh, a league source told the Baltimore Sun.

While the Ravens are still making a run at Garrett and are continuing to negotiate with him, the team understands that landing its top candidate might have become more difficult because he is being pursued by the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons.

According to the source, the Ravens are ready to hire Harbaugh as head coach over the next couple of days if Garrett is unavailable. Harbaugh, 45, was the only candidate interviewed by the Ravens who was neither a coordinator nor an assistant head coach. He became the Eagles' secondary coach after spending nine seasons as the special teams coach.

I don't think so. I get the feeling that they are going to go with Ryan, and Garrett might be 2nd or 3rd choice behind Caldwell.

The Comcast news just seems off to me. How could they be $2mm apart unless Garrett was asking to be the highest paid coach in the league, or close to it?

I am really starting to believe Garrett is coming back to Dallas. Just makes the most sense to me.

I was wondering that too, but they did report "per year". Maybe the reporter just goofed.

?????? What are you talking about.........Tony Romo was practically a star and is a Pro Bowl quarterback in just his 2nd season.Demarcus Ware was a stud his first preseason game he ever played. Please spend a little time thinking more about the players or the words you use when posting.

Cant see Jerry Jones letting him get away. Garrett is Cowboy through and through right now.

I'm not endorsing Phurfur's question...but just to keep things straight, Tony Romo just finished his 5th NFL season. He was signed by Dallas in 2003 as a UFA.

Two other points, which I hadn't realized until reading up on Garrett...

1) His father was a long-time football coach and scout for the Cowboys

2) Two of Garrett's brothers, John (Dallas) and Judd (St. Louis) are TE coaches in the NFL currently

My buddy down in Baltimore is telling me...

*** Garrett as HC is being hammered out right now

*** John Harbaugh will be offered DC job [whether Philly lets him leave is unknown at this time]

*** OC to be determined, although ownership wants to talk to Cam Cameron
Harbaugh doesn't need Philly's permission, does he? Wouldn't he be receiving a promotion if offered the defensive coordinator position?
Actually he does. NFL teams are allowed to hold their assistants to contract for anything but head coaching vacancies. Now many teams let their players make moves up, but it's at their discretion. A recent example was when Joe Barry wasn't allowed to interview with his father in law in Detroit two seasons ago. Now my understanding is that Reid has no intentions of keeping Harbaugh from leaving for a DC position, but I was just pointing out that the Eagles COULD keep him around if they wanted to play hardball.
And, in fact, Reid last year DID allow Steve Spagnuolo to leave for a DC position -- at a division rival, no less. So he won't block Harbaugh.

Not every assistant is created equally, but I already said that I don't think Reid would stand in Harbaugh's way. To my knowledge, Andy has never stopped any of his assistants from interviewing elsewhere. Ron Rivera was allowed to leave, Leslie Frazier was allowed to leave, Spags was allowed to go to the Giants. I'm sure Harbaugh will be given the green light, too.But Philadelphia allowing Harbaugh to leave is different than saying the team has no say in the matter. They have all the say.

Ya, I meant starting. I shouldn't have been baited into listing players like Ware, Columbo, Canty or Newman who all came in and made an impact right away.

PFT Rumor mill, but I've heard this elsewhere.

WHO'S LEAKING GARRETT INFO?As more and more media reports surface regarding the apparently intense demand for the services of Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, we're starting to hear whispers from league insiders regarding the question of whether the reports regarding the free-for-all are legit. There's talk that the Ravens haven't actually made Garrett an offer to become the team's next head coach, and that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hasn't actually promised to match an financial package that Garrett receives elsewhere.Even if the reports were true, there's a sense in some league circles that neither the Ravens nor the Cowboys (two organizations that typically keep things close to the vest) would have leaked the information. So who's leaking it? Some league insiders suspect that Garrett's agent, David Dunn, is putting out the information in order to drive up the price tag that ultimately is paid for Garrett. If that's true, it could hurt Garrett when he's under consideration for jobs in the future. And it also could prompt the Ravens never to make him an offer (if they haven't already) or to yank their offer (if they have).
