I have to admit, I've been real nervous with the way Rivers is playing. Antonio put up such strong numbers earlier this year, and now they've gone down considerably. Still, most of the "experts" remain highly optimistic:
From ESPN:
Outlook: He's the one thing going right for the Chargers' pass attack this season, even if his past two games have left a lot to be desired for fantasy. On the bright side, the Jaguars have allowed the 10th-most fantasy points to tight ends this year (6.7 ypg).
From Sports Illustrated:
[Antonio Gates]
Antonio Gates
6 rec, 55 yards, 1 TD
Gates is another victim of Rivers' poor play. He's caught only four passes in his last two games and scored in one of his last four games and has been held under 60 yards receiving three times in the last four games. The Chargers need to find more ways to get him the ball and if they have to throw a lot on Sunday he stands a good chance to produce. He's too good to sit and he will bounce back this week.
From CBS Sportsline:
Rushing yards are hard to come by against the Jaguars, so San Diego will likely have to go to the air if they want to score some points. Unfortunately for Gates owners, QB Philip Rivers has been downright awful lately. If he can find his rhythm and start finding his elite TE again, Gates should post No. 1 TE-type stats in Week 11 like he is capable of.
From ProFootballWeekly (the only ones who are more negative than postive):
It’s hard to get too excited about QB Philip Rivers these days. He has been held without a TD pass in three of the last four games and hasn’t crossed the 197-yard mark in four weeks. As a result, defenses are loading up to stop LaDainian Tomlinson, and TE Antonio Gates (four catches for 36 yards) and WRs Vincent Jackson (2-44) and Chris Chambers (7-76) have been rather quiet on the fantasy front.
From Scout.Com:
Play LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates regardless of the situation, but Jax could hold the Bolts to under 2 TDs this week.
The last one makes a good point: obviously all Gates owners will play him this week, and the rest of the year, and hope for the best. Still, if you offered me Winslow for him right now straight up, I'd have to give that strong consideration...
