Gates (1 Viewer)

Antonio Gates, TE SD

News: Chargers All-Pro tight end Antonio Gates missed Wednesday's practice with a sore back but said he expects to return on Thursday. "It tightened up (Wednesday) and we just decided not to see any action today," Gates said. "I'll be back (Thursday)." tomorrow."

Analysis: Gates was busy in Sunday's 14-3 win over Chicago, with nine catches for 107 yards. Among them was a 17-yard touchdown pass from LaDainian Tomlinson. "I took a lot of hits, man," Gates said. "It's a concern because he didn't practice, but I think he's all right," coach Norv Turner said. "It'll be day-to-day. I'd assume he'll be able to do part of practice (Thursday)." The Chargers don't seem too concerned about Gates' injury at this time and neither should Fantasy owners. Keep him active in all Fantasy leagues for Week 2.

Big to do about nothing. Just a sore back... precautionary holdout

It must be bad if he's going to miss a game of this magnitude. One would think this is a week that could have playoff seeding implications.

We went over this in the other Gates thread. he was not designeated as anything other than not practicing today. The info comes straight from the Chargers and there was confusion on reading the columns as they were listed on the site. Gates was not listed as doubtful. The Blogger headline is inaccurate.

part of the relatively new classification system...if he doesn't practice at all = doubtful
Actually, they don't even use the terms probable, questionable and doubtful until Thursday. They just report whether they participated in practice fully, partially or not at all. Some news sources are incorrectly translating those into probable, questionable and doubtful, but that's really not correct.

thanks for the clarification, am i crazy or is that a fairly recent development?

Give him a shot of cortisone, have the chiropractor crack his back, stick needles in his back, he'll be fine.

Should probably change the title--it's misleading.

Plus it gives all of us who spend 3rd round picks on Gates a minor heart attack.

And there's another thread on this same topic.

it says hes doubtful for practice friday. AG does NOT need to practice friday.
No. He's listed as doubtful because he did not practice Wednesday. He does not need to practice Wednesday. He is day to day but they expect him to be at practice Thursday. There is pretty much no chance he misses the game this weekend. I own him in almost all leagues and am not even the slightest bit concerned about this. He just took some shots this weekend vs the Bears and is taking an extra day to rest up. No biggie.

In the past there was a Wed injury report and it was updated on Fri. This year the NFL did away with the Wed report (except for teams playing Thu). So anything before Fridays are not "official" injury reports.

I heard it was a degenerative back condition and now can't walk anymore. Football is over for Gates and my season.........

worst.thread.ever.

Gates was sipping cola beverages in the training room, laughing, while his compadres were out on the field hitting sleds.

Veteran taking an extra day off = doubtful now?

No. He's listed as doubtful because he did not practice Wednesday.
No, he's not listed as doubtful. David Yudkin had it exactly correct earlier in the thread.

Any update?
Yes. The new injury report sucks.
:goodposting: My favorite was Lynch being listed as doubtful after missing practice with an upset stomach.
Marshawn Lynch was not listed as doubtful. He was listed as "Did Not Participate in Practice" on Wednesday. Nobody is listed as doubtful until Friday. It's a new system this year.
You're right....I was going by how MFL translated the NFL injury report for Wed.
